HOOTENS.COM GAME OF THE WEEK
No. 13 Des Arc at No. 6 Hazen
Des Arc has won four of the past five in this series. Hazen won 12-6 in 2009 and 20-14 in 2004. Des Arc won 36-20 in 2008 and 8-6 in 2007. Junior all-state RB Matt Tenison leads Hazen this year with 42 tackles and 446 yards, including six carries for 129 yards and three TDs in the first half of last week's 42-12 rout of McCrory. Senior Marcus Smith racked up 107 return yards last week, including an 82-yard punt return for a TD. Smith returned an interception 45 yards for a TD. Junior QB Devin Bonds has rushed for 245 yards this season. Senior tackle Patrick Penn returned from a shoulder sprain to play last week. Senior DE Andrew Sayger rarely allows offenses to get outside him. Junior Cameron Vail recorded a team-high 16 tackles vs. McCrory. "That's probably the best we've played around here in a while," Hazen coach Joe Besancon said. "We we're hitting on all cylinders in all three phases of the game."

Des Arc counters with senior QB Justin Hollis (150 yards last week), including an 11-yard TD toss to playmaker Luke DeVorak in an 8-6 loss to 3A Harding Academy. Senior RB/SS Cody Robinson and junior LB Taylor Warren spearhead the Des Arc defense.

TV SHOW

LAST WEEK
Hooten's correctly picked 27 of 33 games (82 percent) involving Class 2A teams. HAFR is 83-25 (77 percent) for the season.

WEEK 4 PREDICTIONS (favored team in ALL CAPS followed by point spread)
3-2A
AUGUSTA (19) at Marked Tree: Augusta's 20 points in the opening loss to No. 5 Hazen looks better every week. The Red Devils big-played then-unbeaten Cross County 33-6 last week with senior RB Ishma Clark returning the opening kickoff 67 yards for a TD and running 72 yards for another TD.
SALEM (1) at Cedar Ridge: Third-year program Cedar Ridge closing the gap on 3-2A's older brothers. Marked Tree nipped Cedar Ridge 18-14 last week as time expired.
McCRORY (2) at Walnut Ridge: McCrory's super-sized offensive line (minus Jemar Clark w/shoulder surgery) paves way for victory. Walnut Ridge gave up 402 rushing yards last week in 54-35 loss at EPC.
Cross County at E. POINSETT COUNTY (2): Cross County failed to contain Augusta's Ishma Clark last week. This week, it must slow EPC QB Darius Barnes (354 yards and three TDs last week vs. Walnut Ridge). EPC has won two of the past three in the series.

4-2A
Western Yell at DANVILLE (42): Western Yell idle last week after retirement of Coach Phil Collins. Danville untested since its opening 35-28 win over Class 4A Dardanelle.
Decatur at HACKETT (10): Hackett posts first win of 2010.
MAGAZINE (21) at Union Christian: UC surprised a little last week by blowing out J.C. Westside 44-9 on the road. Magazine cannot look ahead to next week's showdown against No. 6 Danville.
MOUNTAINBURG (15) at J.C. Westside: Mountainburg defense has not allowed a point in nine quarters.
HARTFORD is open.

5-2A
Two Rivers at CONWAY CHRISTIAN (8): Two Rivers QB Lane Frost accounted for 143 yards and a TD last week in the Gators' 24-14 win over Hector. Conway Christian RB Bates Isom ran for 303 yards and four TDs in a 50-20 blowout of Cutter M. Star.
BIGELOW (10) at Poyen: Bigelow makes it two in a row.
MOUNTAIN PINE (8) at Quitman: Winless Mountain Pine desperate for a victory and finds one at winless Quitman. These teams lost by a combined 103-18 last week.
HECTOR (3) at Melbourne: Hector notches its first win since Week 3, 2008. Hector (did not field a team in 2009) ran 48 times last week for 196 yards in a 10-point loss to Two Rivers.
Magnet Cove at PARKERS CHAPEL (5): Non-conference throwdown. No. 8 Parkers Chapel opened the season with 22-14 win at Des Arc and has beaten winless Dermott and Hampton the past two weeks. Fourth-ranked Magnet Cove owns wins over Mount Ida (1-2), Mountain Pine (0-3) and Poyen (1-2). Parkers Chapel and Magnet Cove offensive lines playing well. Parkers Chapel rolled up 454 rushing yards last week vs. Hampton. Magnet Cove balanced in a blowout of Poyen.

6-2A
CARLISLE (35) at Marvell: After hard-fought, second-half losses to 4A Bauxite and 3A Barton, Carlisle cruises to a road victory.
CLARENDON (42) at Hughes: Clarendon, led by QB Jamarlin Jackson, beat Hughes 35-0 last year. Last week, the junior QB passed for 179 yards and ran for another 92 yards in a 54-15 rout of Drew Central.
Des Arc at HAZEN (8): See 2A Game of the Week.
ENGLAND (12) at Pal.-Wheatley: England improves to 3-1, takes first step toward possible playoff berth.

7-2A
Dierks at MURFREESBORO (7): Murfreesboro RB Brannon Buck back in a big way, running 24 times for 218 yards and two TDs last week in a 21-13 win over Centerpoint. Murfreesboro overcame 11 penalties and five turnovers. Dierks beat Centerpoint 34-20 in the season opener.
Gurdon at HORATIO (15): Horatio lost to a good Idabel, Okla., team last week 21-13. It cannot lose this week if it's going to push Spring Hill and Mineral Springs for a home playoff berth.
Mount Ida at MINERAL SPRINGS (16): Mineral Springs rolling with sophomore RB Rashad Williams rushing for more than 400 yards.
SPRING HILL (38) at Foreman: Spring Hill senior Rodrea Jones still the league's top 'back, rushing five times for 150 yards last week in a 56-0 gutting of Genoa Central. Senior Kellin Hamilton returned the opening kickoff 90 yards for a TD.

8-2A
Hampton at NORPHLET (14): Norphlet sophomore QB Mikey Tipton to senior receiver (and former QB) Darren Bowen a big-play combination.
Hermitage at JUNCTION CITY (56): Bearden beat Hermitage 66-0 last week. Junction City averages 345 yards and 33 ppg, while allowing 182 yards and 16.3 ppg.
Strong at BEARDEN (1): If Strong contains Bearden junior QB Defonta Lowe, it leaves Bearden with a win. Easier said than done. Lowe needed only nine carries (for 224 yards and a TD) to beat Woodlawn two weeks ago. Strong boasts an all-league QB in Kenneth Dixon (more than 500 yards), who owns breakaway speed by 8-2A standards.
WOODLAWN (27) at Dermott: Woodlawn grinds out first win after losses to quality opponents Horatio, Bearden and Junction City.
Hampton. Magnet Cove balanced in a blowout of Poyen
