GAME OF THE WEEK
No. 2 McGehee at Class 4A No. 5 Crossett
McGehee piled up 388 total yards Week 1 in 47-22 win over DeWitt, led by senior FB Channing Woodson's 163 yards and two touchdowns on six carries. Last week, senior RB Jody Easter paced McGehee with 84 yards and a TD in 54-7 win over Class 4A Dumas. Woodson rushed for 70 yards and TD, while junior RB Tyrique Newman scored twice and gained 69 yards.  Class 4A No. 5 Crossett owns wins over Class 3A Osceola 33-28 and Class 5A Magnolia 15-3. Crossett senior QB Tyrique Jones has completed 18 of 31 passes this fall for 173 yards and three TDs, and he leads the Eagles with 195 rushing yards. 1-3A
No. 7 Charleston at Class 4A OZARK (6): Charleston coach Ricky May elated with his team’s defensive effort in 35-14 win last week over 4A Pottsville. Senior LB Ransom Merechka piled up 14 tackles and a fumble recovery. Sophomore DL Hunter Little contributed 12 tackles and a caused fumble. Junior WR Bryton Ketter ran for two TDs and recorded four touchbacks on kickoffs. Ozark won this game last year 54-21. Charleston’s last win in series (42-28) came in 2017. Ozark, which is huge up front, beat Class 5A Clarksville 14-13 in OT, but it lost last week to 3A Booneville 42-12.
Class 4A Berryville at GREENLAND (2): Greenland lost its only game so far, 49-14 to Elkins. Greenland senior OT Donovan Arellano and junior TB Seth Center played well in the loss. Winless in 2020, Berryville defeated West Fork 33-20 last week to end an eight-game losing streak. Greenland’s game with Danville last week was canceled. A year ago, Greenland won this matchup 50-28.
HACKETT (8) at Class 2A Mountainburg: Hackett defense played well in the Hornets' sixth straight win (46-18) over Panama, Okla. Sophomore Cole Ketchum returned an interception 75 yards for a TD, and kickoffs of 77 and 75 yards for TDs. All-state WR/DB Peyton Hester caught five passes for 69 yards and a TD. Hester added 10 total tackles, including three TFL. Mountainburg senior FB Gus Newton carried 23 times last week for a team-high 97 yards in a 35-0 loss to Class 3A Lavaca.
LAVACA (17) at Class 2A J.C. Westside: Lavaca equaled its 2020 win total with a 35-0 win last week over Mountainburg. Lavaca junior LB Eli Smithson and sophomore LB Camden Callahan led the defense. Juniors Spencer Giles and John Godinez stood out in the secondary. J.C. Westside (1-1) walloped Two Rivers 40-6 by rushing for 280 yards, including 134 yards and a TD from senior RB Dakota Beavers.
CEDARVILLE (20) at Mansfield: Both are members of the 1-3A, but this is a non-conference matchup. Mansfield and Cedarville play the designated league game Oct. 29 at Mansfield. Mansfield Tigers tired of hitting each other after two open dates. Cedarville dressed just 22 players last week for its 16-0 win over Green Forest. Four starters were out. Cedarville limited Green Forest to 80 total yards and intercepted three passes. Cendarville junior DB scored on pick-6, while senior RB Darryl Kattich gained 112 yards on 25 carries.
GREEN FOREST (1) at West Fork: This game was originally scheduled for Week 0. Class 4A Green Forest (0-1) did not allow a point in the second half of a 16-0 loss to Cedarville. West Fork is 0-2 with losses to Paris and Class 4A Berryville.
LINCOLN is open.

C. Harmony Grove at HARDING ACADEMY (14): CHG had Class 2A power Fordyce down late, but the Redbugs rallied to win 22-20. Harmony Grove wore down in the second half against Fordyce’s big lines. Senior LB Jermaine Edwards led CHG with 18 tackles, while Tobias Hicks contributed 13 stops. Harding Academy lost to Class 5A Valley View 31-30, but it rebounded last week to rout Heber Springs 42-7. Newport at Class 4A LONOKE (2): Hampered by covid quarantines earlier this season, Newport appears on track after its 18-13 win last week over Class 4A Bauxite. Lonoke slipped by Beebe 28-21 after routing Class 2A Carlisle 54-12 in Week 0. A year ago, Newport won this game 47-19. Watch extended highlights of Newport's season-opening loss to Prescott HERE.
MELBOURNE (45) at England: Class 2A England, with an 18-man roster, cancelled its game last week vs. Rison on Friday when a player had covid-like symptoms. Class 3A Melbourne lost to Class 4A Cave City 32-29 in a mild upset and frustrating loss for Melbourne.
Corning at SALEM (7): Corning handed new HC Farrell Shelton his first victory last week by rushing for 350 yards in a 20-6 win over Class 2A Yellville-Summit. Corning junior RB Landon Lucas carried 39 times for 180 yards. Senior DE Landon Barry recorded five TFL for a defense that forced three turnovers. The game was tied 6-6 when Corning faked a punt on fourth-and-9 and scored the go-ahead TD. Salem rolled over Class 4A Dover 50-8.  Junior QB Dakota Jackson completed six of eight passes for 191 yards and three TDs. Senior Jacob Earl rushed for 176 yards and two TDs. Seniors Tyler Siddons and Lucas Foster led the Salem defense.
Class 2A Quitman at MOUNTAIN VIEW (21): Quitman, idle last week, lost to Melbourne 51-12 Week 1. Mountain View whipped Class 2A Hector last week 39-7. Senior QB Elijah Carlton led Mountain View with 201 yards and three TDs on nine carries. Carlton also returned a punt 72 yards for a TD. Sophomore RB Levi Rorie added 79 yards, while senior C.J. Rose gained 61 yards and a TD. Junior LB Landon Goins led the MV defense with eight tackles and one sack. A year ago, Mountain View beat Quitman 32-12. 
RIVERVIEW (3) at Class 4A Blytheville: Chris Keylon’s Riverview  Raiders are one of the early success stories of 2021. Winless last year, Riverview owns wins over Class 4A CAC and Bald Knob. Riverview junior QB Koby Teeter produced on offense and defense, and senior DB Tyler Hill preserved the 17-14 win over Bald Knob with an interception. Riverview’s defense limited Bald Knob to 181 total yards. Blytheville was shut out by Class 3A Osceola 28-0, and by Nettleton 35-0.

Class 2A Marked Tree at Piggott (3): Piggott senior WR Hayden Emerson caught seven passes last week for 44 yards, and he rushed for 56 yards and two TDs in a 46-20 loss to Class 4A Highland. Piggott senior specialist Ethan Ralph rushed for 52 yards and returned a kickoff 72 yards for a TD. Marked Tree junior RB Willie Marshall carried 15 times for 165 yards in a 22-8 loss to Manila.

Class 4A GOSNELL (2) at Hoxie: This game was scheduled after Osceola cancelled with Gosnell and Jonesboro Westside cancelled with Hoxie last week. Both teams were originally open this week. Hoxie has defeated Cave City 46-28 and Mountain View 40-22. Gosnell dropped its opener to Brookland 7-6. Watch extended highlights of Hoxie's win over Cave City HERE.
OSCEOLA, HARRISBURG, WALNUT RIDGE, P-W and MANILA are open.

4-3A
BOONEVILLE (16) at Class 4A Mena: Booneville looks to go 3-0 against 4A competition. It beat Mena in 2020, 43-12. Both teams are unbeaten this fall. Booneville won its opener over Dardanelle 32-0, then whipped Ozark 43-12. Mena defeated De Queen 42-7, and Clarksville 34-14. Booneville won last year’s matchup 43-12.
Conway Christian at PERRYVILLE (29): Class 3A Perryville bounces back from a 35-8 loss to neighbor rival Bigelow. Perryville managed one first down and allowed six sacks. Look for juniors WR/DB Daryn Hubbard and WR Matt Roberts to return this week after missing the first two games with health issues. Conway Christian junior QB Cooper Johnson carried 20 times for 109 yards in a 44-0 loss at Class 3A Atkins. Perryville won this matchup last season 45-18.
Class 4A Waldron at ATKINS (1): A year ago, Atkins won five of its first six games, the loss being 32-6 to Waldron. Atkins is 2-0 this fall after beating Conway Christian 44-0. Waldron is 0-2, losing last week to Gore, Okla. 51-6. Waldron has been limited in practice the past two weeks, and nine players were out Monday with injuries or in quarantined. Again Conway Christian, senior RB Reese Bixler rushed for 90 yards and a TD. He also led defense with 12 tackles. Senior QB Zach Berkemeyer completed 14 of 18 passes for 166 yards and three TDs. Junior specialist Devin Roberts scored on a 66-yard punt return.
Class 2A HECTOR (3) at Danville: Hector sophomore QB Jackson Taylor completed 15 of 26 passes last week for 126 yards and a TD with one INT in a 39-7 loss to Mountain View. Senior Drake Riley caught eight of those passes for 85 yards and a TD. Danville's game at Greenland was cancelled. The Little Johns, who topped Mount Ida 49-47 Week 0, are healthy again. Danville has lost 10 of its past 11 games.
Class 2A MCCRORY (14) at Baptist Prep: Class 2A No. 2 McCrory led Clarendon start to finish last week and won 34-26. McCrory senior QB Cason Campbell passed for 100 yards, ran for 67 yards and scored two TDs. Senior RB Reid Kennon ran for 111 yards and and two TDs. He caught passes for 73 yards and a TD. Class 3A Baptist Prep, idle last week, has shut out Class 2A Yellville-Summit and Conway Christian.
Mayflower at Class 4A CAC (3): This game was originally scheduled for Week 0, but postponed because of quarantined players. CAC won last week’s shootout with Class 2A Carlisle  55-46 despite giving up 423 rushing yards. Class 4A Fountain Lake ran roughshod over Mayflower 49-13. CAC is led by senior QB Tyler Williams.
PARIS and TWO RIVERS are open.

5-3A
No. 1 Prescott (21) at Class 5A Hope: Prescott has compiled incredible numbers in its first two wins. Prescott averages 53 points per game and allows just 6.5. Pescott senior RB Jaylen Hopson averages 19 yards per carry. Junior quarterback Carston Poole is completing 80 percent of his passes, while senior TE Caleb Harris, senior WR Jacaylon Zachery, and junior WR Omario Dickens have all scored multiple touchdowns. Improved Hope (0-3) averages more than 28 points per game, but it allows  nearly 47. Class 4A Ashdown beat Hope last week 49-27. Prescott was open after routing Newport and Class 2A Gurdon. Class 4A H. Grove Haskell at GLEN ROSE (6): H. Grove Haskell was tied 14-14 with sixth-ranked Centerpoint last week, but the Cardinals were outscored 27-0 in the second half. Glen Rose is 1-1 after losing to Class 4A Malvern (30-20) and beating Magnet Cove last week 53-7. GR senior WR/DB Conner Taylor scored four TDs vs. Magnet Cove on a 40-yard run, 50-yard reception, 65-yard punt return and 95-yard interception return. A year ago, Glen Rose won this matchup 42-20.
Class 2A Dierks at JESSIEVILLE (6): Dierks, idle last week, has lost to Class 3A Bismarck (48-7) and Horatio (25-21). Dierks took the lead over Horatio 21-19 in the third quarter, but the visiting Lions scored with two second left to win. Junior LB Eli Sharp paced Dierks with 12 tackles. Jessieville lost to Class 4A Harmony Grove Haskell 35-14 Week 1 and was idle last Friday when its game with Mount Ida was cancelled. A year ago, Dierks beat Jessieville 46-28.
Fouke at Class 5A DE QUEEN (2): Fouke senior QB Kye Monroe completed seven of 14 passes last week for 158 yards and two TDs, while running for 201 yards and two TDs in a 33-18 victory over Class 2A Mineral Springs. Senior WR/DB Dylan Thornton caught four passes for 84 yards and a TD. He also returned an interception for a TD. Senior LB Phenix Thomas piled up eight tackles. De Queen allowed 495 yards in a 42-27 loss to rival Nashville.
Class 2A Foreman at HORATIO (15): Foreman fell to 0-3 last week with a 28-16 loss to Westville, Okla. Foreman junior QB Hunter Fowler passed for 165 yards and two TDs in his season debut, while senior LB DeJames Powell and junior LB Hayden Ziegler combined for 30 tackles. Class 3A Horatio (3-0) sophomore QB Grayson Porter completed eight of 12 passes for 99 yards in 22-0 win over Murfreesboro. Senior RB Tony Ramirez rushed for 81 yards and a TD, while junior WR Jace Hankins caught four passes for 56 yards.
Lafayette County at GENOA CENTRAL (10): Game was originally scheduled for Sept. 10, but postponed because of quarantined players. Junior lineman Hilton Hackney recovered two fumbles and returned one for a touchdown Week 1 in Genoa Central’s win over Foreman. Hackney was credited with several pancake blocks in the offensive line. Senior Ryan Braden ran for a TD, and returned a fumble for a TD on defense. Genoa routed Foreman in Week 1, 50-22. Lafayette County has not played since Week 0 when it lost to Gurdon 60-18.
CENTERPOINT and BISMARCK are open.

6-3A

Drew Central at Class 5A WHITE HALL (35): Drew Central finally getting healthy with its starting center as the only player quarantined. Senior LB Parker Cruce led Drew Central last week with 10 tackles and a forced fumble in a 35-8 loss to Class 4A DeWitt. Junior LB Ian Strickland contributed seven tackles and a forced fumble in the 28-8 loss to Class 2A Poyen. White Hall is rolling early with lopsided wins over Warren (35-0) and Sheridan (41-0). Cross County at BARTON (5): CANCELLED Class 3A Barton, which has lost 17 straight games, is 0-2 this fall vs. Class 2A after a 34-22 loss to Clarendon and a 20-0 loss to Des Arc. Cross County, idle last week, gave up 29 completions for 323 yards and five TDs two weeks ago in a 62-18 loss to Hazen. Cross County senior RB Davie Powell, formerly of Class 3A Hoxie, played limited snaps at Hazen but scored a TD on just two touches.
RISON (7) at Class 4A Hamburg: Coaches schedule this game late after England canceled last week on Rison. Hamburg’s game last week with Forrest City also canceled. Class 4A Ashdown and Class 5A Camden Fairview beat Hamburg, 37-7 and 52-0, respectively. Rison opened the season with a tough loss to Fordyce 20-16, but it rebounded to beat Bald Knob 24-0.
