HOOTENS.COM GAME OF THE WEEK
El Dorado at No. 5 North LR
North LR's defense didn't disappoint in last week's 32-7 triumph at Texarkana. Neither did defending 6A state runner-up El Dorado's special teams in a 30-14 win at Camden Fairview. Clay Murphy nailed three of five field goal attempts, including a 43-yarder, and two successful onside kicks for El Dorado. He also caught five passes for 93 yards. El Dorado ran the ball on its first 10 plays before junior Taylor Reed (6-2, 190), head coach Scott Reed's son, completed 16 of 30 passes for 227 yards and a touchdown in his first varsity start at quarterback. Texarkana totaled 93 yards against North LR and only scored on a blocked punt. North LR senior noseguard De'Arius Hudson (6-0, 330) and senior lockdown cornerback Deon Rhodes (5-10, 170) are two of the state's better players while kicker Logan Brussard matches Murphy's 50-yard range. North LR's offensive linemen changed from a 2- to 3-point stance just days before facing Texarkana. "We've got to establish the run against El Dorado," says North LR coach Brad Bolding. "We missed some scoring opportunities last week. On defense, we can't let Reed pick us apart. He's a conductor and playmaker. It'll be a good test for our secondary."

WEEK 1 PREDICTIONS (favored team in ALL CAPS followed by point spread)

BRYANT (35) at Sheridan: Hornets mercy-rule another 6A South member.
Sylvan Hills at CABOT (35): Mediocre Class 4A Malvern manhandled 5A Southeast member Sylvan Hills 31-7 last week.
Dardanelle at RUSSELLVILLE (38): Russellville won 36-0 last year during downpour at Dardanelle. It gets mercy rule plus big gate with better weather this Friday.

Van Buren at FS NORTHSIDE (14): Van Buren must regain focus after emotional, turnover-filled tie with rival Alma to have a shot against high-flying FS Northside.
FS SOUTHSIDE (10) at Conway: No surprise Conway is improved. The Wampus Cats trailed defending state champ Bentonville 14-0 at halftime last week before losing 42-0. The Tigers mercy-ruled Conway early in last year's 42-3 decision.
7A WEST
HAR-BER (35) at Alma: Har-Ber scored four TDs in the first quarter last week and held explosive Class 5A Greenwood to 160 yards and scoreless. Sonic Super Team safety Houston Pruitt delivered nasty hits and took two snaps at QB in the Har-Ber Wildcat formation.

Jeff City, Mo. at FAYETTEVILLE (1): Fayetteville won by five in Missouri last year.
