Prescott combined an efficient offense, disruptive defense and a special-teams touchdown to defeat Hope 46-0 Friday night at Eddie Jackson Field.

The Curley Wolves scored twice in the opening quarter, stretched the advantage to 26-0 by halftime and added three more touchdowns after the break. The final score was 46-0.

Sophomore quarterback Desmond Prater made an impressive season debut directing the Prescott offense. Prater showed his ability to throw from the pocket, extend plays and distribute the football to a talented group of receivers.

Prescott struck first when Prater connected with Owen Glass for a touchdown. Glass got behind the secondary and Prater delivered the ball downfield for the game’s opening score. The extra point was blocked, giving Prescott a 6-0 lead.

The Curley Wolves returned to the end zone later in the first quarter. Kayden Gleason powered his way toward the goal line before finishing the possession with a short touchdown run. Prescott carried a 13-0 advantage into the second quarter.

Prater and the passing game struck again early in the second quarter. Wes Cornelius found space in the Hope secondary and Prater delivered another touchdown pass, increasing Prescott’s advantage to 19-0 after the conversion was unsuccessful.

Prescott’s defense and special teams then supplied one of the defining plays of the night.

Brian Woodley broke through the protection, blocked a Hope punt, recovered the football himself and carried it into the end zone. The touchdown pushed Prescott’s advantage to 26-0 with 7:21 remaining in the first half.

Hope’s defense continued competing throughout the first half behind linebackers Joel Bello and JJ Gulley. Both consistently appeared around the football, with Bello producing tackles around the line of scrimmage and Gulley making several stops in space.

Prescott took its 26-point lead into halftime before immediately moving the football again to begin the third quarter.

Prater connected twice with Glass for explosive gains on Prescott’s first possession of the second half, including completions of approximately 35 and 20 yards. The Curley Wolves eventually finished the possession with a short rushing touchdown and successful PAT to make it 33-0.
Prescott added another rushing touchdown later in the third quarter. A series of productive runs moved the Curley Wolves inside the Hope 5 before another short touchdown and successful extra point increased the margin to 40-0.
Hope put together one of its better offensive possessions late in the third quarter. Jaiden Brown found Austin Courtney for a completion of about 30 yards that moved the Bobcats to the Prescott 17.

The Curley Wolves closed the scoring late in the fourth quarter. After Prescott regained possession, Bryce Block found a crease, cut into the open field and raced approximately 72 yards for a touchdown. The extra point was unsuccessful, establishing the 46-0 final.

Prescott opened the season with production in every phase — explosive passes from Prater, a productive running game, Woodley’s special-teams touchdown and a defense that kept Hope off the scoreboard.

PLAYERS WHO STOOD OUT

Desmond Prater, Prescott, QB

Prater directed Prescott’s offense effectively in his first game of the season. He threw touchdown passes to Owen Glass and Wes Cornelius and repeatedly created opportunities downfield. His connection with Glass was especially productive coming out of halftime.

Owen Glass, Prescott, WR/DB

Glass provided Prescott’s biggest receiving threat. He caught the game’s first touchdown and produced multiple explosive receptions, including gains of approximately 35 and 20 yards on the opening possession of the second half.

Brian Woodley, Prescott, DL/OL

Woodley delivered one of the game’s biggest plays. He penetrated the Hope punt protection, blocked the kick, recovered it himself and scored a touchdown. He also consistently created pressure up front.

Kayden Gleason, Prescott, RB

Gleason ran with good balance and physicality and scored Prescott’s second touchdown. He gave the Curley Wolves dependable production on the ground and helped keep the offense ahead of the chains.

Bryce Block, Prescott

Block supplied the game’s final explosive play, breaking into the open field for an approximately 72-yard fourth-quarter touchdown run that completed the scoring.
