No. 6 Batesville at No. 8 Forrest City
It's only Week 6, but this could be for the 5A East title. Batesville won the 2005 league title and finished runner-up the past three seasons. Forrest City's last league crown came in 1987, when the Mustangs tied Jonesboro. They haven't won an outright conference title since 1985.
Forrest City positioned itself by knocking off Greene County Tech and West Helena by a combined 12 points the past two weeks. Senior quarterback Barrett Astin has passed for 850 yards this year while junior tailback Theodis Goodwin has rushed for 680 yards. Senior receiver Larry Rogers and junior Davyon McKinney are playmakers and college recruits, Coach Rich Trail said.
Batesville features first-year starters at 20 of 22 positions. Junior running back/linebacker/special teams standout Justin Smithee "is one of our best players in every area," Batesville coach Dave King says. Senior QB Kraig Kelley throws the ball well, although some blowout wins and bad weather tempers his stats. Junior receiver/safety Matthew Showalter returned from a shoulder injury last week, scoring on a reverse after fumbling twice on special teams.
LAST WEEK

5A EAST
BATESVILLE (3) at Forrest City: Hootens.com Game of the Week. Batesville led the Mustangs 12-7 at halftime last season before pulling away by 17 points.
Greene Co. Tech at BLYTHEVILLE (3): Blytheville rushed for 474 yards in last week's 46-0 win over Nettleton. Greene County Tech uses playmaker Standrick Williams as a key running back and receiver. The senior also fuels the "Wild Eagle" attack by taking direct snaps.
WEST HELENA (10) at Wynne: Wynne's offense gets a lift from the return of running back Okoye Oring, who missed time with injuries. West Helena turned the ball over nine times in last week's four-point loss to Forrest City.
Nettleton at PARAGOULD (7): Nettleton has been outscored 131-0 in three consecutive losses. The Raiders gained just 140 total yards in last week's 46-point setback at Blytheville. Paragould junior QB Chance Sugg accounted for 286 total yards and three TDs a week ago at Batesville.
5A SOUTHEAST
Beebe at MONTICELLO (18): This game decided the league title last season. Monticello QB/linebacker Joe Carmical and wingback/safety Brishen Mathews form the most explosive tandem in Class 5A. Beebe has won consecutive league games after starting 0-3. Badger fullback Adam Griffis grinds out tough yards between the tackles.
CROSSETT (3) at Sylvan Hills: Neither team has won a conference game. Crossett lost to Beebe 18-12 in double overtime in Week 4 and 20-13 to White Hall in overtime a week ago. Sylvan Hills played its best game of the year but still lost to Mills last week.
MILLS (14) at LR McClellan: Mills must win to stay in playoff contention. The Comets average 21 points per game, while Little Rock McClellan gives up 38 points weekly.
North Pulaski at WHITE HALL (21): White Hall escaped Crossett 20-13 in overtime a week ago. The Bulldogs beat North Pulaski 31-17 a year ago, but they can't look ahead to next week's showdown with undefeated Monticello.
5A SOUTHWEST
HS Lakeside at PULASKI ACADEMY (16): Pulaski Academy's 40-30 come-from-behind victory at Camden Fairview didn't draw as much publicity as the Bruins punt in the first half (first punt since 2007). Bruin QB Wil Nicks has passed for 1,793 yards and 17 TDs this season.
LR CHRISTIAN (6) at Hot Springs: Michael Dyer had eight runs of at least 15 yards in last week's 34-19 win over Pulaski Robinson. Hot Springs led Hope 24-18 at halftime last week but lost 31-24.
MAGNOLIA (3) at Camden Fairview: This rivalry game usually goes down to the wire. Magnolia has won three of the past four over the Cardinals by a total of eight points. Panther running back L.J. Berry rushed for 178 yards and four TDs in last week's 34-17 win over HS Lakeside. Camden Fairview led Pulaski Academy 24-7 at halftime last week.
Pulaski Robinson at HOPE (7): Hope has won three straight games since starting the year 0-2. The Bobcats scored a pair of third quarter TDs in last week's 31-24 win at Hot Springs. Pulaski Robinson committed three turnovers last week at LR Christian.
5A WEST
Greenbrier at GREENWOOD (21): The 5A West game of the Week. Greenbrier seeks its first playoff berth since 1995. The Panther D held CAC to 106 yards last week. Top-ranked Greenwood has won four straight games, and the Bulldogs led Harrison 49-14 at halftime last week.
Harrison at CAC (2): CAC's anemic offense (one first down in the first half against Greenbrier) should have more success against Harrison, which gives up 27 points weekly. Harrison gained 494 yards against Greenwood.
SILOAM SPRINGS (4) at Morrilton: Siloam Springs QB Bryan Adair passed for 226 yards in last week's overtime loss to Vilonia. Morrilton's speed helps the Devil Dogs keep it close.
Vilonia at ALMA (7): A battle of unbeaten league teams. Both teams use physical linemen, although Alma's massive line towers over Vilonia and every other 5A West foe. QB Burke Broadfoot gives the Airedale One-Back offense an additional running threat.
