Price throws five touchdown passes as Stuttgart rolls past Star City

STUTTGART — Cain Price threw five first-half touchdown passes as Stuttgart (9-0, 6-0) rolled past Star City (3-6, 1-5) 49-14 on Friday, Oct. 30.

Price found four different receivers for scores before halftime, including two touchdown connections with Bray Minor. Cordaro Berry scored on a reception and a run as the Ricebirds built a 42-0 halftime lead.

Stuttgart opened the scoring with Price rolling left and finding Berry uncovered out of the backfield for a 1-yard touchdown. Parker Ellis‘ extra point made it 7-0 with 8:22 remaining in the first quarter.

Minor supplied the next touchdown on a 15-yard inside screen. He worked across the field, benefited from downfield blocks and shook a defender near the 5 before reaching the end zone with 3:30 left in the quarter.

Keaton Byers quickly gave the offense another opportunity by stripping the ball from a Star City runner and taking possession. Price completed a pass to Jordan Minor to move Stuttgart into scoring position, then found Damarcus Moten uncovered down the middle for a 12-yard touchdown. Ellis’ kick pushed the lead to 21-0 with 2:49 remaining in the first quarter.

Berry converted a third-and-one with an 11-yard run early in the second quarter, then scored from 28 yards on the next play. He cut back toward the middle and eluded defenders on the way to the end zone. The touchdown and Ellis’ extra point made it 28-0 with 9:07 left in the half.

After Knox Hillman made a third-down tackle for loss, Bradley Benton intercepted Star City’s fourth-down pass. Price immediately capitalized, throwing a 61-yard touchdown to Ky’marion Wiley. Wiley slowed to make the catch, then accelerated away to finish the play with 5:14 remaining.

Price completed his five-touchdown half with a 40-yard scoring pass to Bray Minor, who caught the ball in stride near the 10. Ellis made his sixth extra point, giving Stuttgart a 42-0 lead with 2:05 left before halftime.

Braxton Kirkdoffer kept the passing game productive after the break. Montavius Brooks took his short completion down the sideline for a 63-yard touchdown on Stuttgart’s opening possession of the third quarter, and Kane Moore added the extra point for a 49-0 advantage.

Star City scored twice with the running clock in effect. Justin Holloway kept the ball for a 5-yard touchdown late in the third quarter. Kynan Griffith followed with a 75-yard touchdown run with 5:30 left in the fourth, taking a misdirection handoff down the sideline. Nery Vargas kicked both extra points.
