Perkins, Jackson score twice as Alma defeats Vilonia 28–17

Dallas Perkins rushed for 177 yards and two touchdowns, and Dylan Jackson caught two touchdown passes as Alma defeated Vilonia 28–17 Friday, September 11, at Airedale Stadium. The Airedales improved to 2–1, while the Eagles fell to 1–2.

Perkins carried 27 times, while Jackson finished with six receptions for 86 yards. Jay Lemieux completed 13 of 23 passes for 141 yards. The Airedales scored 14 unanswered points in the third quarter after taking a 14–10 halftime lead.

Vilonia led 3–0 after the first quarter. Perkins put Alma ahead with a 24-yard touchdown run with 11:07 remaining in the second. After Alma stopped Vilonia on fourth down, Lemieux found Jackson for a 69-yard touchdown on third-and-13, extending the lead to 14–3 with 6:21 left.

Cooper Hanson answered by throwing a 22-yard touchdown pass to Jackson Ringgold before halftime. Hanson rolled left and found Ringgold open in the end zone. Luke Robinson’s extra point brought the Eagles within four. Hanson scrambled for 20 yards on third-and-14 during that possession. Vilonia’s Audie Fleming recorded a tackle for loss in the second quarter, and Robert Meyers broke up a deep pass.

Alma extended its lead with two touchdowns in a span of 1:47 late in the third quarter. Perkins scored on a run up the middle with 3:19 remaining. After a high punt snap gave Alma possession at Vilonia’s 11, Lemieux connected with Jackson for another touchdown with 1:32 left. Cade Moore made all four extra points.

Hanson and Ringgold connected again for an 18-yard touchdown with 8:39 remaining, cutting Alma’s lead to 28–17. That drive included Hanson’s fourth-down conversion at midfield and Ringgold’s 17-yard reception on third-and-15.

Alma later sacked Hanson on third down to force a punt. Perkins then converted third-and-one from the Wildcat formation as the Airedales worked down the clock.
