HOOTENS.COM GAME OF THE WEEK
No. 6 Warren at No. 4 Dumas
This should decide the league title. Undefeated Dumas allows just seven points per game and the Bobcats feature a stout running attack with Little Rock Hall transfer Sherodrick Smith (more than 600 yards) and Jamarean Buchanan (more than 400 yards). Highly touted junior quarterback Darion Griswold effectively directs the offense "but he hasn't been forced to have a big night yet," said Dumas coach Mark Courtney. Griswold averages 130 yards passing per game. Buchanan, Rodterrion Harrell and Daveon Horn lead the Bobcats in tackles from their linebacker positions. Senior Bobby Boyd, who switched from receiver to cornerback in the spring, intercepted three passes in last week's 29-14 victory at Dollarway.
Warren has won its past two games by a combined 85-41. Senior quarterback Hayden Smith has completed 94 of 172 passes (55 percent) for 1,290 yards and 14 touchdowns this year. He rushed for 92 yards in last week's 45-19 win over Star City and returned an interception for a TD the previous week against Dollarway. "He can hurt you throwing or running," Courtney said. Warren receiver Rahaim Alford, who has committed to Arkansas State University, caught 10 passes for 176 yards and scored four TDs against Star City.
LAST WEEK
Hootens.com correctly predicted 21 of 24 games (88 percent). For the season, Hootens.com has correctly predicted 156 of 181 games (86 percent).
TV SHOW
Hooten's Arkansas Football airs at 11 a.m. Saturday on Today's THV 11 in Little Rock and KFSM in Fort Smith/Fayetteville. Games scheduled to be featured this week include Warren at Dumas, Stuttgart at Bald Knob, Booneville at Pottsville, Clarksville at West Fork and Nashville at Pulaski Oak Grove.
WEEK 6 PREDICTIONS (favored team in ALL CAPS followed by point spread)
1-4A
FARMINGTON (21) at Berryville: Farmington's D gives up 10 points a game, the same amount Berryville scores weekly. Farmington QB Chance Hyslip passed and ran for scores last week.
GENTRY (1) at Pea Ridge: Gentry struggled to slow Gravette's running attack last week, allowing 313 yards. Pea Ridge has struggled getting snaps and blocking up front.
Huntsville at GRAVETTE (16): Gravette features one of the better running attacks and defenses (give up eight ppg) in Class 4A. Huntsville averages 30 points a game, and the Eagles have topped that mark three times this year.
SHILOH CHRISTIAN (30) at Prairie Grove: Prairie Grove's stout running game and solid D may cause a few problems for the Saints, who feature the best defensive front in Class 4A.
2-4A
DeWitt at CLINTON (18): Undefeated Clinton averages 44 points per game, and senior three-year starting linebacker Leif Davidson has amassed 65 tackles this year. DeWitt, which lost its homecoming by two points last week, gives up 41 ppg.
LONOKE (28) at Southside Batesville: Both teams looking for their first league victory. Lonoke has been outscored by an average of 17 points in consecutive losses to Heber Springs and Bald Knob.
Marianna at HEBER SPRINGS (7): This game kick-started Heber Springs' run to the quarterfinals last season. The Panthers had some untimely mistakes and turnovers in last week's three-point loss at Stuttgart.
STUTTGART (2) at Bald Knob: Bald Knob has a chip on its shoulder, and the Bulldogs have already beaten perennial powerhouses Newport and Lonoke this season. But Stuttgart's D (gives up 11 points per game) should stymie Bald Knob's potent attack (averages 31 ppg). Bulldog QB Nick Glaze has accounted for 1,620 yards and 13 TDs this year.
3-4A
Jonesboro Westside at HIGHLAND (3): Jonesboro Westside beat Highland 16-0 a year ago. The Warriors were penalized just once in last week's loss 47-6 loss at Osceola. Highland averages just nine points per game.
OSCEOLA (17) at Trumann: Osceola speedy running back Tony Dancy averages 8.2 yards per carry. Trumann hung with Osceola for a half before losing by 28 points last season. Wildcat QB Blaike Jones is one of the league's top playmakers.
Pocahontas at NEWPORT (20): Pocahontas had a TD negated by penalty in last week's 14-point loss to Gosnell. QB Jacob Thielemier (262 yards passing and two TDs a week ago) gives the Redskins a passing threat. Newport junior running back/cornerback Artez Brown should be one of the top recruits in the state next season.
Valley View at GOSNELL (11): Valley View's confidence came back to reality after last week's 35-0 loss at Newport. Gosnell QB Isiah Love provides a passing threat for a ground-oriented offense.
4-4A
BOONEVILLE (17) at Pottsville: Booneville's potent offense (44 points per game) flashed another dimension with a passing attack last week when junior QB Brock May threw three TD passes in a 21-point win over Subiaco Academy. Pottsville must cut down on turnovers (eight against Dardanelle).
Clarksville at WEST FORK (2): These are two of the six teams tied for second in the league. Clarksville playmaker Wesleigh Foster gained 205 total yards against Ozark.
DARDANELLE (12) at Subiaco Academy: Dardanelle's D forced eight turnovers in last week's 14-7 win over Pottsville, with senior linebacker Rowdy Bartlett collecting 13 tackles, forcing/recovering a fumble and an interception.
Ozark at DOVER (3): Ozark's Christian Coody tallied 297 all-purpose yards at Clarksville last week. Dover was stopped on the goal line on fourth down in overtime at West Fork last week.
7-4A
Malvern at ASHDOWN (7): A battle of unbeaten league teams. Malvern running back Dontail Henson has rushed for 223 yards and six TDs the past two weeks. Unbeaten Ashdown averages 39 points per game.
Mena at DEQUEEN (21): Mena feels confident after playing Nashville to a 17-17 tie in the first half last week. DeQueen hung 63 points on Mena last season, the most points they've scored in a game in more than a decade.
NASHVILLE (17) at Pulaski Oak Grove: Nashville endured a letdown in the first half against Mena last week, but responded with 35 points in the second half. Pulaski Oak Grove sophomore running back Eric Parks ran for more than 100 yards against DeQueen.
Waldron at ARKADELPHIA (10): Both teams seek their first league victory. Arkadelphia has been outscored by an average of nine points per game this year, while Waldron has been outscored by an average of 22 points per game.
8-4A
MCGEHEE (16) at Lake Village: McGehee plays hard, but the Owls can't afford any injuries with 25 players on the roster. Lake Village was shutout at Fordyce last week, and the Beavers have been outscored 91-6 in two conference games.
DOLLARWAY (1) at Fordyce: Winless Dollarway features big linemen, which could cause problems for the undersized Redbugs. The Cardinals' two league losses are against Warren and Dumas. Fordyce began 8-4A play with a 2-0 record last season before losing to Dollarway by 13 points. The Redbugs face the Cardinals, Warren and Dumas the next three weeks.
STAR CITY (3) at Hamburg: Hamburg has scored just 12 points in its two conference setbacks. Star City was tied with Warren 19-19 at halftime last week but didn't score in the second half.
WARREN (2) at Dumas: Hootens.com Game of the Week. Dumas has given up 30 points this year, the best in Class 4A.
