No. 2 Junction City at No. 7 Murfreesboro

 
Murfreesboro's balanced offense should test Junction City. Murfreesboro rolled up 1,468 rushing and 1,391 passing yards this fall. Senior QB Tyler McRae has completed 53 percent of his passes for 1,391 yards and 20 TDs with six interceptions. Senior Garrett Gills leads the Rattlers with 50 receptions for 637 yards and 103 tackles. Junction City's defense has slipped from a year ago when it allowed 2 feet per rushing attempt. Dragons giving up 2 yards per rushing attempt this year. Junction City owns a plus-24 turnover margin. Senior DT Byran Jones (6-3, 295) paces the Dragons with 19 tackles for loss, including 7.5 TFL last week in a 45-0 win over Dierks. Junction City running backs Kiedarian Ross (606 yards) and Alan Turner (583 yards) propel the Dragons' Wishbone to 306 yards (8.3 yards per rushing attempt) and 43 points per game.

Mountain Pine at McCRORY (19): No. 13 Mountain Pine senior TB DeAndre Jenkins has rushed for 1,100 yards this season, including 197 yards and two TDs in a 24-21 loss Week 10 at Danville with the 5-2A title on the line. Jenkins opened last week's first-round win over Palestine-Wheatley with a 72-yard kickoff return for a TD. Mountain Pine owns a plus-11 turnover ratio. No. 5 McCrory boasts a plus-25 turnover ratio. The Jaguars have returned eight interceptions, four punts and four kickoffs for TDs in 2009. Senior Jadrien Holliday leads the McCrory defense with more than 80 tackles. McCrory senior TB Boyd Williams has rushed 121 times for 1,528 yards (12.6 ypc) and 24 TDs, carrying in the second half of just one game as McCrory starters watched reserves finish blowout victories.

Mineral Springs at BEARDEN (38): Top-ranked Bearden's first-team defense, led by senior LB John Bradley (62 tackles; 14 tackles for loss) has allowed 33 points all season. Senior cornerback Jarell Moore has intercepted seven passes, including two last week in the 63-14 smoking of Salem. Bearden limited Salem to negative-11 yards rushing. Bearden's leading rusher Ricky Brown ran 11 times last week for 150 yards and five TDs. Brown has rushed for more than 100 yards in just three games as reserves played in the second half of blowout victories. Mineral Springs senior Shaun Richardson has paced the Hornets this year, including a 200-yard performance last week in a 36-32 come-from-behind win at Hackett. Coach Gary Segrest resigned at Mineral Springs before the season, and interim coach Don Cooley took a leave of absence Week 8 for knee replacement surgery.

Woodlawn at HAZEN (15): Of Hazen's three sophomore running backs, Matt Tenison has rushed for 500 yards, including 51 yards on 11 carries last week against Smackover and 61 yards Week 10 against Carlisle. Tenison intercepted a 2-point conversion pass in the third overtime to seal Hazen's 26-18 win over Carlisle. Last week, Tenison returned a fumble 40 yards for a TD in the 25-7 win over Smackover. The Hazen defense forced four turnovers against Smackover but allowed a season-high 287 yards. Woodlawn broke its run-first 'Bone (Wishbone) last week when QB Jordan Spakes completed a 29-yard TD pass to Brandon Spakes. No. 8 Woodlawn managed one fourth-quarter TD in a 46-8 loss to Bearden and 80 yards in a 35-0 loss to Junction City. A bad ankle has slowed Woodlawn senior FB Davy Ernest most of the year, but seniors Hank Long and Dalton Fowler, and sophomores Blake Brown and Dillon Aldy combined for 240 yards Week 10 in a 28-7 win over Smackover.    

SPRING HILL (8) at Union Christian: Spring Hill junior TB Rodrea Jones has rushed for 1,200 yards, including 163 yards and two TDs in last week's 38-0 win over Western Yell County. Senior running mate Corey Powell and sophomore Kevin Aaron help fuel the most potent rushing attack in the 7-2A. Union Christian recorded its first playoff win last week by thumping Clarendon 33-18, racking up 397 rushing yards. Mohammed Matlock paced UC with 148 yards on just 14 carries.

Cross County at DANVILLE (3): Danville sophomore RB Jaylon Ester surpassed 1,000 yards for the season last week by carrying nine times for 108 yards and two TDs in a 41-6 blowout of J.C. Westside. Danville kicker Ulises Gutierrez could provide the difference this week. He kicked a 31-yard field goal to beat Mountain Pine two weeks ago and has the leg strength to hit 50-yarders. No. 14 Cross County features senior power 'back Blake Veasley (2,000 yards). Veasley carried 23 times last week for 343 yards and four TDs in a 57-36 win at Conway Christian. Cross County did not punt, and head coach Steve Williams said his offensive line played its best game of the year.   

CARLISLE (10) at Magazine: No. 12 Magazine did not simply record its first postseason win last week. The Rattlers, led by 13 seniors, blew away Two Rivers 55-0 behind three defensive TDs by Dakota Kohler. Senior Michael Corbitt paces the Rattlers in rushing, while sophomore QB Ryan Chambers passes to his twin and favorite receiver Cory Chambers. No. 5 Carlisle counters with senior RB Travis Harrison, junior RB Blake Perkins and blossoming sophomore QB Zach King. The Bison ran 50 times for 400 yards last week in a 47-14 win over Horatio. Carlisle reached the state semifinals the past two years and was eliminated by the eventual state champion in 2006 (Jessieville), 2007 (Mount Ida) and 2008 (Junction City).   

Strong at DES ARC (18): Des Arc junior RB Cody Robinson and senior RB Jordan Holloway run behind a veteran line anchored by Sonic Super Team guard Brent Calhoun. Strong senior Alonzo Dixon and sophomore Kenneth Dixon combined for 303 rushing yards last week in a 37-22 win at Augusta. Des Arc won a state title in 1976. The Eagles lost to Junction City 10-8 on the last play of the 2008 state title game.
