Wright’s Three Touchdowns Lead Corning Past Abundant Life, 36-0

Eli Wright rushed for three touchdowns and Nate Jansen scored twice as Corning defeated Abundant Life 36-0 Friday in Jacksonville. The Bobcats improved to 3-0, scoring all five touchdowns on the ground.
Jansen opened the scoring with 8:00 left in the first quarter. Jaggar George extended that possession by finding Kenden McCollum for a first down on third-and-31. George was stopped on the two-point attempt, leaving Corning ahead 6-0.
Jackson Jett returned Abundant Life’s punt to the Owls’ 32-yard line. Jansen carried twice on the next possession, scoring on the second run. His two-point conversion pushed the lead to 14-0 with 4:42 remaining.
Jacob Brown recorded a solo sack and joined Ty Price and Wright on another sack during the opening quarter. Rex Shourd blocked a punt, although Abundant Life recovered after Corning touched the ball.
Wright converted a fourth-and-short on Corning’s first touchdown drive of the second quarter, then scored from seven yards out with 5:05 left. He added the two-point conversion for a 22-0 lead.
After Abundant Life threw incomplete on fourth-and-one, Corning took over at the Owls’ 47. Jansen gained five yards before Wright took a direct snap and scored from 42 yards. Wright’s conversion made it 30-0 at halftime.
Abundant Life reached Corning’s 5-yard line on its opening possession of the second half, aided by 45 yards in penalties. Shourd recovered a fumbled snap to end the threat.
Wright scored his third touchdown on a short run with 4:32 left in the third quarter. The conversion failed, leaving the score 36-0.
Shourd and Lane Lucas combined for a seven-yard loss on Abundant Life’s next possession. Mox Jordan added a fourth-quarter sack, and Thomas Herring sacked the quarterback on the final play. Wright finished with 22 points; Jansen scored 14. Neither team scored during the fourth quarter.
