BATESVILLE — After a scoreless first half, Batesville and Wynne turned Pioneer Stadium into a fireworks show, with the Pioneers outlasting the Yellowjackets 36-35 in overtime. Sophomore running back Caleb Murrah took the first snap of OT 10 yards for a touchdown, and senior kicker Jackson Elam added the point to put Batesville ahead 36-29. Wynne answered with senior Christian Wren’s 3‑yard run, but the two‑point pass to win sailed incomplete, sealing a tense 5A East rivalry.

Senior quarterback Cole Bentz (QB/P) jump‑started Batesville’s offense, throwing three TDs—strikes of 75 and 55 yards and a 19‑yarder—and delivering a clutch two‑point pass late in regulation. Murrah added a 4‑yard fourth‑quarter score to cap a three‑TD night (two rushing, one receiving). Daniel Patterson (FB/LB) hauled in two TDs, while Ty Reynolds (WR/OLB) moved the chains on key grabs.

Wynne (Yellowjackets) showed grit behind sophomore Ashton McDaniel (SS) and Wren. McDaniel took snaps at QB, tossing a 12‑yard TD to Chase Havner (MLB/FB) and ripping a 74‑yard go‑ahead sprint with 1:27 left before Batesville’s rally. Junior Braydon Smith (RB/OLB) powered a 5‑yard TD and a two‑point run, and kicker August “Auggie” Smith converted a PAT. Punter Evan McConnell repeatedly flipped the field.
