GAME OF THE WEEK
No. 3 Lake Hamilton at No. 1 El Dorado
Lake Hamilton beat El Dorado for the state title last year, and they meet again Friday for the 6A South championship. Decimated by injuries the past two weeks, Lake Hamilton beat Pine Bluff and Watson Chapel by a combined seven points. Against Pine Bluff, the Wolves stopped Sonic Super Team QB Claude Johnson on fourth-and-goal in the final minute to seal a four-point victory. Watson Chapel led at Lake Hamilton 12-3 and 35-20, but QB Benson Jordan rallied the Wolves with 15 late points to defeat the Wildcats 38-35. Jordan accounted for 371 yards and four touchdowns, including the game winner on a 10-yard scramble with 2:54 remaining. Jordan has accounted for 20 TDs, and the Wolves only loss was against Texarkana, Texas. Lake Hamilton beat El Dorado twice in 2008, 38-21 in the regular season and 42-28 in the finals.
Like Lake Hamilton, El Dorado has played close games with three wins by four points or less. Senior receiver/kicker Clay Murphy (5-11, 160) scored every point in El Dorado's 19-18 victory over North LR Week 2. The Wildcats took down Watson Chapel and Texarkana 36-32 and 14-13. Senior tailback James Ford (6-1, 215) rushed 17 times for 126 yards and two TDs in last week's 41-8 win over LR Fair. Junior QB Taylor Reed (6-2, 190) completed 10 of 18 passes for 214 yards and three TDs. El Dorado's defense surrenders 13 points per game in conference play. Lake Hamilton hangs 36 points weekly on opponents.
