Perkins’ four touchdowns help Alma pull away from Russellville

Dallas Perkins rushed for 253 yards and four touchdowns, and Jay Lemieux threw four touchdown passes as Alma defeated Russellville 56-35 Friday at Cyclone Stadium.

Perkins finished Alma’s opening 80-yard drive with a 2-yard touchdown. Russellville answered with Samuel Calahan’s 5-yard scoring run before Lemieux connected with Quinton Broadway for an 80-yard touchdown. Calahan’s 2-yard run on fourth-and-goal tied it 14-14.

Lemieux found Dylan Jackson for a 56-yard touchdown in the second quarter, and Perkins added a 3-yard score for a 28-14 lead. Russellville quarterback Talen Hindsman hit Marcellus Olson on a 51-yard touchdown screen, cutting Alma’s halftime advantage to 28-21. Olson finished with six catches for 114 yards.

Hindsman’s 58-yard touchdown run tied it 28-28 early in the third quarter. Alma answered with three consecutive touchdowns: Lemieux’s 20-yard pass to tight end Josiah Stallings, Perkins’ 4-yard run and Jackson’s 35-yard reception.

Alma recovered a squib kickoff to set up Perkins’ third touchdown. Brooks Belcher’s interception led to Jackson’s second scoring catch on the next play, extending the lead to 49-28.

Hindsman found Parker Jackson for a 22-yard touchdown on fourth-and-goal with 7:01 remaining. Jesus Perez then recovered his own onside kick, but Alma forced a punt.

Perkins capped an 85-yard drive with a 10-yard touchdown with 51 seconds left.

Calahan rushed for 152 yards and two touchdowns. Dylan Jackson caught five passes for 137 yards and two scores. Lemieux completed nine of 19 passes for 286 yards, while Hindsman rushed for 94 yards and accounted for three Russellville touchdowns.
