Class 2A No. 7 Conway Christian at No. 3 Clinton
Clinton last week won its third straight Battle for the Little Red against Class 4A Heber Springs. The 36-34 decision featured four lead changes in the fourth quarter, the decisive one coming when junior QB Weston Amos connected with classmate Austin Drake for a score on the game's final play. Amos threw four TDs against Heber Springs and ran for two more. Drake caught five passes for 190 yards and three TDs.
Conway Christian last week stormed to a 36-0 lead at Spring Hill and won 41-6. Senior QB Jacob Wood completed 13 of 18 passes for 218 yards and four TDs to three receivers. Senior receiver Nick Scherry snagged five passes for 72 yards and two scores, and Brandon Shaw collected four balls for 83 yards and a TD. Wyatt Lawrence zipped for 75 yards and two TDs on the ground. Conway Christian lost Week 0 to Class 4A Bauxite 49-9 in the Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield Kickoff Classic and Clinton presents similar matchup issues with a physical offensive line and deceptive team speed.

WEEK 2 PREDICTIONS (favored team in CAPS followed by point spread)
1-3A
Pottsville at BOONEVILLE (6): Booneville last week broke open a 42-20 win over Class 4A Ozark with three touchdowns in 38 seconds. Junior QB Evan Schlinker started against Ozark and completed all four passes for 82 yards and three scores. The Booneville defense limited Ozark to 13 yards rushing. Senior defensive lineman Noah Reyes had three sacks and forced one fumble. 
LAMAR (17) at Subiaco Academy: Lamar erased a 12-point second-half deficit last week to down Danville 19-18 for its fourth win in five tries in that series. Jacob Parmenter dashed for 84 yards for Lamar and caught a 38-yard TD pass from junior QB Ike Pelts.
MANSFIELD (7) at Lavaca: Mansfield seeks its first 3-0 start since 2008. Junior QB Ethan Stovall has completed 62 percent of his passes for 352 yards and four TDs, and he's rushed for 91 yards and five scores. Juniors Blayne Bryant and Jaicy Griffin pace Mansfield with 16 tackles apiece.
GREENLAND (3) at Mountainburg: Greenland surrendered 221 yards passing last week in a 48-28 loss to Class 4A Elkins. Mountainburg outlasted Cedarville but surrendered 437 yards.
Bigelow at CEDARVILLE (5): Cedarville averages 441 yards per week but lost last week to Class 2A Mountainburg 40-28 when two fourth-quarter drives stalled inside the 20-yard line. Senior fullback Tate LaRue rambled for 106 yards and a TD, and sophomore playmaker Kelin Mitchell zipped for 72 yards and two scores. Bigelow is 2-0 for the first time since 2012 when it went 9-1 in the regular season and finished second in the 5-2A.
Paris at WALDRON (6): Paris did not score last week against Class 5A Clarksville, and trailed 27-0 at halftime. It was Clarksville's first win in 10 outings. Paris has lost four straight games by a combined 83 points.
ELKINS (14) at West Fork: West Fork competed well a week ago in a loss to Class 4A Berryville, but the Tigers lost their 17th straight game. Xavier Hernandez returned a fumble for a TD, and Pearson Andrews tossed a scoring pass to Zac McKinzie for West Fork.
CHARLESTON is open.

Harding Academy at BALD KNOB (1): Class 4A Bald Knob seeks a third straight victory in this series. Harding Academy last week got a spark in a 49-31 win at Class 4A Highland from junior playmaker Connor McGaha, who caught nine passes for 199 yards. Senior all-league passer Davis Morgan completed 66 percent of his passes for 365 yards and two TDs. Harding Academy wins Friday night, if it elminates turnovers (three last week vs. Highland).
Cave City at MELBOURNE (21): Melbourne is 5-1 all time against Class 4A Cave City, including 48-19 conquest last year. Melbourne has won seven of its past eight home games, while Cave City has lost 12 consecutive games dating to 2016.
Rose Bud at CUTTER M. STAR (6): Rose Bud plays 2018 under its fifth coach in five years. The Ramblers return five all-league starters, but lack of depth limits its prospects.
SALEM (8) at Yellville-Summit: Class 2A Salem has won three straight in this series. Yellville-Summit eased past Class 4A Green Forest 14-7 last week, when it forced four turnovers. Y-S committed five turnovers. The game-winning TD pass covered 80 yards from QB Eli Cagle. 
HARRISBURG (6) at Cedar Ridge: Harrisburg last week lost for the fifth time in six meetings with Class 2A Cross County. Senior QB Jett Jackson passed for 209 yards and three TDs at Cross County. Junior wideout Ross Heeb collected seven passes for 100 yards and three TDs. Senior Jared Lindsey recorded eight tackles and 1.5 sacks. Cedar Ridge was shut out for the first time since 2012 (45-0 against Salem) in a 44-0 loss to Jessieville.
MAYFLOWER (24) at Marshall: Mayflower notched first-year coach Austin Emerson's first win last week, 59-35 over Class 4A CAC. Senior QB Dalton Muse calmed after throwing two first-quarter interceptions by completing two long TD passes to senior playmaker Keon Simmons, who also ran for three scores. Marshall was shut out for the first time since 2015 (33-0 at West Fork) in a 42-0 loss at Class 2A Hector.

NEWPORT (2) at Greene County Tech: Newport committed three turnovers in a seven-point setback last week at Class 4A Pottsville. The Greyhounds' final drive ended on an interception inside the Pottsville 15-yard line. Three Greyhounds handled multiple carries, led by junior Clemmie Alcorn's four totes for 51 yards and a TD.
OSCEOLA (1) at Gosnell: Osceola last week lost its fifth straight game to Class 5A Blytheville. Osceola senior QB Carl Miner fired a 12-yard TD pass to Greg Hooks, and Kam Turner ran for TDs of 2 yards and 45 yards. Class 4A Gosnell has won four of five meetings with Mississippi County rival Osceola but lost last year 29-28. Gosnell has advanced to the quarterfinals the past two seasons. Gosnell last week held Kennett, Mo., to 110 yards in a 24-8 win. 
Hoxie at JONESBORO WESTSIDE (6): Hoxie seeks its first 3-0 start since 2014 (started 6-0). The Mustangs last week turned away Trumann 31-28 after trailing 7-6 at halftime. Hoxie's defense stuffed Trumann on the goal line in the first half, and senior QB Chandler Spradlin added a 4-yard second-half TD run.
WALNUT RIDGE (18) at East Poinsett County: Last week Walnut Ridge blanked 3-2A member Marked Tree 44-0, the Bobcats' first shutout since 2016 (44-0 at Hoxie). Walnut Ridge rushed for 197 yards (7 yards per carry) against Marked Tree and finds similar success at EPC.
Piggott at BROOKLAND (8): Piggott plays its second straight game against a 3-4A team. Jonesboro Westside last week snapped Piggott's 10-game non-conference winning streak in a 37-16 conquest.
HARRISBURG (6) at Cedar Ridge: Harrisburg last week lost for the fifth time in six meetings to Class 2A Cross County. Senior QB Jett Jackson passed for 209 yards and three TDs at Cross County. Junior wideout Ross Heeb collected seven passes for 100 yards and three TDs. Senior Jared Lindsey recorded eight tackles and 1.5 sacks. Cedar Ridge was shut out for the first time since 2012 (45-0 against Salem) in a 44-0 loss to Jessieville.
Manila at MARKED TREE (1): Manila plays its second straight game against a 3-2A member after losing last week at East Poinsett County 42-36. Manila surrendered 253 rushing yards (6.2 YPC) last week to EPC, including 185 to junior Rayshon Gates. Class 2A Marked Tree last week lost 44-0 Walnut Ridge.
Corning at RECTOR (1): Clay County rivals meet for the first time since Class 2A Rector brought back varsity football in 2014. Corning owns the state's longest losing streak at 33 games following last week's 28-8 loss to Class 2A Brinkley, which had two TDs called back by penalties. Rector has not defeated a team on the field other than Midland since 2009 (did not play from 2010-2013).

4-3A
MAYFLOWER (24) at Marshall: Mayflower notched first-year coach Austin Emerson's first win last week, 59-35 over Class 4A CAC. BAUXITE (3) at Glen Rose: Class 4A Bauxite is 9-8 against Glen Rose since 2001, including a 23-22 conquest last season. In 2007, Bauxite handed eventual Class 3A state champion Glen Rose its only loss, 41-12 Week 10 at The Pit. Glen Rose last week erased a nine-point halftime deficit against Class 4A Malvern in a 12-9 victory. Senior running back and Landers Super Teamer Jay'Shawn Cox bulled 2 yards for a score, and junior QB J.T. Towers darted 31 yards for the game-winning score. Bauxite impressed many in its Week 0 rout of Class 2A power Conway Christian at the Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield Kickoff Classic, but it survived Class 2A Des Arc by one point last week at home. 
DANVILLE (2) at Dover: Danville last week lost a 12-point second-half lead to Lamar in a 19-18 loss. Senior running back Quentin Tolbert ran for 143 yards, including a 37-yard TD run, but the Little Johns failed on three extra-point conversions. Class 4A Dover lost 28-0 to Atkins and surrendered two defensive scores. 
ATKINS (12) at Magnet Cove: Atkins last week recorded its first shutout since 2017 in a 28-0 victory over Class 4A Dover. It was the first shutout for the Red Devils against an opponent other than Two Rivers since 2011 (22-0 at Lavaca). Atkins has rushed for 390 yards (6.6 YPC) this season, paced by senior playmaker Gage Rehm's 135 yards and two TDs. 
MOUNT IDA (10) at Jessieville: Class 2A power Mount Ida has won three straight against Jessieville by a combined 51 points. Jessieville last week blanked Cedar Ridge 44-0, the Lions' first shutout since a 41-0 conquest last season at Bismarck. Freshman QB Carson Hair passed for 220 yards and three TDs with no turnovers at Cedar Ridge. Senior receiver Cage Glisson hauled in three passes for 147 yards and two scores.
HECTOR (14) at Perryville: Perryville last week lost to Perry County rival Bigelow 53-34. It was the most points Bigelow has scored since a 63-31 victory at Conway Christian Week 10 2011. 
Two Rivers at J.C. WESTSIDE (1): Two Rivers has lost 27 straight games since Week 4, 2015 (40-34 over Booneville), and the Gators have scored 23 points in their last 11 games (2.1 points per game).
Baptist Prep at CAC (14): Baptist Prep last week snapped a 22-game losing streak with a dramatic 35-29 win over Bismarck. Mitchell Leavitt connected with Jackson Leavitt for the game-winning 31-yard TD pass with 21 seconds remaining. CAC lost 59-35 at Mayflower, scoring just seven points in the first half while dropping eight passes. But CAC finished with more than 300 yards. CAC's Gentry Miller fired a TD pass to Garrett Overstreet, and Brock Hendricks ran for a 5-yard TD. CAC has won nine straight over Baptist Prep.

5-3A
MINERAL SPRINGS (8) at Fouke: Fouke plays this season under interim coach Trent Wilson following the retirement of Rick Barker (33-22 from 2013-2017). Wilson's Panthers turned away Class 2A Parkers Chapel 26-21 Week 0 in the Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield Kickoff Classic at Southern Arkansas University. Fouke ran for 234 yards (5.1 YPC) and forced three turnovers, including a 65-yard interception return for a TD by Gabe Parker. Class 2A Mineral Springs battles low numbers but has a surplus of team speed. The Hornets last week mauled Mountain Pine 41-12.
POYEN (2) at Bismarck: Bismarck has committed five turnovers in two weeks. Last week the Lions took a late 29-28 lead at Baptist Prep but the Eagles scored on a reverse pass with 20 seconds left in regulation to win 35-29. Junior QB James Kegley passed for a career-high 219 yards and three TDs at Baptist Prep and ran for 34 yards and another score. Senior Dylan Clayton has recorded 301 total yards and five TDs. 
Hampton at SMACKOVER (2): Hampton will forfeit this game. Hampton was beating Drew Central 22-6 early last week when the game was cancelled after a brawl in which 17 Hampton Bulldogs were ejected. The AAA upheld the ejections, leaving Hampton with seven eligible players for this week and no option but to forfeit to Smackover. Smackover beat the top two Class 2A teams in a span of five days last week. The Buckaroos won their second straight Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield Kickoff Classic at Southern Arkansas University with a resounding 45-24 win over defending state champion Foreman. Senior running back Greg Turner carried 15 times for 205 yards and five scores against Foreman. Last Saturday, Smackover juked Junction City 40-20 with Turner out due to eligibility concerns. Dettravon Crockett sprinted for 104 yards and four TDs in Turner's absence.
Genoa Central at LAFAYETTE COUNTY (1): Genoa Central has won the past two meetings, including 41-27 a year ago. Class 2A Gurdon shut out Genoa Central 35-0, the first time the Dragons were scoreless since 2016 (14-0 loss at Fouke). Genoa Central rushed 24 times for 17 yards last week (.7 YPC). 
Murfreesboro at HORATIO (14): Horatio has won three straight in this series including 42-6 in 2017. Horatio last week mauled Class 2A Dierks 39-6 after leading 32-0. Hunter Griffin (51- and 4-yard TD runs), Trey Pickett (1- and 2-yard TD runs), Kelton Turner (16-yard TD run) and Tanner Short (45-yard TD run) scored for Horatio. The Lions ran for 238 yards and punted just once. 
C. HARMONY GROVE (8) at Fordyce: Camden Harmony Grove last week got TDs from Damion Daniel, Shaun Lucas and Xaylon Falls in a 22-14 win over Class 2A Bearden, its fourth straight victory in the battle for the Bill Manning Trophy. Senior linebacker/QB Gannon Bearden has amassed 26 tackles in two weeks, and sophomore Mecca Arnold has racked up 23 stops. Fordyce, with plenty of skill players but few linemen, lost last week 34-6 at Rison after trailing 14-6 at halftime. The Redbugs never got closer than the Rison 32-yard line after halftime.

McGehee at DUMAS (4): Class 4A Dumas has won three straight in this series, including 22-20 last fall. McGehee surrendered scoring runs of 34, 35 and 85 yards to Class 5A Magnolia's Kadyn Roach, a Louisiana-Monroe commit, two weeks ago in a 27-16 loss. The Owls have started 0-2 twice since 2004 (2004 and 2015). 
LAKE VILLAGE (8) at Strong: Lake Village won last week 37-13 at Greenville (Miss.) Christian (1-2 overall). Senior QB Aarion Kilgore passed for a TD and ran for a score in that game. 
Brinkley at RISON (19): Class 2A Brinkley won its second consecutive game last week, 28-8 at Corning. It's the first winning streak for Brinkley since 2015. Rison dominated the second half last week against Class 2A Fordyce, outscoring the Redbugs 20-0 after the break. Rison got TDs from five players against Fordyce and ran for 381 yards. Senior running back and Arkansas commit Malik Chavis ran seven times for 119 yards and a TD. 
Dollarway at FORREST CITY (18): Dollarway brings a 15-game losing streak into this game. The Cardinals managed just 59 yards of offense in a 55-0 Week 0 loss to Class 5A McClellan. 
BARTON (6) at Earle: Barton plays its opener after sitting out Week 0, and Class 2A Marvell cancelled its scheduled game Week 1 with Barton. The Bears will dress 29 players at Class 2A Earle, including seven returning defensive starters. Class 2A Earle advanced to the quarterfinals or better five of the past seven seasons with semifinal runs in 2013, 2014 and 2017.
Marvell at PALESTINE-WHEATLEY (24): P-W has won four straight games against Marvell, including 50-0 last season. Class 2A Marvell cancelled its game last week against Barton due to low numbers. P-W last week led Class 2A Clarendon 28-7 at halftime of a 42-7 victory.
