Schluterman’s Five Touchdown Passes Lead Lamar Past Clinton

CLINTON — Quarterback Karsten Schluterman threw five touchdown passes as Lamar scored 42 consecutive points in a 42-14 victory over Clinton Friday.
The Warriors’ defense recovered five fumbles, including three before halftime, and allowed only one offensive touchdown.
Clinton struck first when Harold McNabb returned a fumble for a touchdown with 8:17 remaining in the opening quarter. Dereck Infante’s extra point gave the Yellow Jackets a 7-0 lead.
Schluterman answered with a 23-yard touchdown pass to Kendrick Carr, who added the tying extra point with 7:02 left.
Hayden Jones recovered a fumble at Lamar’s 41 early in the second quarter. The Warriors regained possession and scored on a 61-yard touchdown pass with 10:05 remaining.
Clinton’s defense later turned away a possession that began at its 14-yard line, forcing an incomplete pass on fourth-and-11.
Lamar recovered another fumble and struck on an 81-yard touchdown pass with 1:50 remaining, taking a 21-7 halftime lead. Both second-quarter touchdowns came on short throws followed by long runs after the catch.
The teams exchanged fourth-down stops early in the third quarter before Schluterman completed a 17-yard touchdown pass on fourth-and-one. Carr’s kick made it 28-7 with 3:31 remaining.
Carr took a shovel pass 60 yards for a touchdown on the opening play of the fourth quarter, extending the lead to 34-7.
Lamar recovered a fumble inside Clinton’s 20, and an 8-yard touchdown run plus a two-point pass made it 42-7 with 10:07 left.
McNabb, who took over at quarterback after Braiden Venable left the game, completed a third-and-10 pass to Cort Alexander on Clinton’s final scoring drive. Keegan Rose added a 16-yard run, and Jones finished with a 6-yard touchdown with 3:33 remaining. Infante added his second extra point.
Lamar retained possession for the remainder of the game and took a knee to improve to 2-0.
