Jonesboro Westside – Tyler Gahr

Current Position & Year Hired: Co-Head Football Coach at Westside Consolidated High School (Jonesboro Westside). Gahr was officially hired in June 2025 to lead the Warriors, marking his first season as head coach in fall 2025kait8.com kait8.com. He shares the title of co-head coach with another staff member for now (as Westside transitions leadership after Coach Bobby Engle’s departure).
Previous Coaching Experience: Tyler Gahr, 29, is a rising young coach from Northeast Arkansas. A Valley View High School alum, Gahr got his start at his alma mater, helping coach the offensive line as a volunteer after college. In 2021, he joined the staff at Jonesboro High School as the offensive line coach under Coach Randy Coleman and later Tyler Georgefacebook.com facebook.com. He spent two seasons (2022–2023) at Jonesboro, gaining experience in the 7A ranks. When Westside’s longtime coach Bobby Engle resigned after the 2022 season (following 10 years at Westside)facebook.com, Gahr was identified as a candidate but initially remained at Jonesboro. In 2025, Westside hired him to take over a struggling program (Engle’s replacement had a short tenure). This is Coach Gahr’s first head coaching role. (He also has a wrestling coaching background, having assisted with Jonesboro’s wrestling program.)
High School & College: Gahr graduated from Valley View High School (Jonesboro) in 2012, where he was an All-Conference lineman for the Blazers. He went on to play college football at Ouachita Baptist University, lettering as an offensive guard. He earned his bachelor’s degree in education from OBU in 2017.
Playing Background: At Valley View, Tyler Gahr was a three-year starter on the offensive line and helped the Blazers reach the state semifinals in 2011. In college at Ouachita Baptist, he was a part of two Great American Conference championship teams. His playing days instilled in him a love for the trenches and an understanding of fundamental line play that he now brings to his coaching style.
Head Coaching Record: 0–0 (Entering first season in 2025). Gahr has yet to coach a game as head coach. Westside is coming off a 1–9 campaign in 2024 under interim leadership, so Coach Gahr’s immediate goal is to notch his first win and snap Westside’s multi-year playoff drought. Notable Accomplishments: Though new to head coaching, Gahr is already being lauded for his high-energy approach. In summer 2025, he implemented a modern “power spread” offense and held multiple padded team camps where Westside’s performance “looked really good” by his assessmentkait8.com. He has focused on improving the Warriors’ discipline and conditioning, areas in which he’s seen marked progress compared to last yearkait8.com. Gahr is one of the youngest head coaches in Arkansas, and Westside administration is optimistic he can turn around a program that hasn’t had a winning season in nearly a decade. During his time at Jonesboro, he was part of two semifinalist teams (2022, 7A; 2023, 6A) and learned under veteran coaches.
Personal/Community Notes: Tyler Gahr is a Jonesboro native who feels at home in the Westside community. He and his wife welcomed their first child in 2024, and the family has settled in the Westside district. Gahr is active in his church and often cites his faith as a guiding factor in his coaching. As a Valley View grad coaching a rival school (Westside), he jokes that the rivalry will be “all love until Friday nights.” Gahr also serves as a high school social studies teacher. In interviews, he expressed gratitude for mentors like Jonesboro’s staff and Valley View’s Coach Shannon Sherman for grooming him for this opportunity. The Westside community has embraced Coach Gahr’s youthful enthusiasm, and he in turn has embraced the Warriors’ tradition – even bringing back some alumni to speak to the team about pride and perseverance.
