STUTTGART — Cain Price threw 4 touchdown passes in his return at quarterback, and Stuttgart kept Monticello out of the end zone in a 38-3 victory Friday night at Ned Moseley Stadium. The Ricebirds scored the final 35 points after the teams traded first-quarter field goals.

Jordan Minor caught 2 touchdown passes, Tayquan Hall broke a 44-yard scoring run and Stuttgart’s defense repeatedly stopped Monticello in critical situations. The Ricebirds improved to 7-0 overall and 4-0 in 4A-8, while the Billies fell to 3-4 and 2-2.

Parker Ellis opened the scoring with a 27-yard field goal into a strong wind with 9:05 left in the first quarter. Monticello answered with Jude Parke’s field goal at the 3:27 mark, but that was the Billies’ last scoring possession. The teams remained tied at 3 entering the second quarter.

Price took advantage of the wind at his back on Stuttgart’s first offensive play of the second period. He found Ky’marion Wiley behind the defense for a 73-yard touchdown, and Ellis’ extra point made it 10-3 with 11:32 remaining in the half.

Keaton Byers kept the next scoring drive alive with a 29-yard catch-and-run on fourth-and-6. Byers broke tackles and reached the Monticello 10, where Price followed with a touchdown pass to Jay Griffin. Ellis’ kick extended the lead to 17-3 with 6:09 left. Hall had helped move that possession with runs of 13 and 14 yards.

Monticello threatened late in the half, converting fourth-and-5 on a completion to Jaxon Rawls and advancing inside the Stuttgart 15. Byers ended the threat by intercepting Jonah White’s pass in the end zone with 10 seconds remaining. Stuttgart took its 14-point lead into halftime and did not allow Monticello to cut into it.

Antwon Berry stopped Joseph Accelus for a loss on fourth-and-short to end Monticello’s opening possession of the third quarter. Hall scored on the next snap, reversing direction, breaking tackles and sprinting 44 yards. Ellis’ kick pushed the lead to 24-3 with 8:27 left in the period.

Berry delivered another fourth-down stop on Monticello’s next possession, sacking White after pressure forced the quarterback out of the pocket. Stuttgart took over at the Billies’ 37, overcame penalties and gained a first down when Monticello jumped offside on fourth-and-4. Minor then went up over a defender for a 13-yard touchdown catch. Ellis made it 31-3 with 4:27 left in the third.

Kiptyn Carey recovered a fumble later in the quarter. Monticello intercepted a tipped Price pass in the end zone early in the fourth, but Stuttgart’s defense forced a punt. Price and Wiley connected on another deep ball to the Billies’ 23 before Minor caught an 11-yard touchdown pass with 6:47 remaining. Ellis’ fifth extra point started the running clock at 38-3.

Monticello’s final drive reached the Stuttgart 14 before a fumble through the end zone resulted in a touchback, preserving the Ricebirds’ touchdown-free defensive night.
