Moore’s Three Touchdowns Lift Mansfield Past Mena

MANSFIELD — Fullback Colton Moore rushed for 170 yards and three touchdowns on 26 carries as Mansfield defeated Mena 52-35 Friday, Sept. 4. The Tigers finished with 484 rushing yards, and both teams left the nonconference game 1-1.
Mena scored 14 points in each of the first two quarters. Mansfield matched the Bearcats in the opening period and added 16 second-quarter points, taking a 30-28 halftime lead.
Silas Burton’s 39-yard touchdown run and Moore’s 12-yard score helped Mansfield finish the half ahead. Quarterback Jubal Parks connected with Jeremiah Burton for a 31-yard touchdown in the third quarter, and the Tigers carried a 38-28 advantage into the fourth.
Mena closed to 38-35 before Moore added two touchdown runs. Mansfield recovered a fumble on a kickoff between those scores, setting up Moore’s final 24-yard touchdown.
Quarterback Hank Rose led Mena with 135 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries. He completed five of nine passes for 51 yards, accounting for 186 yards of total offense.
Running back Chance Hughes contributed 97 yards and two rushing touchdowns on 11 attempts. He also scored on a fumble return, caught three passes for 16 yards and recorded nine tackles, including one for loss.
Mena totaled 239 rushing yards and 290 yards of offense. Tycen Baber caught two passes for 35 yards. Parks completed one of three passes for Mansfield, with his touchdown throw to Jeremiah Burton providing all 31 passing yards. Mansfield outscored Mena 22-7 after halftime, including eight unanswered points in the third.
