Lonoke rolls past Star City 38-29
Lonoke forced seven turnovers, converting four into touchdowns and rolled by Star City 38-29 in the opening night of Simmons First/Hootens.com Kickoff Week at the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff in front of 12,133 fans.
Lonoke quarterback Loghan DeWhitt completed 11 of 18 passes for 250 yards and three touchdowns before leaving the game in the fourth quarter with an apparent shoulder injury. Jackrabbit junior linebacker T.J. Scott turned the game when he returned an interception 39 yards for a TD with 9:26 left in the second quarter. Sophomore safety D.J. Burton returned an interception 70 yards for another Lonoke TD with 3:57 left in the first half, giving the Jackrabbits a 26-6 advantage.
Star City mounted a furious rally with a pair of fourth-quarter TDs and a safety. Sophomore Rashod Davis blasted in from 3 yards out, cutting Lonoke's lead to 32-29 with 4:09 left. Facing a third-down deep in its own territory, Lonoke sophomore Eric Williams sped up the middle for an 83-yard TD run that set the final margin at 38-29.
