HOOTENS.COM GAME OF THE WEEK
Rivercrest at No. 8 Osceola

Rivercrest has won eight straight against Mississippi County rival Osceola and “it's all we've heard about,” Osceola coach Robert Hooks says. Rivercrest topped Osceola 28-25 a year ago in the de facto 3-3A title game. Rivercrest eventually won the Class 3A state title while Osceola advanced to the semifinals. Rivercrest features senior QB Demilon Brown and running back Kentavious Robinson. Brown, last year's Class 3A state final MVP, passed for 75 yards and a TD last week in a 24-14 win over Valley View. Robinson has rushed for 362 yards (10.6 yards per carry) this year with four scores. Against Valley View, he ran for 234 yards and two scores and snagged two passes for 50 yards.
Osceola led Class 4A Gosnell 27-8 last week in the third quarter but had to hold on for a 35-30 victory. The Seminoles could play two QBs this week because junior Kam Turner and senior Carl Miner have impressed the past two weeks. “Kam really sparked us Week 1 (26-21 loss at Blytheville),” Hooks says. “But last week, it was Carl's game. He made smart decisions and delivered the football when we needed it.”

WEEK 3 PREDICTIONS (favored team in CAPS followed by point spread)
1-3A
OZARK (2) at Charleston
: Charleston committed two costly turnovers two weeks ago in a 28-27 loss to Class 4A Dardanelle, and it averages just 2.8 yards per carry in 2018. Class 4A Ozark did not punt last week until the third quarter of a 29-point win over Clarksville.
GREENLAND (6) at Gentry: This is a rematch of last year's 76-71 Greenland win, the highest-scoring regulation game in Arkansas history. Greenland senior QB Levi Vaughn completes 74 percent of his passes this year for 230 yards and two TDs, and the Pirates average 5.4 yards per carry as a team.
West Fork at GREEN FOREST (3): Class 4A Elkins' 54-0 win over West Fork last week marked the sixth shutout for West Fork during its 18-game losing streak.
J.C. Westside at LAMAR (29): Lamar seeks its first 3-0 start since 2015, when it finished 10-3 and advanced to the quarterfinals. Last week Lamar wore out Class 4A Subiaco Academy in a 22-point win, highlighted by 378 total yards and zero turnovers.
Booneville, Cedarville, Paris and Mansfield are open.

2-3A
Cave City at MELBOURNE (21)
: Melbourne is 5-1 all time against Class 4A Cave City, including a 48-19 conquest last year. Melbourne has won seven of its past eight home games, while Cave City has lost 12 consecutive games dating to 2016.
CEDAR RIDGE (2) at Midland: Cedar Ridge is 4-0 all-time vs. Class 2A Midland, including a 40-6 victory in 2017. Opponents have outscored Cedar Ridge this year 79-0, and the Timberwolves have lost five of its last six games.
CLINTON (6) at CAC: Clinton crushed Class 4A CAC 35-0 last fall, the last shutout for the Yellow Jackets. Clinton senior John Riley Hinchey scored two first-half TDs in a 55-21 victory over Class 2A power Conway Christian.
Yellville-Summit at BERRYVILLE (8): Yellville-Summit (10 points per game this year) struggled to run the ball last week in a 52-6 loss against Class 2A Salem. The Panthers may lean on their playmaking receiving corps, led by senior receiver Cody Dobbs.
HARRISBURG (6) at Mountain View: Harrisburg last week recorded its first shutout since 2011 (8-0 at Riverview) in a 35-0 rout at Cedar Ridge. Mountain View competed well with Class 2A Magnet Cove Week 0 before all-league tailback Derek Burns left the game with an injury. Mountain View has lost five of its past six games.
HEBER SPRINGS (7) at Harding Academy: Class 4A Heber Springs has won four of the past seven meetings, including 35-14 a year ago. Harding last week trailed Class 4A Bald Knob by 18 points at halftime of a 21-19 loss. Junior receiver Connor McGaha snagged 10 passes last week for 86 yards against Bald Knob. Harding averages 5.4 YPC this season with seven TDs.
Marshall at QUITMAN (17): Opponents have outscored Marshall 95-8 this season. Isaac Ragland paces Marshall in passing (71 yards) and rushing (105 yards). Junior Brandon McCollum sparks the defense with nine tackles.
W. YELL COUNTY (10) at Rose Bud: Rose Bud has lost seven straight games dating to 2017, and opponents have outscored RB 97-18 this year. Class 2A Cutter Morning Star last week rushed for 342 yards (11.4 YPC) and six TDs against Rose Bud.

3-3A
Rivercrest at OSCEOLA (1)
: See Hootens.com Game of the Week.
E. POINSETT COUNTY (14) at Corning: Corning last week lost 15-14 to Clay County rival Class 2A Rector, the Bobcats' closest loss since 22-20 at Piggott Week 10, 2014. Class 2A EPC last week forced three Walnut Ridge turnovers in a 41-18 loss.
Lonoke at NEWPORT (7): Newport has won four straight meetings with Class 4A Lonoke, including 35-8 last season. The Greyhounds unleashed a punishing running attack with 354 yards (10.7 YPC) last week in a 60-28 win at Class 5A Greene County Tech. Junior Monquell Cox darted for 200 yards and five TDs while sophomore Tharon Davis added 125 yards. Senior linebacker Julius Clark racked up 10 tackles in the win.
Marvell at MANILA (10): Manila last week won its first road game since 2015 (36-29 at Piggott) in a 27-24 win at Class 2A Marked Tree. All-conference QB Layne Sims totaled 219 yards and three TDs at Marked Tree and defensive tackle David Keys returned a fumble for a score.
Rector at PIGGOTT (16): Piggott has won three straight against its Class 2A Clay County rival Rector by a combined 149 points. Piggott last week battered Class 4A Brookland with 405 yards (7.8 YPC) and six TDs and the Mohawks threw just one pass. Senior Gunner Shaw carried 26 times for 247 yards (9.5 YPC) and two scores.
WALNUT RIDGE (6) at Salem: Walnut Ridge's big offensive line wore down Class 2A East Poinsett County last week, scoring 15 points in the fourth quarter of a 41-18 victory. Walnut Ridge limited EPC to 212 yards and forced two turnovers.
Hoxie is open.

4-3A
Baptist Prep at CARLISLE (3)
: Class 2A Carlisle has won three of the past five meetings, but the teams have not met since 2005, a 26-16 Baptist Prep victory. Baptist Prep last week trailed Class 4A CAC just 14-6 in the second quarter of a 38-13 defeat. The Eagles are young in the secondary, but that may not be an issue against run-heavy Carlisle.
Waldron at DANVILLE (9): Danville last week downed Waldron's 4-4A league rival Dover 43-19. Danville got two TDs apiece from running back Quentin Tolbert, QB Preston Donnell and receiver Dalton Reagan. Waldron is 1-1 against Class 3A teams this year with a 54-28 win last week over Paris. Waldron ran 51 times last week for 435 yards (8.5 YPC) against Paris.
MAYFLOWER (17) at Parkers Chapel: This game was scheduled when Episcopal and Woodlawn elected this year to play 8-man football. Explosive Mayflower averages 56 points per game in its 2-0 start and has scored 50 points or more 11 of its past 14 games. Mayflower's defense, led by all-state playmaker Dylan Burnett, has surrendered two TDs or less nine times in the same span. Class 2A Parkers Chapel could find success throwing the ball against an unproved Mayflower secondary.
Fouke at GLEN ROSE (10): These teams met in the first round of the 2016 Class 3A playoffs, a 27-26 Glen Rose win en route to a semifinal appearance. Class 2A Mineral Springs last week shut out Fouke, the Panthers' first scoreless game since last October at Junction City (50-0). Junior QB Hunter Lansdell likely starts this week after serving a suspension last week. Glen Rose last week committed three first-half turnovers in a 28-16 loss to Class 4A Bauxite.
LAVACA (3) at Two Rivers: Two Rivers owns a 28-game losing streak (second-longest in Class 3A), and the Gators have scored two TDs or less in 23 of those games.
JESSIEVILLE (17) at Dierks: Jessieville competed well last week in a 21-6 loss to Class 2A power Mount Ida. A disciplined Jesieville defense surrenders just 10.5 points through two weeks. "We have a very young team that feels like they have something to prove," Coach T.J. Burk says. "They play extremely hard." Senior Jeffery Scott and juniors Aaron Murders and B.J. Holloway pace the Jessieville defense with eight tackles apiece.
Atkins and Perryville are open

5-3A
CENTERPOINT (1) at Mountain Pine
: Centerpoint two weeks ago averaged more than 8 yards per play in a 41-28 win at Class 2A Murfreesboro. The Knights have much talent at the skill positions but the offensive line must evolve.
Horatio at FOREMAN (42): Horatio has won seven of 10 in this series, but Class 2A Foreman has won the past two by a combined 89-7. Foreman coach Mark King coached Horatio to a 15-26 record from 2012-2015 before leaving for Foreman, where his Gators are 23-5 since 2016, including last season's Class 2A state title. Foreman league foe, Murfreesboro, last week downed Horatio 24-14 to snap a 12-game losing streak.
Hope at PRESCOTT (24): Prescott has beaten Class 5A Hope three of the past four meetings and 48-3 last fall. The Curley Wolves have allowed 14 points in wins over Lafayette County and Class 4A Mena. Prescott's defensive dominance continues this week.
Spring Hill at GENOA CENTRAL (2): Class 2A Spring Hill is 5-2-1 in this series. Genoa Central last week beat Class 2A Lafayette County 17-0 for its first shutout since 2016, a 35-0 win over Spring Hill.
Bismarck, Smackover and C. Harmony Grove are open

6-3A
Marianna at BARTON (17)
: Barton has won three of four against Class 2A Marianna. Barton last week lost at Class 2A Earle by 20 points, just its fourth non-conference loss since 2010 (21-4 record). Barton's backfield got a 29-yard TD run by fullback Kavein Davis (131 yards at Earle) and a 63-yard scoring sprint from sophomore Terran Williams (89 rushing yards). Barton extends its six-game home winning streak.
PALESTINE-WHEATLEY (14) at Brinkley: Palestine-Wheatley has won two straight in this series against Class 2A Brinkley, including 47-8 a year ago. Palestine-Wheatley last week rolled up 223 balanced yards (120 passing and 103 rushing) in a 42-7 win at Class 2A Clarendon and the Patriot defense limited the Lions to 47 total yards. Senior QB Jacob Swiney fired four TD passes at Clarendon.
Crossett at MCGEHEE (5): McGehee has won two straight against Class 4A Crossett, including 26-12 last year. The Owls are 0-2 this season for the first time since 2015 (finished 3-8).
D'ARBONNE WOODS (LA.) (2) at Drew Central: Drew Central likely plays this game short-handed due to suspensions from a fight two weeks ago against Class 2A Hampton. The Pirates have rushed for 120 yards on 22 carries (5.5 YPC) this season. D'Arbonne Woods is 0-2 this season, and opponents have outscored them 67-19.
WARREN (28) at Dollarway: Class 4A Warren has won three straight in this series, including 38-6 a year ago. Dollarway has lost 16 straight games dating to 2016. The Cardinals are 0-2 this season and opponents have outscored them 101-8. Dollarway averages just 1.7 YPC in 2018. Class 4A No. 1 Warren's game last week at Stuttgart was cancelled due to lightning. The Lumberjacks boast Arkansas commits Marcus Miller and Treylon Burks.
DUMAS (14) at Lake Village: Class 4A Dumas is 4-3-1 against Lake Village, but the teams have not played since 2009 (Dumas 52-6), the last time Lake Village started 2-0. Lake Village junior receiver Malakai Armour averages almost 19 yards per reception.
RISON (24) at Strong: Rison has won six straight against Class 2A Strong. Strong last week lost 20-6 to Rison league rival Lake Village. Rison senior playmaker Malik Chavis, an Arkansas recruit, rushed for 118 yards and a TD with four tackles last week against Brinkley.
