HOOTENS.COM GAME OF THE WEEK
No. 2 West Memphis at West Helena
The two best teams east of Little Rock in '08 have reloaded. West Memphis won its sixth consecutive conference title last season but was bounced from the playoffs by eventual state champion Lake Hamilton in the semis. West Helena doubled its win total from 2007, winning 12 games en route to the 5A East title and a trip to the state finals. This rivalry ended in a 14-14 tie last season. West Memphis enters after a courageous 42-34 victory over Pine Bluff. The Blue Devils trailed by 20 points twice, but scored 28 unanswered to win. Junior linebacker Stephon Austin (5-9, 180) recovered a fumble and raced 36 yards for a TD. Senior Phaison Boston (5-10, 195) scored on a 40-yard TD to tie the game, and junior Quinton Sparkman (5-9, 170) clinched it with a 39-yard TD run with 2:37 to play. West Helena opened with a 35-33 loss at Pulaski Academy but rebounded last week to beat Class 4A Marianna 46-20. West Helena junior Markeith Jacobs (5-11, 190) tossed a 75-yard TD to senior Jonathan Johnson (6-0, 170) on the first play last Friday. The Cougars led 33-0 before Marianna scored. Jacobs tossed four TDs in his first start at QB.

WEEK 3 GAMES (favored team in ALL CAPS followed by point spread)
6A EAST
WEST MEMPHIS (1) at West Helena: Game of the Week. These two tied 14-14 last year at West Memphis.
Mills at JACKSONVILLE (10): Jacksonville scored two fourth-quarter TDs to beat Vilonia by 10 last Friday. Class 5A Mills shutout LR Hall 28-0 last week.
MARION (8) at Dollarway: These two mirror each other with physical running attacks. Dollarway didn't play a preseason scrimmage game and its only regular season game was on Aug. 31.
Blytheville at JONESBORO (20): Jonesboro's explosive senior duo of C.J. Jones and Kowan Wright tallied four TDs last week at Class 5A Wynne. Blytheville won this matchup by 18 last season.
CABOT (35) at LR Hall: Hall gave up more than 200 yards rushing against Mills. Cabot runs wild.
McClellan at LR PARKVIEW (8): Parkview scored three TDs in a rain-soaked third quarter last week to win at Arkadelphia 27-14.
LR Fair at SEARCY (2): These two combined for a 1-19 record in 2008. Searcy averages 6.5 points per game. LR McClellan ended an eight-game losing skid, beating Fair 26-12 last Friday.
Mountain Home at BATESVILLE (2): Mountain Home's Chris Wenneberg exploded for four TDs in last week's 35-28 win over rival Harrison. It was the second straight seven-point victory by the Bombers.
6A SOUTH
Benton at CONWAY (14): Benton faced the mercy rule for the second straight week last Friday while improved Conway kept in close against FS Southside.
Magnolia at EL DORADO (7): Senior Clay Murphy scored every point last week in El Dorado's 19-18 win at Class 7A North Little Rock.
Lake Hamilton at PULASKI ACADEMY (2): Pulaski Academy won by 28 last year. Both teams went on to win state titles.
LR Fair at Searcy (2): Fair returns 22 starters and Searcy returns 17. Searcy won last year 22-6.
Warren at PINE BLUFF (6): Preseason No. 1 Pine Bluff has not shown the stamina to play four quarters but should muster the courage to outlast Class 4A Warren.
Sheridan at WHITE HALL (3): Sheridan produced a single field goal against Bryant but could capitalize on injury-plagued White Hall.
Texarkana at BRYANT (15): Bryant and running back Chris Rycraw should run past another 6A South foe. Texarkana did rally from a 24-point deficit to scare Texas High, though.
Camden Fairview at WATSON CHAPEL (10): Watson Chapel senior QB C.J. Branch completed three TD passes and ran for another in a blowout of White Hall.
