Garden’s Three Touchdowns Lead Fayetteville Past West Memphis

WEST MEMPHIS — Running back Terrence Garden rushed for 123 yards and three touchdowns on six carries as Fayetteville defeated West Memphis 45-0 Friday, Sept. 4.
The Blue Devils’ defense kept Fayetteville off the scoreboard throughout the opening quarter. The Purple Bulldogs then scored 24 points in the second quarter to take a 24-0 halftime lead.
Quarterback Aron Orgil completed 10 of 16 passes for 235 yards and two touchdowns. Receiver Sage Anderson caught four passes for 116 yards and a touchdown, while Javian Stricklin added two receptions for 83 yards and another score. Stricklin’s longest reception covered 55 yards; Anderson’s longest gained 46.
Garden averaged 20.5 yards per carry, with a long run of 67 yards. He also caught a 26-yard pass, finishing with 149 yards from scrimmage.
Fayetteville added 14 points in the third quarter to extend its lead to 38-0, then scored seven more in the fourth. The Purple Bulldogs finished with 403 yards of offense, including 268 passing and 135 rushing.
Quarterback Remington Thomas completed all five of his passes for 33 yards and a touchdown. Receiver Ryder Phillips scored on his only reception, an 8-yard catch. Kicker Ethan Farthing made a 25-yard field goal and all six extra points.
Defensive lineman Kayden Walters recorded three tackles and two sacks. Fayetteville finished with four sacks in the shutout.
Fayetteville improved to 1-1, while West Memphis moved to 0-2. Both teams return to nonconference play Sept. 11, with Fayetteville hosting Sylvan Hills and West Memphis welcoming Wynne.
