No. 3 Bismarck (1-1) at No. 4 GLEN ROSE (1-1): The Lions beat the Panthers 48-21 last season, and Glen Rose did not lose again until its third game of the playoffs against Booneville. Expect this matchup to be closer with junior quarterback Gage Hood having a season of experience. Glen Rose has done well against Class 4A rivals Bauxite and DeWitt. Junior Cayden Burch is one of the best play-makers in 3A and will be the counterpunch to Hood. This could go down to the wire with the Beavers getting the edge at home.

1-3A
No. 1 MANSFIELD (1-1) at Talihina, Okla. (1-0): The Tigers got back on track last week with a 17-point win over Class 4A Mena. Expect another shootout as Talihina has a dynamic quarterback in senior Landen Griffith. Mansfield should be at full strength and gets a close win in a shootout.
Class 4A OZARK (2-0) at No. 9 Charleston (0-2): Charleston has won 4 of the past 7 Franklin County Feuds and 19 of 38 meetings since 1969 (ties in 1970 and 2004). Charleston got beat up by Booneville 2 weeks ago and did not have a few starters in last week’s loss. The Hillbillies roll in this one behind new Harding commit Easton Fox and John Skolarski.
Class 4A LINCOLN (1-1) at West Fork (1-1): Lincoln has won 4 consecutive in the series, including the past 2 seasons by a combined 93-32. The Wolves have too much offense for West Fork, and they roll.
Paris (1-1) at Class 4A LAMAR (2-0): These teams were in the same conference from 2004-2019, with Lamar holding a 9-7 advantage. Lamar thumped Clinton last week, and that stingy defense will hold Paris in check.
Yellville-Summit (0-1) at GREENLAND (1-1): The Pirates return to their weight class after splitting games against a couple 1-4A teams. Sophomore EJ Johnson has 270 yards and 4 touchdowns and will be the bell cow in this matchup. The Panthers have had 2 weeks to get ready after a 27-point loss to Class 2A Hector. They’ll need a big game from their defense, led by Westin Swearingen’s 17 tackles in the loss to Hector. Greenland’s rushing attack is the difference.
Class 4A Subiaco Academy (0-2) at LAVACA (1-1): These teams last played in 2018-2019, with Subiaco Academy winning both of the games by a combined 35 points. The Golden Arrows have playmakers on offense that will be too much for Subiaco. Senior quarterback Dalton Mullenix will be the difference-maker in this one.
Class 2A Hackett (0-2) at CEDARVILLE (2-0): The Pirates have taken care of business with easy wins over Two Rivers and Mountainburg. Hackett will put up a little more fight this week, but the Pirates are too good up front and have too much offense for Hackett.
2-3A
No. 19 SALEM (0-2) at Hoxie (0-2): The Greyhounds have scored a combined 6 points in losses to Pocahontas and Greene County Tech. They should rebound this week against winless Hoxie, which has scored 14 points in its losses. Salem’s Veer offense gets on track this week against Hoxie.
Class 4A BOONEVILLE (2-0) at No. 10 Newport (1-1): The 3 previous meetings between these teams came in the playoffs, with Booneville winning twice (41-20 in 2012 and 35-7 in 2010; and Newport winning 38-18 in 2002). The Greyhounds struggled last week against Batesville; Booneville outslugged Pea Ridge for another close win. Booneville gets the edge in a close game as its running game wears down Newport in the fourth quarter.
Class 4A GREEN FOREST (1-0) at Mountain View (1-0): Mountain View has won 4 in a row over Green Forest, but they haven’t met since the Yellowjackets’ 28-20 decision in 2017.
Conway Christian (0-2) at No. 18 QUITMAN (2-0): The Bulldogs escaped with a 2-point win over Class 2A Bigelow in overtime last week and need their offense to keep rolling. Jack Sexton and Dylan McThorn have each scored 3 touchdowns to lead the Bulldogs’ rushing attack, and they’ll be too much for the Eagles this week. Conway Christian played better in last week’s loss to Hector, but the defense couldn’t get the stops when needed.
Yellville-Summit (0-1) at GREENLAND (1-1): See notes in 1-3A
Class 2A CLARENDON (1-1) at Riverview (0-2): The Lions can move the ball in their spread attack, hanging with Carlisle last week until the Bisons pulled away late. Riverview is at home, but Clarendon has the edge on offense.
Class 2A No. 7 HAZEN (1-0) at Marshall (0-1): The Hornets got a 28-14 win over Des Arc last week in Clay Totty’s debut as head coach. This game was rescheduled from Week 0 because of a virus in Searcy County. High-riding Hazen has too much offense for the Bobcats.

No. 8 Walnut Ridge (2-0) at Class 4A SOUTHSIDE (1-1): Southside struggled with Jacksonville’s speed last week; Walnut Ridge dispatched Class 4A Trumann. This game could go back and forth early on with Southside getting the edge late.
No. 6 RIVERCREST (1-0) at Class 4A Paragould (1-0): The Colts scored 66 points in their opening win over Melbourne with Jayden Ralph passing for 150 yards and 3 scores; junior running back Lathan Bolden rushed for 157 yards and 3 touchdowns as the Colts rushed for more than 300 yards.
No. 13 Osceola (1-1) at Class 4A GOSNELL (2-0): Gosnell has won 3 of its past 4 meetings over Osceola, including 63-24 a year ago. Credit to the Seminoles for punching above their weight class in nonconference play, but the Pirates’ depth and talent at the skill positions will be too much for Osceola. Gosnell’s Chris Smith is one of the top coaches in the state no one is talking much about.
Harrisburg (1-1) at Class 4A TRUMANN (1-1): Trumann has won 5 in a row over Harrisburg by an average of 25 points. This one could be closer, but the Trojans still get the nod.
Class 4A BOONEVILLE (2-0) at No. 10 Newport (1-1): The 3 previous meetings between these teams were in the playoffs, with Booneville winning twice (41-20 in 2012 and 35-7 in 2010; and Newport winning 38-18 in 2002). The Greyhounds struggled against Batesville last week, and Booneville outslugged Pea Ridge for another close win. The Bearcats wear down Newport in the fourth quarter with their running game.

Class 4A Jonesboro Westside (2-0) at No. 20 PALESTINE-WHEATLEY (2-0): Palestine-Wheatley defeated Westside by 39 points last fall. Palestine-Wheatley’s defense has been stellar in wins over Des Arc and Cross County. It will be the difference-maker this week.
Piggott (0-2) at Class 2A MARIANNA (0-2): Piggott played tough for a bit last week against Class 2A Episcopal. If they can hang on to the football, they could have a shot at the road win, but Marianna prevails at home.

CUTTER MORNING STAR (0-2) at Class 2A East Poinsett County (1-1): The Eagles went toe-to-toe with Fountain Lake 2 weeks ago, with quarterback Jacob Smith passing for more than 300 yards. Cutter struggled against CAC last week. Smith and the offense get back on track this week at EPC, and the first team to 40 points could decide the game.
Jessieville (0-2) at Class 2A No. 1 MOUNT IDA (2-0): Mount Ida won 28-21 last year. Jessieville struggled defensively against Mineral Springs and Magnet Cove.
DANVILLE (2-0) at Hector (2-0): The Little Johns slipped past Murfreesboro last week and will need a better defensive effort against the Wildcats, who are averaging 39.5 points per game. Junior Jake Crane is averaging 12.9 yards per carry rushing and has 3 touchdowns. Danville wins a close one.
Perryville (1-1) at Class 2A No. 4 BIGELOW (1-1): Both teams have faced Quitman, and while you should rarely compare scores, Perryville lost 35-7 while Bigelow lost 43-40 in overtime. The Mustangs need a big game from Tanner Frith if they want to beat their rival once again. The Panthers are playing well and are tough at home.
Conway Christian (0-2) at No. 18 QUITMAN: See 2-3A for comments.
Class 2A MOUNTAINBURG (0-2) at Two Rivers (0-1): The Gators were off last week and face a hungry Dragons squad looking for their first win. Mountainburg took West Fork to the limit in Week 0 and will be more than Two Rivers can handle.

Class 2A No. 19 Hampton (0-2) at HARMONY GROVE OUACHITA COUNTY (0-2): The Hornets’ offense is yet to score, and HGOC needs a win after blowout losses to Rison and Junction City, and the defense is giving up 40 points per game. Hampton lost a close one to Parkers Chapel in Week 0 and will push the Hornets, but HGOC breaks into the win column at home.
Horatio (0-2) at Class 2A FOREMAN (0-2): The Lions are in a tough spot right now as a program and lost to the Gators 33-14 last season. Foreman has the edge in this one and gets the win.
Cossatot River (0-1) at Class 4A WALDRON (2-0): The Bulldogs are a surprising 2-0 team this season and should not have any problems getting to 3-0 against the Eagles. Cossatot has had 2weeks to prepare for this one, but it won’t make much of a difference.

Class 4A Watson Chapel (0-2) at No. 2 FORDYCE (0-1): The Redbugs have had two weeks to get over their opening-week loss to Monticello. They have the firepower to mercy-rule the once-proud program that is Watson Chapel.
D’arbonne Woods, La. (1-0) at No. 17 MCGEHEE (0-1): The Owls struggled in a 36-8 loss to Smackover 2 weeks ago. They will have a chance in this matchup but the opponent from Louisiana has an explosive offense and will be too much for the Owls.
Dumas (0-2) at Class 4A CROSSETT (1-0): Crossett has won 5 consecutive and 10 of the past 11 over its former conference rival, and the Bobcats lost to the worst team in the 8-4A last week in Star City. No offense to Dumas, but Crossett is the better team, and the Bobcats have yet to get their defense in check this season.
Class 2A No. 6 Earle (0-1) at LAKE VILLAGE (2-0): The Beavers continue their tour through Class 2A with a game against the Bulldogs, and senior running back Arlando Wilson Jr. should feast on Earle’s defense. Wilson is averaging 143.5 rushing yards per game and 11.5 yards per carry. Lake Village moves to 3-0 behind their rushing attack.
Class 4A DeWitt (0-2) at No. 11 HELENA (2-0): Another matchup of former conference foes. Helena broke a 5-year losing streak last fall, beating the Dragons by 16 points. The Dragons have struggled against Rison and Glen Rose in the running game, and Helena presents similar problems. DeWitt played better in a close loss to Glen Rose, but Helena has the edge athletically and is at home.
