Hector, off to a 6-0 start, beat Mountainburg 44-41 last week. QB Drew Newport (141 yards passing, 2 TDs; 75 rushing yards, 3 TDs). Lucas Baker (157 rushing, TD) and Grayson Mulder (TD reception). Hayden Millsamps had 12 tackles; Newport added 6 tackles, including 2 for losses.
“We are excited about the opportunity this week,” Hector Coach Trevor Cooper said. “Our players have fought hard to put us in this opportunity against a tough Mount Ida team. Coach [Mike] White does a great job over there. They are very disciplined and hard to prepare for. We are going to have to play with great fundamentals and play with more physicality than we have all year.”
Mount Ida has won 5 consecutive games after a 16-14 loss to Junction City in its season opener. The Lions beat Magazine 42-13, its fourth consecutive game of scoring at least 40 points.
Andy Black had 2 INTs on defense and scored a rushing TD. Jackson White, Dalton Young and Chris Dorrell each had 6 tackles. Cain McCullough had 2 rushing TDs as the Lions had 278 yards and 42 points at halftime against Magazine.
“They are a well-coached and disciplined team,” White said. “They are very explosive on offense.”
Home-field advantage might tilt the outcome Mount Ida’s way.

No. 13 BIGELOW (2-4, 2-1) at Mountainburg (2-4, 0-3): Bigelow’s Wrangler Manes rushed for 167 yards and 2 TDs on 7 rushes against Magazine. Easton Platt had 135 yards receiving and 2 TDs on 5 receptions. QB Cal Adams (165 passing yards, 3 TDs; 111 rushing, TD). Angel Alvarado had 2 INTs for the Panthers. Mountainburg pushed Hector in a 44-41 loss. Brayden Dudley (168 rushing, 4 TDs; 12 tackles) led his team. QB Easton Overbey ran for a TD and passed for another. Levi Pense led the Dragons with 10 tackles. Adam Longley had an INT.
No. 20 CONWAY CHRISTIAN (3-3, 2-1) at Mountain Pine (1-5, 1-2): Defending state champion Conway Christian beat JC Westside 48-0 behind the play of QB Xander Stone, who passed for 278 yards and 5 TDs. Ian Brister caught 2 TD passes; Kyle Cain, Caleb McKinney and Caleb Everette each caught TD passes. Mountain Pine fell to Bigelow 44-30. Zachary Middleton scored 2 rushing TDs in Mountain Pine’s 44-30 loss to Bigelow. Caleb Beach and Gavin Ventress each scored rushing TDs.
No. 14 MAGAZINE (4-2, 1-2) at JC Westside (0-5, 0-3): Magazine lost 42-13 to third-ranked Mount Ida. Mark Cameron scored his first career TD and led the Rattlers in rushing. Chakong Yang led Magazine in tackles. Westside’s Nathan Powell (12-45 rushing) and Payton Williamson (6 receptions) led the offense against Conway Christian.

No. 8 Earle (5-1, 3-0) at No. 1 EAST POINSETT COUNTY (5-1, 3-0): Earle is coming off a shutout win over Marianna. QB Ta’Ron Hurst passed for 100 yards and a TD and Zayion Maples rushed for 87 yards on 10 carries. DT Bell returned an INT 109 yards for a TD and caught a TD pass. Xavier Jones had an INT. EPC edged No. 7 Cross County in a battle for first in the 2-2A. Jacob Gaines rushed for 127 yards and a TD on 15 carries. Eli Blagg passed for 94 yards and a TD and ran for another.
No. 7 CROSS COUNTY (4-2, 2-1) at Marianna (0-5, 0-3): Cross County lost 20-16 to top-ranked EPC. Caden Finley led the Thunderbirds defense with 12 tackles. Dereon Branch had 5. Drake Halk returned an INT for a TD.
Izard County (1-5, 0-3) at DES ARC (4-2, 2-1): Izard County QB Kyler Brashear passed for 197 yards and 2 TDs against McCrory. Aaron Dockins had 16 tackles to lead the Cougars. James Down and Benaiah Spray each caught TD passes. Des Arc QB Hudson Goodman scored 3 rushing TDs in the first quarter against Marked Tree. Kaibrein Buchanan rushed for 142 yards, scoring on runs of 64 and 34 yards in the second quarter.
No. 12 MARKED TREE (3-3, 1-2) at No. 16 McCrory (3-3, 1-2): Marked Tree came up short against Des Arc, 52-20. The Indians scored 3 TDs — 1 each by Dmarion White and Jayvon Harris on the ground and a 70-yard reception by Jaiden Andrews on a pass from PJ Powell. McCrory’s Bryson Waymire rushed for 92 yards and 2 TDs against Izard County. Jackson Leonard also scored a TD.

No. 17 Dierks (3-3, 1-2) at No. 2 JUNCTION CITY (5-1, 3-0): Dierks QB Peyton Boeckman passed for 134 yards and a TD to Drake Thatcher last week. Thatcher also scored a rushing TD. Junction City QB Dakory Larry ran for 213 yards and 3 TDs against Gurdon. Jaxxon Caldwell rushed for 67 yards and a TD. Dalton Baker had 9 tackles and 2 sacks. Dakylan Hampton had 5 tackles, 2 forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, and an INT.
Lafayette County (1-5, 0-3) at No. 15 MURFREESBORO (4-2, 2-1): Lafayette County had its second-highest scoring output in a 58-34 loss to Spring Hill. Jordan Walters rushed for 233 yards and 3 TDs. He also scored a 2-point conversion. Michael Webb caught 2 TD passes. Murfreesboro QB Kooper Caldwell passed for 436 yards and 7 TDs against Dierks. Kale Burns caught 3 TD passes, Isaac Kuykendall caught 2; Aden Stinson and Cale Humphry both caught 1.
Mineral Springs (1-5, 1-2) at No. 19 GURDON (3-3, 2-1): Mineral Springs edged Foreman 6-0 for its first win. Keith Dixon scored the game’s only TD. Keadrian Nunnally led the Hornets with 8 tackles. Gurdon lost 43-0 to No. 2 Junction City. QB Jonah Jester passed for 64 yards in the loss.
Foreman (2-4, 0-3) at No. 18 SPRING HILL (4-2, 3-0): Foreman enters off a shutout loss to Mineral Springs. Vicktron Moore led the Gators with 7 tackles; Kaylon Easter and Lannden Shurtleff had 5 tackles each. Spring Hill QB Jaxon Smith passed for 2 TDs, both to Karson Hamilton, in a win over Lafayette County.

No. 9 Poyen (3-3, 2-1) at No. 6 CARLISLE (5-1, 2-1): Poyen rallied to beat Hazen 54-53 behind QB Colt Barrett (5 rushing TDs, 1 passing TD). Austin Harness rushed for 164 yards and 2 TDs. Carlisle lost its first conference game since 2022 at Hampton. QB Baylor Hauk threw 3 TD passes — 1 each by Tyler Thrift, Mason Boyle, and Cajuan Pernell. Remi Gisclair ran for a TD.
No. 5 HAMPTON (6-0, 3-0) at No. 10 Bearden (4-2, 3-0): Hampton held off Carlisle last week to set up this battle for first in the 4-2A. QB DJ Clark passed for 168 yards and a TD and rushed for 117 yards and 3 more TDs. Deondre Smith caught 2 TD passes. Darren Norris led the defense with eight tackles. Bearden enters off a 24-0 win over Clarendon and has won 3 in a row after a 1-2 start. Marky Jimmerson scored 3 TDs, Colton Emerson scored a rushing TD and Kemari Nettles intercepted 2 passes.
Clarendon (0-6, 0-3) at ENGLAND (2-4, 1-2): Clarendon is averaging 9.0 points per game. England lost 28-19 to Baptist Prep. QB Jordan Palmer passed for 121 yards and a TD and rushed for 128 yards. Jarvis Drayer caught a TD pass. Aiden Scribner had 6 tackles
Baptist Prep (2-4, 1-2) at HAZEN (1-5, 0-3): Baptist Prep upset England 28-19 last week. QB Aaron Fielder passed for 2 TDs, caught a TD pass and finished with 225 all-purpose yards. Austin Herring caught a TD pass and had an INT. Jacob Dunnn had 7 tackles, a fumble recovery and an interception. Shep Garrison scored a TD and led the defense with 8 tackles. Hazen came up a point short in a shootout with Poyen. JJ Pinkney rushed for 161 yards and 3 TDs, and Noah Adkins had 130 yards and 3 TDs. He also led the Hornets with 14 tackles.
