HOOTENS.COM GAME OF THE WEEK
No. 10 Benton at No. 7 Jacksonville
Benton enters Week 2 coming off its best performance against Class 7A rival Bryant (lost 21-14) since last beating the Hornets in 2005. The Panthers generated 260 total yards with senior quarterback Dylan Harris completing 16 of 27 passes for 97 yards. Junior running back Wallace Foote rushed for 93 yards and a touchdown and caught three passes for 35 yards. "He's tough to bring down," Jacksonville coach Patrick Russell says. "Defensively, Benton's a lot better. They've got some motors out there who can run to the ball."
Jacksonville gave Rick Russell his first win as head coach last year with a 34-10 victory at Benton. The Red Devils scored 27 unanswered points after trailing 10-7 in the first quarter. Last week, Jacksonville gave up 378 yards rushing in a 34-13 loss at Cabot. Senior QB Terrell Brown (6-5, 215) completed 24 of 35 passes for 229 yards, including a 27-yard TD pass to junior Aaron Smith. Smith also returned an interception 99 yards for a TD. "Everybody knows Jacksonville has receivers and they are very athletic," Benton coach Scott Neathery says. "We're going to have to contain them and keep everything in front of us."
