Miles Leads Searcy’s Fast Start in Road Win at Batesville

BATESVILLE — Jacob Miles accounted for four touchdowns as Searcy turned a fast start into a 54-13 season-opening victory over Batesville on Friday at Pioneer Stadium.
Batesville struck first after moving inside the Searcy 10-yard line on its opening possession. Kicker Tristan Prado made a field goal for a 3-0 lead with 7:03 remaining in the first quarter.
The Lions answered quickly. Miles threw touchdown passes to wide receivers Jackson Smith and Will Manning, and Micah Linderman converted both extra points to give Searcy a 14-3 advantage by the end of the opening period.
Searcy widened the margin early in the second quarter when defensive ends Jeremiah Goodman and Bryson Allen brought down Batesville quarterback Michael Cheatham in the end zone for a safety. Running back Deandre Shockley followed with the first of his two rushing touchdowns.
Prado added another field goal for Batesville before Linderman closed the half with a field goal, sending the Lions to halftime ahead 26-6.
Searcy took control with 28 points in the third quarter. Miles scored on a quarterback keeper before connecting with Bryson Thompson for his third touchdown pass. Shockley added another scoring run, and Allen finished the quarter with a touchdown keeper after Searcy recovered a kickoff near the goal line.
Batesville continued competing in the fourth quarter. Caleb Murrah broke a long run during the Pioneers’ final scoring drive, and Savion Kelly capped it with a touchdown run. Prado added the extra point.
Miles finished with three touchdown passes and one rushing score, while five Searcy players reached the end zone.
