Turnovers costly as Atkins stifles Prescott in 27–6 win
Atkins 27, Prescott 6
ATKINS — Atkins forced three turnovers and leaned on quarterback Cole Crawford to eliminate Prescott in a Class 3A first‑round playoff game Friday, 27–6. Crawford tossed a 15‑yard strike to Dakota Hamm in the first quarter and a 14‑yard fade to Davyn Bowden late in the second, then the Red Devils stretched the margin on a 36‑yard receiver screen to Bowden early in the third. Kenney Rivas added three PATs as Atkins controlled field position and tempo.
Prescott answered with a 13‑play, 72‑yard march capped by freshman quarterback Desmond Prater’s 1‑yard keeper. Running back K.J. Page and back Kayden Gleason shouldered much of the load between the tackles, with fullback/linebacker Alex Munoz paving lanes inside. Receiver Allen Horn’s chain‑moving grabs, plus timely runs by Cooper Goodall, kept Atkins in front whenever momentum shifted. Austin Martin‑Trussell produced the night’s lone interception early in the third to stall another Curley Wolves push.
Defensively, Prescott’s Richard Benton broke up a deep ball and safety Sean Tribbet closed space on perimeter throws, while lineman Ja’Ryan Zachery and linebacker Brian Woodley were active at the point of attack. Punter/defensive back Rhett Cornish repeatedly flipped the field after stalled drives, and receivers Owen Glass and Roderick McKinney provided Prescott’s biggest gains through the air. Atkins countered with sure tackling in space and rush discipline that smothered quarterback keepers in short yardage. Linebacker Mason Vick set the edge to funnel runs inside. Return man Ethan Linboom aided field position.
