CLASS 6A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME RECAP
The Greenwood Bulldogs completed an undefeated run to the 2024 Class 6A state title on Saturday afternoon with a 61-35 victory over Shiloh Christian at War Memorial Stadium. Greenwood has won 12 state titles, all coming since 2000. The 12 crowns are the most in the state since the playoff format began in 1968.
Greenwood scored on its first 8 possessions against Shiloh Christian — leading 14-7 after the first quarter, 42-21 at halftime, and 54-28 after 3 quarters. Junior quarterback Kane Archer earned his second consecutive finals MVP, throwing for 321 yards and 3 touchdowns, and rushing for 131 yards and 4 scores. Archer wrapped up his 2024 season with more touchdown passes (57) than incompletions (54) and 2 interceptions. Champ Davis caught 10 passes for 106 yards, while Grant Karnes (7-134 receiving, 2 TDs) played in his fourth consecutive state final. Davis also returned an interception 99 yards for a TD. Senior Cash Archer, brother to Kane, racked up 9 tackles, including 2.5 for losses with 1.5 sacks.
Shiloh Christian played for the state title in its first season competing in Class 6A after spending the past 2 seasons in Class 5A, and in Class 4A before that. Jake Bodenstein completed 27 of 42 passes against Greenwood for 382 yards and 2 TDs. Zane Sluyter caught 12 passes in the final for 144 yards and a TD, while Chandler Kemp caught 7 balls for 173 yards and another score.
Greenwood topped Shiloh Christian twice this season, and the two meetings were Greenwood’s closest margins of victory. The Bulldogs stuffed the Saints 28-17 in the conference opener in September before winning on Saturday by 26 points.
2024 RECAP
Greenwood opened the 2024 season ranked No. 1 in last summer’s Hooten’s Arkansas Football magazine, while Shiloh Christian was the preseason No. 3 team. The Saints bested second-ranked Benton in the playoff semifinals.
Mountain Home opened the 2024 season ranked No. 10 in the book, but the Bombers finished 10-3 with their 3 losses to the 2 teams that played for the state title.
League coaches picked Sheridan to finish last in the 6A East, but the Yellowjackets overcame those odds and qualified for the playoffs for the first time since 2020 and lost a 57-50 game at Mountain Home in the first round of the playoffs.
