Summers, Shelby lead Bryant past Pulaski Academy

BRYANT — Judah Summers threw three touchdown passes, Kyler Shelby accounted for three more scores and Malik Shipp returned an interception 55 yards for a touchdown as Bryant defeated Pulaski Academy 49-14 Friday night at Hornet Stadium.
The Hornets scored 49 consecutive points after allowing an opening-drive touchdown, improving to 2-4 overall and 2-1 in 7A-Central play. Pulaski Academy fell to 2-4 and 1-2. Chase Slater and Quinton Sykes each caught two touchdown passes as Bryant rebounded from its three-point loss to Little Rock Christian.
Pulaski Academy opened with a 10-play, 80-yard touchdown drive. Caleb Sullivan found Chase Hancock for a third-and-11 conversion, and Myles McDaniel added a fourth-down reception. Hancock then eluded tacklers on a 26-yard touchdown catch. Sullivan kicked the extra point for a 7-0 lead with 9:49 remaining in the first quarter.
Shelby answered with a 44-yard run on Bryant’s first offensive play, but the Bruins stopped him short of the goal line on fourth down. Anthony Ellis supplied the response, intercepting a deep pass to give Bryant another possession. Facing third-and-18, Summers found Dantrell Wilkins behind the defense for an 89-yard touchdown that tied the game with 2:28 left in the quarter.
Kaveion Smith recovered a fumble on Pulaski Academy’s next snap. Shelby lost his helmet on the ensuing play, bringing Summers back into the game. The sophomore immediately threw a touchdown pass to Slater, giving Bryant a 14-7 lead before the quarter ended.
Pulaski Academy’s Collin Neal intercepted a pass in the second quarter, but Ellis recovered a fumble on the Bruins’ ensuing possession. Terriun Jones later intercepted a fourth-and-17 pass, setting up Bryant near midfield. Slater converted fourth-and-four with a reception, and Shelby followed with a 28-yard touchdown pass to Sykes for a 21-7 lead with 4:49 remaining.
Shipp extended the advantage with his 55-yard interception return at the 2:56 mark. Jones intercepted another pass on Pulaski Academy’s next possession. Bryant carried a 28-7 lead into halftime after a 47-yard field-goal attempt fell short.
Smith recovered Pulaski Academy’s onside kick to open the second half. A roughing-the-passer penalty kept Bryant’s possession alive, Slater added a reception inside the red zone and Shelby finished with a seven-yard touchdown run.
Bryant’s defense forced a punt on the next series, and Shipp returned it into Pulaski Academy territory. Summers needed one play to find Slater for a 36-yard touchdown, pushing the lead to 42-7 and bringing on the running clock. After another defensive stop, Abram Pendergrass made an 11-yard catch before Shelby connected with Sykes for a 26-yard touchdown. JD Olson added the extra point for a 49-7 lead.
Pulaski Academy scored again in the fourth quarter. Patrick Landreaux converted fourth-and-10 with an 18-yard run before throwing a touchdown pass to Emerson Phelan. Sullivan supplied the extra point. Bryant’s defense ended the Bruins’ final possession with a fourth-down incompletion near the goal line.
