WEEK 10 PREDICTIONS (favored teams in ALL CAPS and highlighted in Orange)

HOOTENS.COM GAME OF THE WEEK:

No. 5 Bentonville West (7-2; 4-2) at No. 3 BENTONVILLE (8-1; 5-1): The playoff picture in Class 7A is absolutely wild. Bentonville could win the 7A West outright with a win and a Shiloh Christian loss. Bentonville’s only regular-season loss was Week 4 to the Saints. A Bentonville West win could create ties for seeding across the 7A West. QB Sutton Mackey and the talented wideouts lead West to victory; a 3-way tie for second place is possible, and a first-round bye becomes a mathematical equation.

7A CENTRAL

No. 7 Little Rock Christian (6-3; 4-2) at PULASKI ACADEMY (3-6; 2-4): This is always a fun way to finish the regular season. LR Christian lost 42-28 last week to top-ranked Conway, but a win here moves it to 5-2 in the 7A Central and gives it the 3 seed with a Bryant loss. A loss for Pulaski Academy could still mean playoff football for the Bruins after Central defeated Cabot a week ago. PA upsets Little Rock Christian and heads to face the No. 3 seed from the West in the first round.

No. 1 CONWAY (8-1; 6-0) at No. 8 Bryant (4-5; 4-2): Conway knocked off Little Rock Christian last week 42-28, establishing the Wampus Cats as the top overall team in Arkansas. Bryant was shut out by North Little Rock a week ago. Conway wins here, is the outright 7A Central champion, gets a first-round bye, and will have home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.

Cabot (3-6, 2-4) at No. 4 NORTH LITTLE ROCK (7-2; 5-1): Cabot’s loss to Central last week really set back the Panthers’ playoff chances. A key victory a few weeks ago over Pulaski Academy had Cabot riding high, and it still has a chance to sneak in. But North Little Rock rolls, earns the No. 2 seed, and gets a first-round bye.

Fort Smith Northside (2-7, 0-6) at LITTLE ROCK CENTRAL (2-7; 1-5): Central comes in with momentum after knocking off Cabot, and the Tigers could make the playoffs with another win and help from others. Northside is winless in conference play. Central wins and holds out hope.

7A WEST

No. 10 Springdale (2-7; 2-4) at No. 2 SHILOH CHRISTIAN (8-1; 5-1): Springdale could get in the playoffs with a victory at Champions Stadium, but it is coming off of a 29-0 loss to Bentonville and has lost 4 of its past 5. Shiloh Christian’s Max Eldridge scored late to finish off Bentonville West 51-48. Shiloh wins this game to capture the 7A West crown outright and a bye to the quarterfinals.

No. 9 ROGERS (2-7; 2-4) at Rogers Heritage (0-9, 0-6): We have seen this before from the Mounties. They always seem to endure the hardest part of their schedule in the first half of the season, but they play their best ball at the right time. Rogers rallied from 11 points down in the first half against Har-Ber, then stormed back to win 31-28 on a Tommy Louree scoop-and-score. Rogers knocks off Heritage.

FAYETTEVILLE (4-5; 2-4) at No. 6 Springdale Har-Ber (6-3; 4-2): Staying in line with a week of upsets, why not the Purple Dogs? Terrence Garden is coming off a 179-yard, 4-TD performance in Fayetteville’s win over Heritage. Har-Ber beat the top 2 teams in the West before sleepwalking into last week’s loss to Rogers. Fayetteville wins its second in a row and awaits good or bad news about the playoffs.
