HOOTENS.COM GAME OF THE WEEK
No. 16 Star City at No. 4 Booneville

Star City first-year coach Jett Furneaux returns to Bearcat Stadium this week for the first time since the former Bulldog QB lost to the Bearcats 20-14 in overtime in the 1999 quarterfinals. Furneaux, who coordinated Star City's offense the past four years and previously assisted at Class 5A powerhouse Camden Fairview, oversees a unit this fall that throws the ball 30 times a game. Star City sophomore quarterback Tye Brown has passed for 630 yards this season, while junior running back Dajunn Harris paces the Bulldogs with 12 catches for almost 200 yards. Seven players have caught passes from Brown each of the past two weeks. Star City offensive/defensive tackle Austin Capps (6-4, 280) has a scholarship offer from Arkansas. Capps racked up eight tackles and two sacks in last week's 35-0 win over Camden Harmony Grove. Junior outside linebacker Darien Washington (nine tackles) and middle linebacker Cody Hampton (eight tackles, 2.5 sacks) anchor the middle of Star City's defense, while senior Austin Smith, in his first year at cornerback, has allowed just one reception. "They are fast and physical, but they are young," says Booneville coach Scott Hyatt, who is a Brown's cousin.

Undefeated Booneville applied the 35-point sportsmanship rule to rival Ozark and Gravette the past two weeks. Junior fullback Bryson May has rushed for 254 yards and four TDs this year, and returned a fumble for a TD playing linebacker. Senior QB Cody Harrel hasn't been asked to carry the ball much in the blowout victories. Junior halfback Matthew Berry has rushed for a pair of TDs and intercepted a pass at cornerback. The Bearcats held Gravette to 6 yards in the first half last week. Junior Justin Shackleford has 5.5 tackles for loss this fall. "This is the exact team we played last year (Star City won 34-28) except a year older," Furneaux says. "Their defense flies to the ball."
