No. 4 BAUXITE (2-0) at No. 5 Arkadelphia (1-1): These teams have played conference games 12 of the past 14 years, with Arkadelphia winning all those meetings. Bauxite has averaged less than 9 points per game when playing the Badgers during that span. But the undefeated Miners have handled Glen Rose and Monticello the past 2 games by a combined 87-47. Bauxite’s defense forced 6 turnovers in last week’s 41-14 win at Monticello, and the special teams executed an onside kick and blocked a punt. Sophomore QB Wyatt Foreman passed for 116 yards and 4 touchdowns and ran for 94 yards, with junior Gunnar Morris catching 2 TDs. Emery Moore returned an interception for a TD and made 6 tackles, while senior linebacker Elijah Perry had 6 tackles, including 1 sack. Arkadelphia bounced back from an opening loss to Camden Fairview by beating Hot Springs 28-7 a week ago. QB Turner Ross passed for 166 yards and 2 TDs, while Caiden Whitaker ran for 116 yards and 1 TD. Senior LB Mario Brownlee paced the defense with 11 tackles, Anthony Hill (4 tackles, 1 sack) and Jayden McKenzie (3 tackles, 1 blocked punt) made big plays.

LAST WEEK

Hootens.com correctly predicted 31 of 39 games (79 percent), and for the season has picked 64 of 75 games (85 percent).

Prairie Grove (0-2) at Class 5A FARMINGTON (1-1): These teams have played every season since the modern playoff era began in 1969, with Farmington holding a 33-24 advantage, and the Cardinals have won 5 consecutive in the series, including last 28-27 last season. Farmington QB Slade Norwood threw 4 TD passes in last week’s 28-0 win over Class 7A Rogers Heritage. Prairie Grove trailed Tahlequah (Sequoyah) Okla., 29-18 in the fourth quarter last week before losing 42-19. QB Noah Bowling passed for 214 yards and 3 TDs, but the Tigers defense allowed 271 yards rushing.

Class 5A Clarksville (0-2) at GENTRY (2-0): Gentry has outscored Paris and Jay, Okla., by a combined 85-0 this season. Gentry RB Atreyu Banks ran for 86 yards and 2 TDs in last week’s 38-0 win at Jay,  junior Ethan Meyers had 1 TD run, and Titus Cable caught a TD pass. Steven Cung (4 tackles) led the defense.

BERRYVILLE (1-0) at Dover (1-1): Berryville beat Hollister, Mo., 2 weeks ago 40-24. Senior QB CT Hicks passed for 168 yards and 3 TDs and ran for 85 yards and another TD;  senior MLB Josh Arechiga (7 tackles) led the defense. Dover lost to Atkins last week 64-28. Junior Zeke Brown ran for 87 yards and 2 TDs, and senior Jacob Roberson ran for 1 TD.

MAYFLOWER (2-0) at Huntsville (0-2): Mayflower beat Hope 21-0 last week as senior QB Carter Smith passed for 187 yards, and junior Chris Blackmon ran for 120 yards and 1 TD. Huntsville has lost its opening 2 games to Lamar and Ozark by a combined 87-0.

GREEN FOREST (1-0) at Class 3A Mountain View (0-2): Mountain View has won 4 in a row over Green Forest, but these programs haven’t met since the Yellowjackets’ 28-20 decision in 2017. Green Forest’s defense yielded 8 points in last week’s 33-point victory over Greenland. Senior Jace Meador (13 tackles) led the defense; Hay Moo (138 rushing, 2 TDs) sparked the offense.

LINCOLN (1-1) at Class 3A West Fork (1-1): Lincoln has won 4 consecutive in the series, including the past 2 seasons by a combined 93-32. Lincoln senior QB Korbin Price (269 passing, 3 TDs; 1 rushing TD) led Lincoln in last week’s 36-8 win over Westville, Okla.

No. 13 Lonoke (1-1) at Class 5A No. 6 LR PARKVIEW (1-1): LR Parkview led North LR 17-14 in the third quarter last week, but lost 41-27. QB Elijah Moody ran for 276 yards and 2 TDs. Lonoke beat Class 5A Harding Academy 33-14 a week ago. Senior D’Mareon Eason totaled 203 yards and 3 TDs, and senior Ryder Ingle led the Jackrabbits defense with 16 tackles. Senior OLB Sammy Lara (13 tackles), DE Huck Waddell (8 tackles, 1 forced fumble) and CB Porter McPherson (interception return for a TD) came up big for Lonoke’s defense.

Class 5A DARDANELLE (1-1) at Heber Springs (1-1): Both teams looking to bounce back after close losses last week (Dardanelle by 14 at Elkins and Heber Springs by 1 at Highland). Dardanelle’s Jayvon Chaten (117 rushing, TD; 3-51 receiving, TD) and CJ Cursh (180 total yards, 6 tackles) led the way.  Heber Springs lost a shootout at Highland, 50-49, with Panthers QB Spencer Sugg passing for a school-record 404 yards and 2 TDs, and rushing for 2 TDs; WR Josiah Riggs (7-141-1 TD) and Tanner Graham (3-137-1 TD) were the top targets. Graham gave the Panthers the lead with a 91-yard TD catch with 90 seconds left, before Highland drove for the winning score. Titus Bullington (15 tackles) and Owen Norton (9 tackles) paced Heber Springs’ defense.

MALVERN (0-2) at HG Haskell (0-1): HG Haskell has beaten Malvern once in 6 tries (30-7 in first meeting in 2018). The Leopards mustered 86 yards in last week’s 44-0 loss at top-ranked Stuttgart. Senior LB Jeremiah Jimerson posted 11 tackles. HG Haskell lost at Class 3A Bismarck last week by 35 points. Versatile junior Ace Garcia ran for 112 yards, and QB Jackston Estes passed for 201 yards and 2 TDs.

No. 20 CAC (1-0) at Mena (1-1): CAC beat Cutter Morning Star 41-8 last week, behind junior QB Jackson Plumlee (120 yards, 3 TDs rushing; 150 yards, 2 TDs passing). Andrew Lowe led the defense with 7 tackles. Mena lost to Class 3A No. 1 Mansfield last week by 17 points, and the Bearcats are allowing 50 points per game. Mena’s Hank Rose ran for 135 yards and 2 TDs against Mansfield; Chance Hughes ran for 97 yards, 2 TDs and returned a fumble for another TD.

BALD KNOB (2-0) at Class 2A McCrory (0-1): These neighbors meet for the first time since 1995, when Bald Knob won 31-27. McCrory managed a safety in last week’s 26-2 loss to Class 3A Lake Village. Bald Knob beat Riverview 44-12 last week for its first 2-0 start since 2020. The Bulldogs haven’t started 3-0 since 2016, when they won their first 11 games.

Class 3A Osceola (1-1) at GOSNELL (2-0): Gosnell has won 3 of its past 4 meetings over Osceola, including 63-24 a year ago. Osceola beat Blytheville 35-0 last week, while Gosnell handled Nettleton 47-26. RB Mason Woods ran for 3 TDs, and QB Jamar Allen totaled 3 TDs (2 rushing, 1 passing).

Class 3A Walnut Ridge (2-0) at No. 7 SOUTHSIDE (1-1): This is the Hootens.com Class 3A Game of the Week. Walnut Ridge handled Trumann by 32 points last week, and Southside lost at Class 5A Jacksonville by 28 points on Thursday. Carson McSpadden tallied 2 TDs (1 passing, 1 rushing); Gentry Shirley-Hoskins had 12 tackles. The Southerners’ running attack could prove the difference. “Walnut Ridge has speed in all the skill positions,” Southside Coach Kenny Simpson says. “We have to match how physical they play, and we have to play assignment football on defense.”

No. 14 Highland (1-0) at Class 5A GREENE COUNTY TECH (2-0): These teams haven’t played since Highland’s 12-point win in 2013. Highland outlasted Heber Springs 50-49 a week ago. QB Austin Christy (312 passing, 3 TDs; 1 rushing TD), Jaxon Tribble (154 rushing yards, 1 TD contributed. Jimmy Jensen (9-154-3 TDs), Greyson Barnes (6-77) and Hayden Hyslip (4-41) were the top receivers. GCT has beaten Salem and Beebe by a combined 71-13, and the Eagles will try to control the clock and run the ball to power by Highland.

Class 5A Brookland (0-1) at POCAHONTAS (1-1): These teams have split the past 4 meetings, with Pocahontas winning 26-21 last season. Brookland lost to Southside by 12 points in the opener and didn’t play last week;  Pocahontas bounced back from an opening loss at Thayer, Mo., to beat Salem 35-8. Pocahontas RB Xayver Ballard (190 rushing, 5 TDs) and LB Lane Thielemier (8 tackles) led the way.

Class 5A NETTLETON (0-2) at Blytheville (0-1): Blytheville has won 12 of the 22 meetings since 2004, including 22-20 last season. Both teams are searching for their first victory this fall, after Nettleton’s 21-point loss at Gosnell and Blytheville’s 35-point setback to Osceola. Chickasaws LB Xavion Liddell (11 tackles, 1 forced fumble) and S Trevyon Orr (10 tackles) led the defense.

Class 3A Harrisburg (1-1) at TRUMANN (0-1): Trumann has won 5 consecutive over Harrisburg by an average of 25 points. Trumann junior QB/LB Kylan Eskridge led the Wildcats in rushing, scored the only TD, and was the second-leading tackler in last week’s 35-8 loss to Walnut Ridge. Sophomore LB Carlos Morales led Trumann in tackles; junior lineman Mason Jones played well.

Jonesboro Westside (2-0) at Class 3A PALESTINE-WHEATLEY (2-0): The Patriots celebrate Homecoming against Jonesboro Westside, a team they defeated by 39 points last fall. This one should be much tighter. Jonesboro Westside handled Hoxie last week by 16 points, while Palestine-Wheatley pummeled Class 2A Cross County by 44 points. Jonesboro Westside ran for 245 yards. Kason Carter (9-104-2 TDs), Mason Woods (5-56) and Drew Woods (7-32) were the top rushers. Carter also kicked a 35-yard field goal and made 2 extra points.

No. 9 OZARK (2-0) at Class 3A Charleston (0-2): Charleston has won 4 of the past 7 Franklin County Feuds and 19 of the 38 meetings since 1969 (tied twice, in 1970 and 2004). Charleston couldn’t slow Pottsville’s Dead T rushing attack last week, and may struggle to slow Ozark’s balanced offense (353 yards passing, 244 yards rushing in last week’s 60-0 win at Huntsville). The Hillbillies held Huntsville to 39 total yards.

 No. 10 BOONEVILLE (2-0) at Class 3A Newport (1-1): The 3 previous meetings between these teams were in the playoffs, with Booneville winning twice (41-20 in 2012 and 35-7 in 2010; and Newport won 38-18 in 2002). Newport lost to Class 5A Batesville 16-13 in overtime last week; Booneville rallied from a 9-point fourth-quarter deficit to beat Class 5A Pea Ridge 38-35. Brody Chambers ran for 258 yards and 3 Booneville TDs, and QB Tayden Washburn threw the winning 24-yard TD pass to Devon Ritchie, who also ran for 119 yards.

Class 3A Paris (1-1) at LAMAR (2-0): These teams were in the same conference from 2004-2019, with Lamar holding a 9-7 advantage during that span. Lamar has beaten Huntsville and Clinton the past 2 weeks.

Class 3A Cossatot River (0-1) at WALDRON (2-0): First-year program Cossatot River lost its inaugural game at Danville by 50 points 2 weeks ago. Waldron is 2-0 for the first time since 2020, when the Bulldogs started 3-0. Waldron ran for 435 yards in last week’s 57-0 win over West Fork. Austin Hudson (3-101-2 TDs), Phister Brown (3-88-1 TD), Jaxson Brown (6-66-1 TD) were the top rushers, while Kolby Gonzalez led the defense with 8 tackles.

Subiaco Academy (0-1) at Class 3A LAVACA (1-1): These teams met in 2018-2019, with Subiaco Academy winning both games by a combined 35 points. Subiaco Academy QB Ian Kennedy played well in last week’s 49-20 loss to Perryville. Lavaca beat Hackett 54-26 last week.

Class 5A Arkansas High (0-1) at No. 3 NASHVILLE (2-0): These programs haven’t played in the modern era (but played every season from 1939-1952). Nashville has beaten Bismarck (49-25) and Magnolia (50-28) the past 2 weeks. Sophomore RB Jakhari Starr ran for 264 yards and 3 TDs, and junior Jacoby Hopson ran for 63 yards and 2 TDs, and caught 2 passes for 68 yards and 1 TD. Sophomore linebacker Bo Dean returned a fumble 64 yards for a TD. Arkansas High lost its opener last week to Atlanta, Texas 28-21.

Hope (0-2) at Class 5A DE QUEEN (0-1): These teams were members of the 5A South from 2012-2025. Hope hasn’t scored this season and lost to Mayflower last week 21-0. “Defensively, we’ve played well enough to win. But offensively, we are struggling up front,” Hope Coach Phillip Turner says. Bobcat linebackers J’Kari Gulley (13 tackles), Joel Bello (11 tackles) and Cayden Haywood (7 tackles) continue to lead the defense. De Queen put up 49 points in an overtime loss to Mena 2 weeks ago.

Class 2A Gurdon (2-0) at No. 12 FOUNTAIN LAKE (2-0): These teams haven’t played since 1984, when Fountain Lake notched a 3-point decision. Cobras senior QB Cooper Buss passed for 385 yards and 2 TDs, and ran for 2 TDs, in last week’s 50-15 win over Warren. Peyton Harwood (12-199 receiving, TD) returned the opening kickoff 84 yards for a score, and Kase Haire (11-150 receiving, TD) returned an interception 48 yards for another TD. Undefeated Gurdon has beaten Magnet Cove and Hampton by a combined 74-24.

 FOUKE (2-0) at Class 2A Dierks (2-0): Fouke has won 3 past 3 meetings, including last fall 41-14. Dierks hasn’t allowed a point this season, beating Class 3A Hackett and Horatio the past 2 weeks by a combined 68-0.

 CLASS 2A Murfreesboro (0-2) at GENOA CENTRAL (2-0): Murfreesboro has beaten Genoa Central the past 2 years by a combined 80-18, but the Dragons are undefeated this fall. Murfreesboro has lost to Class 3A Centerpoint and Danville by a total of 9 points.

No. 1 STUTTGART (2-0) at Class 5A White Hall (0-2): These are former conference foes but they haven’t played since Stuttgart’s 39-10 victory in 2011. 

Class 6A SHERIDAN (2-0) at No. 15 Warren (1-1): These teams haven’t played since the Hootens.com Kickoff Classic in 2007, when Warren won 48-14. Warren has won 7 of the past 9 in the series. Sheridan’s last win over the Lumberjacks was 14-10 in 1987, which was Sheridan’s last conference championship.

 No. 11 Monticello (1-1) at Class 5A MILLS (1-0): These teams were conference foes from 2002-2011, with Monticello winning 7 of those 10 matchups. Monticello lost to Bauxite last week by 27 points. Senior Joseph Accelus ran for 111 yards, while LB Ed Ramos posted 6 tackles. Mills impressed 2 weeks ago with its 30-14 victory at Osceola. Mills’ QB Kenny Gilcrest, Jr., a transfer from Helena, passed for 206 yards and 2 TDs.

 Class 5A CAMDEN FAIRVIEW (1-1) at No. 16 Hamburg (2-0): Camden Fairview has won 9 of the past 10 meetings. The Cardinals lost at Class 6A El Dorado last week 22-6. Hamburg has road victories this fall at Dumas and White Hall by a combined 85-35. Senior QB Kaeden Thomas passed for 180 yards and 3 TDs and ran for 129 yards and 3 TDs in last week’s 49-13 victory over White Hall; Charles Mooney caught 5 passes for 128 yards and 3 TDs.

 Class 3A Dumas (0-2) at CROSSETT (1-0): Crossett has won 5 consecutive and 10 of the past 11 over its former conference rival. The Eagles changed their schedule last week (took the week off to accommodate Lake Village and will play that game on Sept. 18). Two weeks ago, they beat Drew Central 33-18. Senior QB Cash Forrest passed for 268 yards and 3 TDs and ran for 141 yards and 2 TDs in the victory, while LB JT Barnett had 15 tackles. Dumas junior Kentz Brown has rushed for 200 yards this fall, while sophomore QB Torlando Dunlap has thrown 5 TDs.

 DeWitt (0-2) at Class 3A HELENA (2-0): Another matchup of former conference foes. Helena broke a 5-year losing streak to DeWitt last fall with a 16-point victory. DeWitt lost to Glen Rose last week 30-28. Receiver Ray Frye (5-118-1 TD), Marshawn Bowers (75-yard kickoff return for a TD) and Landyn Graham (2 TDs) led the Dragons offense; Cam Mitchell, X Cox and Cane Fisher were bright spots on defense. Helena has defeated Class 6A Little Rock Southwest and Earle the past 2 weeks.

 STAR CITY (1-0) at Class 3A Drew Central (0-1): Star City finally played last week (opener vs. Barton was canceled less than 48 hours before kickoff), snapping a 16-game losing streak with a 56-48 win over Dumas. Junior RB Jamarian Spencer (15-166-1 TD), slotback Ky Griffith (8-121-1 TD) and RB Parker Winn (5-61-1 TD) led the offense, along with junior lineman Adam Sullivan (92 percent blocking grade, 8 champion blocks). Sophomore LBs Fernando Palmerin (12 tackles, 1 interception return for a TD) and Konner Wells (6 tackles, 1 fumble recovery) were keys for Star City’s defense. Drew Central fumbled 3 times (lost 1) and tallied 233 yards in a loss to Crossett 2 weeks ago.

Watson Chapel (0-2) at Class 3A FORDYCE (0-1): Watson Chapel has lost 12 consecutive games, including last week to cross-town rival Pine Bluff 52-6. Free safety Dillion Kent (8 tackles, 3 pass breakups) played well for the Wildcats. Fordyce led Monticello 6-0 at halftime 2 weeks ago before losing 28-20.
