HOOTENS.COM GAME OF THE WEEK
Class 5A No. 3 Batesville at No. 8 Searcy
Batesville has beaten Searcy eight of the past nine years. The Pioneers won last year's meeting 24-21 after Kenton Crawford returned an interception 57 yards for the game-winning touchdown with 2:36 left. Crawford, a junior, won the starting role at quarterback in the summer. He generated 127 yards and a TD in last week's 42-27 loss to Springdale. Senior tailback Joey Rodriguez rushed for 51 yards and three TDs.
First-year Searcy coach Jeromy Poole's fast-paced Spread meets a Batesville defense tailored this fall to stopping such attacks. Searcy started slow in last week's 38-13 win at Little Rock McClellan, struggling with turnovers and penalties. Senior QB Christian Reynolds scored three TDs, including two passes to senior receiver Jeffrey Oest. "We settled down in the second half," Poole says. "We only have three returning starters. I was proud of how hard out kids played."
