Sexton’s five touchdowns power Quitman past Riverview

Jack Sexton ran for two touchdowns and threw three touchdown passes as Quitman celebrated senior night with a 42-7 victory over Riverview Friday at Bulldog Stadium.

Jaydan Owens caught two of Sexton’s scoring passes, John Waggoner caught the other and Hunter Milam added a third-quarter fumble-return touchdown. Quitman scored 20 first-quarter points and led 35-0 at halftime.

The Bulldogs established their running game on the opening scoring drive. Dylan McThorn converted fourth-and-2 and later carried to the 1. After Riverview stopped another attempt near the goal line, Sexton kept the ball and dived into the end zone. Jackson Boyd’s extra point made it 7-0 with 5:14 remaining in the first quarter.

Waggoner’s catch-and-run helped set up Quitman’s next score. Sexton then broke through the middle on a quarterback draw and raced 49 yards for a touchdown. The unsuccessful kick left the Bulldogs ahead 13-0 with 2:54 remaining.

Quitman struck again before the quarter ended. Sexton found Owens deep downfield, and the receiver ran into the end zone. Boyd’s kick made it 20-0 with 57 seconds left.

The defense provided another opening early in the second quarter, stopping a Riverview quarterback keeper on fourth-and-short. Sexton capitalized immediately, throwing a touchdown pass to Waggoner on the first play of the ensuing possession. Boyd converted the kick for a 27-0 lead with 9:18 left in the half.

Owens added his second touchdown reception later in the quarter, taking a pass to the right, breaking through the defense and finding open field. Quitman ran in the two-point conversion to take a 35-0 advantage into halftime.

Milam supplied the Bulldogs’ final touchdown after Riverview quarterback Hill lost the ball under pressure in the third quarter. Milam recovered the fumble and ran it into the end zone, and Boyd’s kick extended the lead to 42-0 with 7:07 remaining.

Braxton Hobbs answered for Riverview with a touchdown run later in the third quarter. He broke through the middle and reached the outside, and the ensuing extra point established the final score. Neither team scored in the fourth quarter, and Quitman closed with kneel-downs.
