No. 1 Junction City at No. 3 Rison
Junction City lost 14-7 last week in a monsoon at Class 3A No. 5 Earle. Junction City sophomore Jaqwis Dancy rushed for 134 yards and the TD on 24 carries. Junction managed 166 total yards, 134 in the first half before conditions deteriorated. Dancy paced the 7-0 Junction City junior high team in 2011. While Junction City is known for its Wishbone ground attack, senior QB Shaq Hunter has seven capable receivers this fall. Shorthanded Rison could not slow down rival and Class 3A No. 8 Fordyce last week in a 45-15 loss. Fordyce passed for 212 yards and three TDs. Rison managed 124 yards, all rushing, with senior Will Clifton leading the linemen at right tackle.

Rison played in Class 3A the past six years. The Wildcats won the old 8-2A from 2002-2005, when Junction City ruled the former 7-2A East. Rison and Junction City tied for the 7-2A East title in 2000, but Rison won the head-to-head matchup. Junction City won 7-2A East titles in 1998 and 1999. Rison won state titles in 1950, 1970, 1982, 1990, 1991, 1995, 2000 and 2004. Junction City won state titles in 2003, 2008 and 2009. Junction City defeated Rison in the 2003 semifinals. Rison beat Junction City in the 2004 semifinals.

CROSS COUNTY (12) at Brinkley: Cross County dropped a TD pass last week in a 0-0 tie with rival (Class 3A) Harrisburg that was called off at halftime. Bad weather led to five delays and less than 50 yards total offense for each team. New 3-4A member Brookland manhandled Brinkley up front and won 42-14.
AUGUSTA (35) at Marvell: Augusta mauled Marvell 60-0 a year ago.
McCrory at HAZEN (9): Carlisle had success running at McCrory early last week before the game was called due to weather before halftime. Hazen bullied Augusta 36-18 last week with Augusta scoring twice in the fourth quarter.
Cedar Ridge at CLARENDON (1): Clarendon scored six points last week vs. Marked Tree, while Cedar Ridge did not score in a 28-0 loss to Class 3A Riverview.
Manila at E. POINSETT COUNTY (35): EPC notched first win ever or Class 3A Rivercrest last week 29-27 at Lepanto.
Marked Tree at HARRISBURG (1): Marked Tree RB Darius Ivy ran for three TDs, and the Indians recovered three fumbles in the first half last week of a 36-6 win over Clarendon.
SALEM (1) at Yellville-Summit: Salem takes down 1-3A favorite Yellville-Summit for second year in a row. Y-S beat Class 3A No. 40 Piggott 13-7 last week.
DeWitt at WALNUT RIDGE (2): Walnut Ridge knocked off Class 3A Corning 33-30 last week. 8-4A member DeWitt just lost to 3A Barton for the third year in a row by a combined margin of 73 points.

4-2A
Union Christian at MOUNTAINBURG (12): New-and-improved 4-3A member Cedarville avenged a 30-0 loss to Mountainburg last year with a 48-20 victory last week. Cedarville led 34-6 at halftime and held Mountainburg to 69 rushing yards for the game.
Hector at HACKETT (35): No. 15 Hackett took advantage of a glut of turnovers and sloppy play last week to ax England 45-14. Hackett newcomer Tanner Sweeten caught five passes for 136 yards and three TDs. Two Rivers dumped Hector 38-8 last week.
MAGAZINE (6) at Quitman: Good news for Magazine: Its opening 35-0 loss came to new 1-3A favorite Greenland. Magazine will not see a team in the 4-2A with Greenland's linemen or defensive team speed. Bad news: Quitman runs the same offense as Greenland.
J.C. WESTSIDE (30) at Western Yell County: J.C. Westside won this matchup 50-0 last year.
DECATUR (12) at Hartford: Decatur defeated Hartford 37-19 for its lone victory in 2011. A week ago, the Cedarville JV whipped Hartford 38-6.

5-2A
MAGAZINE (6) at Quitman: Good news for Magazine: Its opening 35-0 loss came to new 1-3A favorite Greenland. Magazine will not see a team in the 4-2A with Greenland's linemen or defensive team speed. Bad news: Quitman runs the same offense as Greenland.
Centerpoint at MAGNET COVE (8): Dierks outscored Centerpoint 45-41 last week. Magnet Cove lost at Parkers Chapel 32-13.
Mount Ida at JESSIEVILLE (6): Mount Ida shut out former league foe Spring 20-0 last week. Jessieville comes off short week after playing postponed Week 1 game Monday night against Mountain Pine.
Bigelow at ATKINS (12): Bigelow finally beat 3A rival Perryville last week for first time since 2006, but Class 4A Atkins has offensive firepower triggered by senior QB Ty Ennis (193 passing yards and five TDs last week vs Dover).
Conway Christian at CEDARVILLE (21): Conway Christian, known for its offense, turned back Episcopal 23-12 last week. New-and-improved 4-3A member Cedarville avenged a 30-0 loss to Mountainburg last year with a 48-20 victory last week. Cedarville led 34-6 at halftime and held Mountainburg to 69 rushing yards for the game.
Mountain Pine at CARLISLE (28): No. 4 Carlisle not happy to still be 0-0 after its game at McCrory was called before halftime last week. Bison were running on McCrory when the game was delayed, and they should pick up where they left off against Mountain Pine.
Poyen at TWO RIVERS (13): New 5-3A member Two Rivers looked good passing the football in the preseason and again last week in a 38-8 win at Hector.
PERRYVILLE (2) at Cutter M Star: Cutter Morning Star defeated Western Yell County 42-0 last week. Three of Cutter's four wins since 2010 have come against WYC.

6-2A
Mountain Pine at CARLISLE (28): No. 4 Carlisle not happy to still be 0-0 after its game at McCrory was called before halftime last week. Bison were running on McCrory when the game was delayed, and they should pick up where they left off against Mountain Pine.
Episcopal at ENGLAND (5): England committed a dozen turnovers last week at Hackett and lost about half of them. The Lions clean things up enough to beat Class 3A No. 44 Episcopal.
McCrory at HAZEN (9): Carlisle had success running at McCrory early last week before the game was called due to weather before halftime. Hazen bullied Augusta 36-18 last week with Augusta scoring twice in the fourth quarter.
Des Arc at BARTON (19): Missing key starters, Des Arc still rolled over Woodlawn 40-8 last week. The competition steps up this week at Class 3A No. 21 Barton, where freshman Cameron Anderson ran three times for 100 yards and a TD against DeWitt.
Cedar Ridge at CLARENDON (1): Clarendon scored six points last week vs. Marked Tree. Cedar Ridge did not score in a 28-0 loss to Class 3A Riverview.

PALESTINE-WHEATLEY (2) at Drew Central: Palestine lost to 1-3A Melbourne 28-12 last week, while Drew Central did not play. Drew Central has lost 14 games in a row.
AUGUSTA (35) at Marvell: Augusta mauled Marvell 60-0 a year ago. Marvell owns a 16-game losing streak.

7-2A
Genoa Central at LAFAYETTE COUNTY (6): Lafayette County won twice last year with one of those victories coming against Genoa Central 28-6.
Murfreesboro at HORATIO (4): Horatio new coach Mark King 1-0 after the Lions whipped Lafayette County 40-2 last week. Horatio beat Murfreesboro 44-16 a year ago.
MINERAL SPRINGS (10) at Danville: No. 10 Mineral Springs torched 6-3A member Fouke 42-7 last week, while 4-3A member Danville fell hard to its 4A rival Dardanelle 33-0.
Bismarck at DIERKS (11): Expect a shootout. Dierks outscored 5-3A member Centerpoint 45-41 last week, while Murfreesboro beat Bismarck 52-30.
PRESCOTT (28) at Spring Hill: New Prescott coach Tommy Poole gets his first victory at Prescott at the expense of his old team, Spring Hill. Poole coached Spring Hill for a decade. Spring Hill did not scratch last week in a 20-0 loss at Mount Ida.
Fouke at FOREMAN (2): Foreman ended 11-game losing skid last week with a 35-21 upset of Class 3A Genoa Central.
B. Harmony Grove at GURDON (12): Khaalid Stewart (15 tackles) and William Glass (17 tackles) paced Gurdon's speedy defense that stiffened last week in the second half of a 40-34 win over rival and Class 3A Prescott. Gurdon defeated Prescott for the first time since 2007 (18-8 at Prescott).

8-2A
JUNCTION CITY (3) at Rison: See 2A Game of the Week.
Strong at SMACKOVER (6): Big rivalry game in Union County. Strong led 8-4A member Lake Village 32-8 in the fourth quarter last week and won 32-24. Junior Tevion Hicks intercepted a pass and made key open-field tackles. Strong rolled up 240 rushing yards.
Hampton at BEARDEN (6): Class 3A No. 11 Camden Harmony Grove took it to Bearden last week in a 34-6 rout. Bearden managed just 84 total yards. Hampton did not play Drew Central last week as originally scheduled.
Woodlawn at NORPHLET (8): No. 17 Norphlet's low numbers don't keep the Leopards from scrapping. They hung with Class 3A Smackover for a half last week before losing 28-8.
PARKERS CHAPEL (28) at Hermitage: After one week, No. 11 Parkers Chapel not only looks like a playoff team but a contender for the 8-2A title. The Trojans whipped Magnet Cove 32-19 and should roll at Hermitage. Hermitage handed Marvell its 16 straight loss last week.
