HOOTENS.COM GAME OF THE WEEK
No. 18 Mansfield at No. 15 Greenland
Mansfield last won at Greenland 31-0 in 2009. A year later, these teams split their two meetings (Greenland won 40-14 in Week 2 and Mansfield won 24-7 in the second round of the playoffs). Greenland beat the Tigers 42-13 last fall.
Greenland senior quarterback Darian Froud threw a 35-yard touchdown pass and ran 55 and 50 yards for scores in last week's 35-0 win over Magazine. Junior tailback Calvin Giddens ran 4 and 45 yards for TDs. Senior Evan Johnson, a three-year starter at cornerback, blocked well at receiver, coach Lee Larkan says. Senior right tackle Tyler McClanahan (6-2, 220) anchors the Pirates' senior-laden line. "They have a veteran team and are explosive on offense," Mansfield coach Jason Gill says. "We have to contain them and keep the ball away from them."
Mansfield rolled up 346 yards rushing in last week's 47-7 win over Waldron. Senior running back Timmy Snider finished with seven carries for a game-high 127 yards and two TDs. Sophomore RB Jeffery Bartlett raced 60 yards for a TD on Mansfield's first play. Senior linemen Traye Stokes (6-2, 250) and C.J. Elmore (5-10, 265) pave the way for the Tigers. "They're a smashmouth football team that makes you play a certain way," Larkan says. "The question is, are we going to be physical enough to handle them."
