WEEK 11 PLAYOFF PREDICTIONS (favored team in CAPS followed by point spread.)
FIRST ROUND
Top Half of Bracket

3-2A champ McCRORY has a bye.
Palestine-Wheatley at MOUNTAIN PINE (21): No. 14 Red Devils have too much firepower in senior TB DeAndre Jenkins. Jenkins has rushed 114 times for 1,023 yards and 10 TDs this season, including 197 yards and two TDs in last week's 24-21 loss at Danville with the 5-2A title on the line. Junior WR Brandon Heller makes big plays at receiver (24 receptions for 487 yards, seven TDs), and last week returned an interception 99 yards for a TD. Mountain Pine owns a plus-11 turnover ratio.
Salem at BEARDEN (45): No. 17 Salem just has no way to prepare for top-ranked Bearden's first-team defense, led by senior LB John Bradley, that has allowed 33 points all season.
MINERAL SPRINGS (16) at Hackett: Battle of Hornets goes to 7-2A fourth seed, Mineral Springs. Hackett senior guard Zac Glover (5-11, 190) led a young OL this fall, paving the way for sophomore and leading rusher Dakota McBride. Wild year at Mineral Springs where veteran Coach Gary Segrest resigned before the season and interim coach Don Cooley took a leave of absence Week 8 for knee replacement surgery.

Smackover at HAZEN (10): No. 3 Hazen must avoid a complete letdown this week, or at least, wake up before halftime after its 26-18 three-overtime win over rival Carlisle. Of Hazen's three sophomore running backs, Matt Tenison has rushed for more than 400 yards, including 61 yards last week. Tenison then intercepted Carlisle's final pass to preserve the victory.
Walnut Ridge at WOODLAWN (6): Cross County ran 1,600-yard rusher Blake Veasley successfully Week 3 at Walnut Ridge. Woodlawn's Wishbone has faced the best defenses in 2A football in Bearden and Junction City. Woodlawn managed one fourth-quarter TD in a 46-8 loss to Bearden and 80 yards in a 35-0 loss to Junction City. A bad ankle has slowed Woodlawn senior FB Davy Ernest most of the year, but seniors Hank Long and Dalton Fowler, and sophomores Blake Brown and Dillon Aldy combined for 240 yards last week in a 28-7 win over Smackover.
CLARENDON (2) at Union Christian: Union Christian lost in the first round of the 2008 playoffs to a Marvell team that was not as good as this Clarendon team. UC enters the game on a two-game winning streak after losing the 4-2A title Week 7 to Magazine 34-6.
Western Yell at SPRING HILL (42): Memo to WYC: Beware of No. 30, junior and 1,000-yard rusher Rodrea Jones, and No. 42, sophomore Kevin Aaron.

Bottom half of Bracket
7-2A champ MURFREESBORO has a bye.
Dierks at JUNCTION CITY (35): Junction City's defense has slipped from a year ago when it allowed 2 feet per rushing attempt. Dragons giving up 2 yards per rushing attempt this year. Senior DT Byran Jones (6-3, 295) paces the Dragons with 11.5 tackles for loss. JC running backs Kiedarian Ross (506 yards) and Alan Turner (512 yards) propel the Dragons' Wishbone to 300 yards (8.3 yards per rushing attempt) and 43 points per game.
J.C. Westside at DANVILLE (42): Danville sophomore RB Jaylon Ester goes over 1,000 yards for the season as the 5-2A champion Little Johns head for the state quarterfinals. Senior DE Jacob Gates paces Danville with 89 tackles, including 15 sacks and 14 tackles for loss.
Cross County at CONWAY CHRISTIAN (2): Cross County features senior RB Blake Veasley (1,600 yards), who carries 30 times a game. Conway Christian counters with two soon-to-be 1,000-yard rushers in juniors Adam "Fuzzy" Ragland (999 yards; 8 yards per carry) and Bates Isom (935 yards; 10.6 ypc). Senior MLB Jonathan Watson paces Conway Christian with 111 tackles, including 15 for loss.

Two Rivers at MAGAZINE (2): Magazine needs quick start against up-and-down Two Rivers. Magazine's marquee win came Week 1 when the Rattlers toppled Class 4A (current) No. 25 and playoff qualifier Subiaco Academy. Two Rivers senior RB/LB Matt Damon makes the Gators go.
CARLISLE (14) at Horatio: No. 5 Carlisle's talent level has been higher in past, but Bison long on grit and tradition. Underclassmen dominate the Horatio lineup, which bodes well for 2010-2011 but not Friday night. Horatio sophomore QB Corey Moreland played big in losses to 7-2A champ Murfreesboro (49-34) and Spring Hill (63-40). Moreland passed for three TDs and ran for two TDs at Spring Hill. He completed 27 of 40 passes for 269 yards and five TDs at Murfreesboro.
Strong at AUGUSTA (1): Augusta will need another determined effort after it fought back from a 15-pont deficit last week to big-play Walnut Ridge and win 57-30. Augusta junior RB Ishma Clark returned a kickoff 70 yards for a score and ran 89 yards for a TD. Tim Finley returned an interception 89 yards for a TD. Octavius Lockhart ripped off a 47-yard TD run and returned an interception 35 yards for a score.
Cutter M. Star at DES ARC (36): Battle of Eagles goes to No. 4 Des Arc. Des Arc runs away from outmanned Cutter Morning Star, which moves up to 3A next year. Des Arc on collision course for rematch with Carlisle in the quarterfinals. Des Arc beat Carlisle 30-22 in OT Week 7.
