Norwood’s Four Touchdown Passes Lift Farmington Past Heritage

FARMINGTON — Slade Norwood threw four touchdown passes, including two to Anthony Steinbeck, as Farmington defeated Rogers Heritage 28-0 Friday at Cardinal Stadium. The Cardinals improved to 2-0 in their home opener.
Norwood capped Farmington’s first possession with an 11-yard touchdown pass to Cooper Stoltz on third-and-9. Brayden Conran’s extra point made it 7-0.
After forcing a three-and-out, Farmington began its next possession at Heritage’s 38. A two-yard rushing loss preceded Norwood’s 40-yard touchdown pass to Tage Pollard. Heritage blocked the extra point, leaving Farmington ahead 13-0 after one quarter.
The War Eagles stopped Farmington on fourth-and-1 at their 41 early in the second quarter. The Cardinals answered with a fourth-down stop at midfield, then drove for their third touchdown.
Norwood found Steinbeck for a 13-yard score with 7:53 remaining in the half. Brenner Watkins caught Norwood’s two-point conversion pass, extending the lead to 21-0. Farmington carried that margin into halftime.
Heritage’s defense forced a punt on Farmington’s opening possession of the second half. On the ensuing series, sophomore safety Hudson Hammons intercepted a third-down pass, giving the Cardinals possession at their 34.
Farmington converted the takeaway into a 66-yard touchdown drive. Stoltz contributed a 22-yard reception, and Steinbeck caught his second touchdown pass with 1:58 remaining in the third quarter. Conran’s kick made it 28-0.
Heritage advanced inside Farmington’s 15 during the fourth quarter. Quarterback Jack Presley completed a fourth-down pass to move the War Eagles to the 17, and two subsequent runs took them to the 14.
Farmington stopped the next two plays, including a fourth-down quarterback run, to preserve the shutout. Pollard added two consecutive receptions during the final possession, with his first catch producing another Farmington first down. The Cardinals retained possession for the remainder of the game, collecting first downs before finishing in victory formation.
