October 9 2026
ATKINS — Ethan Linboom threw three touchdown passes, including strikes of 99 and 96 yards, and Atkins scored the final 21 points to defeat Glen Rose 47-21 Friday in a meeting of teams unbeaten in 4-3A play.
Bre’lan Criswell scored twice on the ground and once through the air as the Red Devils earned their fifth consecutive victory. Atkins improved to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in conference play; Glen Rose slipped to 3-3 and 2-1 despite three rushing touchdowns by quarterback Gage Hood.
Atkins scored on its opening possession when Linboom faked a handoff and found Cooper Goodall across the middle for a 17-yard touchdown with 8:47 left in the first quarter. Mike Guerro kicked the extra point for a 7-0 lead that held through the quarter.
Hood brought Glen Rose even with a 33-yard keeper at the 10:43 mark of the second quarter, followed by a successful PAT. The Beavers threatened again, but Braxton Coffman knocked the ball loose from Hood and Tate Sweeden recovered. Criswell immediately turned the takeaway into a 46-yard touchdown run with 6:33 remaining. Goodall was stopped on the two-point attempt, leaving Atkins ahead 13-7.
Backed up at its own 1, Atkins needed just one play to extend the advantage. Linboom threw left to Noah Metcalf, who broke free for a 99-yard touchdown with three minutes left before halftime. The kick made it 20-7. On Glen Rose’s next possession, pressure from Goodall sent the ball into the air, and Mason Vick collected it and returned it approximately 27 yards for a defensive touchdown with 1:52 remaining. The extra point missed.
Glen Rose answered before intermission. Hood scored on a 5-yard run with 41 seconds left, and the PAT trimmed the deficit to 26-14. Neither team scored in the third quarter, when the Beavers controlled possession and held Atkins to one offensive series.
The pressure intensified early in the fourth. After a fourth-down completion and a roughing-the-passer penalty moved Glen Rose to the Atkins 12, Hood kept the ball and scored from there with 11:31 remaining. The extra point pulled the Beavers within 26-21.
Atkins responded with a five-play, 70-yard drive. Criswell finished it with his second rushing touchdown at the 9:28 mark, and Guerro restored a 12-point lead. Lincoln Taylor then intercepted a deep pass, giving the Red Devils another chance to capitalize. Facing third-and-long from his own 4, Linboom rolled right and threw back left to Criswell, who raced away for a 96-yard touchdown. Guerro’s PAT made it 40-21.
Daeton Adame stopped the next Glen Rose possession with a fourth-down sack. Coffman supplied the final touchdown, breaking tackles on a 55-yard keeper on fourth-and-18 with 2:03 left. Guerro added the extra point to complete the scoring.
Atkins visits Conway Christian next Friday, Oct. 16, while Glen Rose returns home to face Two Rivers.
