CLASS 3A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

7-3A (1) BISMARCK (13-0) vs. 2-3A (1) Salem (11-3): Whatever happens this Saturday at War Memorial Stadium, one team will walk away with its first state championship. The Bismarck Lions look to complete a perfect season. They beat Atkins in the second round 55-14 following a first-round bye. The Lions bested Osceola 28-17 in the quarterfinals, handing the Seminoles their first loss to an In-state opponent this season. Bismarck made a statement win last week in the semifinals with a 49-12 win over a Fordyce team that entered the game with a 13-0 record. QB Ben Keithley (111 yards passing, 2 TDs; 148 yards rushing, 2 TDs), WR Preston Hughes (48 yards receiving, 1 TD) and WR Johnny Diaz (36 yards receiving, 1 TD) led the offense. The defensive effort was led by Malachi Stephenson (12 tackles, 6 TFLs), Ethan Hughes (1 INT returned for TD) and Caed Keithley (1 INT returned for TD). Salem has run through a gauntlet of opponents in the playoffs, proving itself these last 4 weeks. The Greyhounds took out West Fork 46-7 in the first round, then followed with a win over then-No. 1 team Prescott 16-10 with a last- second TD pass. The Greyhounds put the state on notice in the quarterfinals with a 50-18 win over traditional powerhouse Rivercrest. Salem was up to the task last week, winning 38-20 at Mansfield. Junior RB Kaden Brink (36 rushes, 224 yards, 5 TDs) led the Salem offense, and the defense recorded 2 shutout quarters. These teams will face against each for the first time ever this Saturday.
