No. 1 Charleston at No. 2 Fountain Lake

 
Charleston and Fountain Lake returned a combined 23 starters from their 2008 squads that met in the state title game. They meet again Friday night in the quarterfinals. Charleston extended its winning streak to 25 games after beating Rison 35-13 last week. The Tigers held Rison to 143 yards of offense. Senior QB Derrick Haney (63 percent pass completion) has passed for 1,524 yards and 25 TDs, while junior FB Ryan McDonald has 148 carries for 1,281 yards and 18 TDs this year. Senior wingback and State Farm Awards watch list player Michael Meador (12 yards per carry) has 39 carries for 465 yards and four TDs and 30 catches for 552 yards and nine TDs this season. Charleston's defense, led by junior LB Zach White and sophomore LB David Weeks (both with a team-high 63 tackles), allows 10 ppg.

Fountain Lake enjoys home field advantage throughout the playoffs. Coach Tommy Gilleran says his team will not have any excuses this year; it lost to Charleston 47-20 last year. Fountain Lake junior RB Mark Makin (147 yards per game) ran for 140 yards and two TDs on 15 carries in last week's 51-21 win over Lamar. Makin has rushed for 1,615 yards and 25 TDs this year. Junior QB David Gray has accounted for 1,321 yards of offense and 13 TDs. On defense Fountain Lake allows 11 ppg. Senior LB and State Farm Awards watch list player Tyler Snyder paces the Cobra defense with 108 tackles (21 unassisted) this year. This game's winner faces Harrisburg or Harding Academy next week.

WEEK 14 PLAYOFF PREDICTIONS (favored team in CAPS followed by point spread)
No. 7 Mansfield at No. 4 RIVERCREST (3)

Mansfield trailed Perryville by six points at halftime last week, but shut out the 4-3A champions in the second half and scored 13 unanswered points to beat the Mustangs 23-16. Junior RBs Garrett Sutton and Seth Feimster lead Mansfield's split back Veer. Sutton has rushed for 1,056 yards and 23 TDs, while Feimster has 90 carries for 1,003 yards and eight TDs this year. Senior WR and State Farm Awards watch list player Gunner Black paces the Tigers with 42 receptions for 542 yards and three TDs. Senior DL Shay Boyd (team-high nine tackles for loss) and junior LB Kenny Williams (team-high 87 tackles) lead the Tiger defense.

Rivercrest junior QB Demoine Brown ran 17 times for 158 yards and three TDs to lead the Colts in last week's 40-20 win over Bauxite. The game was tied at 14 until Brown ran 60 yards for a TD with 7:06 left in the third quarter. Brown leads the team with 1,460 all-purpose yards and 17 TDs this season. Junior RB/LB Earl Byrd averages a team-high 7.2 yards per carry and junior WR/RB Terrance Banks paces the Colts with 14 catches for 271 yards and two TDs and has 49 carries for 243 yards and seven TDs. The Colt defense, led by senior LB Jasper Jackson (team-high 106 tackles), forces five turnovers per game. Byrd leads the team in four defensive categories: tackles for loss (16), QB hurries (21), forced fumbles (7) and recovered fumbles (5). The winner of this game advances to the semifinals and plays Prescott or Glen Rose.

No. 16 Glen Rose at No. 6 PRESCOTT (10)
Glen Rose has won four of its last five games and improved to 10-6 all-time in the playoffs after its 28-14 win at Barton last week. Glen Rose junior RB Steven Kehner ran for 218 yards and three TDs, and senior QB Ethan Holicer threw a 27-yard TD pass to senior WR Paul Ditzig (12 TDs in 2009). Kehner has rushed for 2,078 yards and 21 TDs, while Holicer has passed for 1,946 yards and 29 TDs this year. Senior LB Tyler Mantooth (88 tackles) and sophomore LB Dalton Furman pace the Beaver defense, which held Barton to 125 yards of offense. Coach Mark Kehner expects Furman to return this week from a Week 10 injury (broken hand) against Bauxite.

Prescott beat Lavaca 48-7 last week and scored on its first play from scrimmage when junior WR Avery Shaw raced 47-yards on a reverse for a TD. The Curley Wolves held Lavaca to one first down in the first half and 111 yards of offense. Senior RB James Colbert ran 23, 24 and 29 yards for TDs. Prescott's last two playoff losses were to 5-3A members Bauxite (47-35 in 2007) and Fountain Lake (22-21 in 2008). This game's winner faces Mansfield or Rivercrest next week.

No. 5 Harrisburg at No. 3 HARDING ACADEMY (6)
If you enjoy seeing the scoreboard light up, head to Searcy Friday night. Each averages close to 40 points per game and has a State Farm Awards watch list player (Harrisburg senior WR Jake Streeter and Harding Academy senior WR Tyler Gentry) on its roster. Harrisburg has won eight consecutive games and reached 11 victories (most in school history) after it beat Camden Harmony Grove 34-7 last week. Junior QB Zach Davis has completed 200 of 303 passes (66 percent) for 3,164 and 31 TDs with just seven interceptions. Senior receiver Jake Streeter has 60 receptions for 1,143 yards and 15 TDs with one dropped ball. Junior RB Zach Pretty has rushed 142 times for 1,135 yards and 19 TDs.

Harding Academy improved to 42-20 in the playoffs after its 43-13 win over Paris last week. Wildcat junior QB Seth Keese completed nine of 14 passes for 237 yards and three TDs and ran the ball eight times for 114 yards and two TDs, while Gentry caught five passes for 144 yards and two TDs. Keese has accounted for more than 2,800 yards of offense and 37 TDs this season. Gentry has 42 catches for 847 yards (20 yards per catch) and 10 TDs. The winner plays Charleston or Fountain Lake in the semifinals.
