HOOTENS.COM GAME OF THE WEEK
Class 5A Hot Springs at No. 9 Lake Hamilton
Lake Hamilton ripped Class 5A Hot Springs 42-7 a year ago and has won eight of 10 in this series. Physical Lake Hamilton has rushed 85 times for 756 yards (8.9 YPC) and 15 TDs so far this year, led by sophomores Tevin Woodley (252 yards rushing and seven scores) and Owen Miller (249 yards rushing and five TDs). Guards Jared Wilson, Jack Keeling and center Marcus Smith started 11 games last season and “we're as good up front as we've been since I've been here,” Lake Hamilton third-year coach Tommy Gilleran says. “They move and communicate well up front.” Lake Hamilton last week toppled Class 4A Malvern 63-34, amassing 22 first downs and rushing for 370 yards (9.3 YPC).
Hot Springs has allowed only 18 points this year and “that's the strength of their team,” Gilleran says. “They're better across the field and seem to be getting better each week.” Hot Springs led Mena 6-0 last week but allowed Mena to score the game's final 10 points. Hot Springs plays several players both ways and that costs it against a deeper Lake Hamilton outfit.
