HOOTENS.COM GAME OF THE WEEK
No. 18 Murfreesboro (5-4, 3-3) at No. 20 MINERAL SPRINGS (3-6, 3-3) (Thurs.)
The winner gets the fourth seed from the 3-2A; the loser stays home.
Murfreesboro is on a 2-game losing streak, falling to Junction City (53-0) and playoff-bound Spring Hill (20-14). QB Kooper Caldwell completed 16 of 22 passes for 167 yards and 2 TDs against Spring Hill. Aden Stinson (10-103 receiving, TD; 5-44 rushing) was a key performer on offense. Kale Burns caught the other TD pass. Murfreesboro Coach Jay Turley says he knows this will be a tough game.
“They are hot right now and playing well,” Turley says of Mineral Springs, “and we haven’t played well the last 2 weeks. Hopefully, we can get some starters back and get some confidence back.”
Mineral Springs enters on a 2-game winning streak, which began after a 28-22 loss to Gurdon dropped it to 1-6. Two weeks ago, the Hornets beat Lafayette County 30-2, then beat Dierks 46-22 last Friday.
“We know the winner of this game earns the fourth seed in the playoffs, but, in our locker room, we started the playoffs 2 weeks ago against Lafayette County,” Mineral Springs Coach Jarrod Jackson said. “We knew we had to get to 4 wins if we wanted a shot, and our kids have really responded. I feel like our team is playing as well as we have all year, as we are currently playing complementary football in all 3 phases. This week, we will continue to keep the focus on us and getting better as a team.”
Mineral Springs QB Keithen Dixon (9-14 passing, 132 yards, TD; 21-72 rushing, 2 TDs) led the offense. Dixon’s TD pass went to Keiandrian Nunally.
Defensively, Amarrion Maxwell, Decayveon White and Damoney Nolen each had INTs against Dierks.
A year ago, Mineral Springs went on the road to beat a Murfreesboro team that 2 weeks earlier had defeated No. 1 Junction City 52-36.
Anything can happen in a rivalry game, but the home-field advantage could be a determining factor.

England (3-6, 2-4) at No. 11 BEARDEN (5-4, 4-2): England’s Kenneth Bryant caught a 73-yard TD pass for the Lions’ only TD against Carlisle. Bearden, which beat Hampton 42-24 three weeks ago, has lost consecutive games to Carlisle and Poyen.
