GAME OF THE WEEK
No. 5 Jonesboro at No. 2 West Memphis

6A East supremacy is on the line Friday as Jonesboro travels to West Memphis.  Jonesboro returned only three starters from a team that averaged 33 points a game last year, but senior quarterback C.J. Jones (5-8, 160) and senior Super Sonic team running back Kowan Wright (5-9, 165) spark an offense that averages 35 points per contest in 2009.  Wright torched Mountain Home's defense last week for 174 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries.  He also took a screen pass 45 yards untouched to the house.  Sophomore Moe Malugen (6-0, 180) tossed the TD pass to Wright.  Malugen passed for 96 yards and 2 TDs at Mountain Home.  The Hurricane defense has been equally impressive in 2009 by holding opponents to a TD per contest. Jonesboro hopes to reverse their last two meetings with the Blue Devils in which it was outscored 89-7 in two losses.

Like Jonesboro, West Memphis sits at 6-0; however, the Blue Devils faced tougher tests through six weeks. West Memphis handed Forrest City its only loss of 2009 in Week 1 and also beat Class 6A Pine Bluff.  Senior QB Robert Sorrell (6-2, 190) started the last five games of 2008 and threw for more than 500 yards and completed 62 percent of his passes.  Last week against Searcy, Sorrell completed seven of nine passes for 135 yards and two TDs in the Blue Devils 40-3 victory over Searcy.  Over the past two weeks, Sorrell completed 16 of 19 passes for 392 yards and six TDs.  Sophomore Cody Dauksch hauled in both TD passes from Sorrell.  Senior tailback Phaison Boston (5-10, 195) added a 39-yard TD scamper for the Blue Devils.  In conference play the Blue Devil defense allows six points per contest.  West Memphis has won 18 consecutive conference games.
