No. 1 Magazine at No. 2 Danville
Magazine won both matchups in 2010, 28-24 in the regular season and 48-20 in the state title game. Senior twins (QB) Ryan and (WR) Cory Chambers fuel a Magazine offense that averages 435 yards and 49 points per game. Magazine has scored more than 40 points seven games in a row dating to the third round of the 2010 playoffs. Senior LB Josh Dority paces a defense that allows just 7.75 ppg. Danville counters with senior RB Sean Tyra (521 yards, seven TDs) and junior QB Dakota Long (6-2, 185) who has completed 19 of 31 passes for 352 yards and four TDs. Injuries have crippled Danville this fall, but starting left tackle Grant Laster (ankle) and left guard/middle linebacker Montel Jiles (shoulder) should return this week. Senior safety and two-way playmaker Blake Noakes is questionable.

Augusta at E. POINSETT COUNTY (28): EPC's defense has stiffened over a year ago, allowing just 202 yards and 10.8 ppg this fall with 12 takeaways. Senior linebacker and UA commit A.J. Turner (78 tackles, 12 TFL) is not a one-man gang. Senior DE Dray Young (team-high five sacks) terrorized Cross County last week when the EPC held Thunderbird tailback Dylan Hudson to 39 yards on 19 carries.
SALEM (21) at Walnut Ridge: No. 15 Salem quickly climbing the rankings after manhandling four opponents, the latest Cedar Ridge 49-6. Sophomore halfback J.J. Gray ran for 296 yards (14.8 ypc) last week vs. Cedar Ridge. Senior Jesse James (10 tackles) led a Salem defense that shut out Cedar Ridge for 47 minutes. Walnut Ridge (1-3) is reeling with multiple injuries, including a season-ending knee injury to junior QB Payton Poole.
McCRORY (6) at Marked Tree: When healthy, McCrory plays serious, smash-mouth football. Marked Tree smashed Augusta 48-7 last week; Cross County edged Marked Tree 38-36 and Augusta 16-14.
CEDAR RIDGE is open.

MAGAZINE (15) at Danville: See 2A Game of the Week.
Decatur at J.C. WESTSIDE (12): Pretty even on paper but Rebels playing more defense and at home.
MOUNTAINBURG (35) at Hartford: No. 18 Mountainburg has not looked back since crushing 3A neighbor Cedarville 30-0 in the opener. Mountainburg travels to Danville next week.
Western Yell at HACKETT (37): Hackett senior speedster Dylan Yazel has amassed 1,101 all-purpose yards (20 yards per touch) and nine TDs this fall.

5-2A
BIGELOW (16) at Two Rivers: Bigelow wins its third straight as junior first-year QB Austin Turner matures. Turner ran for two TDs and passed for two more last week in a 51-12 blowout of Poyen.
QUITMAN (3) at Poyen: Poyen did not score an offensive TD last week in a 39-point loss at Bigelow. Bigelow beat Quitman 43-15 Week 3.
Hector at MAGNET COVE (42): Magnet Cove vents after tough non-conference 33-28 loss to Parkers Chapel, its first loss of the season.
Mountain Pine at CONWAY CHRISTIAN (6): This is a must-win for Mountain Pine (0-4, 0-2) to stay in the playoff picture. Conway Christian junior QB Tanner Stevenson has progressed, completing 17 of 27 passes for 185 yards and two TDs and running for another score last week in a 21-6 win over Two Rivers.

Clarendon at CARLISLE (17): Carlisle unbeaten and on top of the 6-2A. Clarendon owns one win, 47-13 over winless Drew Central. Woodlawn's Blake Brown ran for 205 yards and three TDs last week in a 38-28 win over Clarendon.
ENGLAND (19) at Des Arc: Senior RB Quinton Woods (more than 600 yards) paces an England offense that averages 40 ppg.
Pal.-Wheatley at HAZEN (35): Opportunistic Hazen collected wins over DeWitt and McCrory when both played without injured quarterbacks. But no defense has slowed Hazen's explosive backfield of senior QB Devin Bonds and two-time all-state RB Matt Tenison. Tenison ran for 94 yards and two TDs and recorded 18 tackles last week in a 38-8 win over Des Arc.
Marvell at BEARDEN (42): Bearden blew open a close game last week at Strong in the third quarter with a blocked punt for a TD. Senior QB Defonta Lowe ran for 183 of Bearden's 289 yards in that 37-14 victory.

7-2A
Gurdon at MINERAL SPRINGS (4): Mineral Springs trailed Mount Ida the entire game last week before scoring with 2:45 left for a 26-20 victory. Gurdon ambushed Horatio 55-17 behind big-play scatback A.J. Brown's 40-yard TD reception and 60-yard TD run.
Dierks at SPRING HILL (11): Dierks flying high after rolling up 435 balanced yards last week in a 42-8 win over Murfreesboro. Senior RBs Kevin Aaron and Hendrix Routon running wild for 4-0 Spring Hill.
HORATIO (2) at Murfreesboro: Gurdon ambushed Horatio 55-17 last week. Murfreesboro all-everything RB Brannon Buck (ankle) returned last week against Dierks but managed just 16 yards on eight carries. A year ago, Buck ripped Dierks for 143 yards and four TDs.
MOUNT IDA (7) at Foreman: Mount Ida secures its first league win to stay in the playoff hunt. Mount Ida led Mineral Springs the entire game last week until Mineral Springs scored with 2:45 left to pull out a 26-20 win.

8-2A
Strong at JUNCTION CITY (8): No. 3 Junction City has waited a year to avenge a controversial 22-14 loss at Strong in 2010. Bearden held Strong to 124 rushing yards last week. Strong senior athlete Kenneth Dixon recorded 98 rushing and 76 receiving yards against Bearden. Class 3A No. 1 Rison gave Junction City its lone loss, 27-14 Week 1.
Marvell at BEARDEN (42): No. 4 Bearden held Strong to 208 yards last week, while Bearden senior QB Defonta Lowe ran for 183 yards and two TDs. Bearden's Markel Johnson blocked a punt early in the third quarter and Blane Word recovered it for a TD to break open a tight game and give the Bears a 23-14 lead.
Norphlet at PARKERS CHAPEL (10): Parkers Chapel bounced back from Week 3 (34-21) loss to Hampton, to upend then-No. 10 Magnet Cove 33-29 last week on the road. PC junior Phillip Hay caught a 63-yard TD pass with 50 seconds left for the victory. Norphlet stunned Hampton last week when first-year varsity player Vincent Hegler intercepted three passes and returned a kickoff 60 yards for a TD.
Woodlawn at HAMPTON (1): Woodlawn beat Clarendon 38-28 last week for its first win of the season in a mild upset. Woodlawn's Blake Brown ran for 205 yards and three TDs. Hampton upset Parkers Chapel two weeks ago but fell at Norphlet 35-24 last week when Hampton senior QB Justin Calcote completed eight of 20 passes for 132 yards with three interceptions.
