No. 1 Bearden at No. 5 McCrory

 
McCrory's offense centers around senior TB Boyd Williams (1,720 yards; 12 ypc), who ran for 192 yards and two TDs last week in a 42-14 win over Mountain Pine. Senior LB Jadrien Holiday (90 tackles) paces the McCrory defense and has scored 21 TDs as McCrory's leading receiver and return specialist. Holiday severely burned his hand while trying to put out a grease fire last week and missed all the Jaguars' practices. But Holiday lit it up Friday night, running for 43 yards and two TDs and catching a TD pass. No. 5 McCrory owns a plus-25 turnover ratio. The Jaguars have returned eight interceptions, four punts and four kickoffs for TDs in 2009.  Top-ranked Bearden's first-team defense, led by senior LB John Bradley (71 tackles, 15 TFL, three sacks) has allowed 33 points all season. Bearden has forced 28 turnovers, and its first-team offense has lost just two turnovers. Senior cornerback Jarell Moore has intercepted seven passes, including two picks Week 11 in the 63-14 smoking of Salem. Bearden's leading rusher Ricky Brown has rushed 20 times for 330 yards and 10 TDs over the past two weeks in wins over Salem and Mineral Springs. Brown has scored 16 TDs in the past four games and only one of them came in a second half. KEY MATCHUP: McCrory offensive tackles Hunter Adams (6-3, 325) and sophomore Jemar Clark (6-6, 280) vs. Bearden DE Davidell Collins (6-6, 245) and Chris Jenkins (6-1, 250).

No. 3 Spring Hill at No. 9 HAZEN (5): Hazen sophomore running back Matt Tenison has rushed for 600 yards, including 73 yards on nine carries last week in a 19-7 win over Woodlawn. The Hornets managed just 97 yards in the first half but exploded for 200 yards in the second, led by Darius Mosby's 82 yards on 13 carries. The Hazen defense, led by end Mosby and tackle Kendall Cook, held Woodlawn to 166 yards. Spring Hill (10-2) boasts one of the bigger turnarounds in the state after going 1-9 last season. Spring Hill junior TB Rodrea Jones has rushed for 1,200 yards. Jones ran for 163 yards and two TDs in a 38-0 Week 11 win over Western Yell County. Last week, Jones torched Union Christian for 168 yards, and he returned an interception 67 yards for a TD. Spring Hill dropped Union Christian 32-6 despite losing three fumbles. Senior running mate Corey Powell (three TDs last week) and sophomore Kevin Aaron help fuel the most potent rushing attack in the 7-2A.

No. 2 JUNCTION CITY (12) at No. 10 Danville:
Junction City's defense allowed 2 feet per rushing attempt in 2008. This year the Dragons allow 5 feet (1.8 yards) per rushing attempt. Junction owns a plus-26 turnover margin. Senior DT Byran Jones (6-3, 295) paces the Dragons with 21 tackles for loss and 74 total tackles. Junior Jacob Pumphrey has 73.5 tackles and three interceptions. The Dragons allow three points per game. JC running backs Kiedarian Ross (699 yards) and Alan Turner (798 yards) propel the Dragons' Wishbone to 312 yards (8.2 yards per rushing attempt) and 42 points per game. Junction City's seniors are 40-4 in their varsity careers. Junction City is 110-19 this decade. Danville sophomore RB Jaylon Ester has rushed for 1,204 yards and 19 yards, while senior end Jacob Gates leads the defense with 103 tackles, including 15 sacks and 16 tackles for loss. Danville starts four sophomores on defense, including Gage Whitworth (nine TFL). Danville kicker Ulises Gutierrez kicked a 31-yard field goal to beat Mountain Pine four weeks ago and has the leg strength to hit 50-yarders.

No. 4 DES ARC (8) at No. 12 Magazine: Magazine, led by 13 seniors, blew away Two Rivers 55-0 two weeks ago behind three defensive TDs by Dakota Kohler. Last week, the Rattlers stunned tradition-rich Carlisle 30-16 thanks to a stingy defense that shut out Carlisle in the first, third and fourth quarter. Sophomore MLB John Dority paces Magazine with 114 tackles, and sophomore NG Bubbi Day has recorded 60 stops. Senior Michael Corbitt leads the Rattlers with 615 rushing yards, while sophomore QB Ryan Chambers (1,344 passing yards and 14 TDs) passes to his twin and favorite receiver Cory Chambers (700 yards, 10 TDs). Des Arc junior RB Cody Robinson (1,200 rushing/receiving yards) and senior RB Jordan Holloway run behind a veteran line anchored by Sonic Super Team guard Brent Calhoun, who has rarely been blocked the past two seasons. Des Arc won a state title in 1976. The Eagles lost to Junction City 10-8 on the last play of the 2008 state title game.
