No. 3 Rison at No. 1 Junction City
Rison opened the season with a 34-30 win over Class 3A rival Fordyce, holding on after leading 34-16 early in the third quarter. Junior RB Bryson Marks paced Rison with 134 yards and a TD on 21 carries. Marks also returned a kickoff 85 yards for a TD. Senior LB Clay Morris and senior DE Sean Bass led a defense that held Fordyce to 308 total yards.
Junction City senior TB Jaqwis Dancy (4.4 speed; 1,674 yds in 2013) torched Class 3A Smackover last week with 13 carries for 193 yards. Senior QB Randall Holyfield rushed for 122 yards and completed five of nine passes for 91 yards. Junction City head coach David Carpenter owns a 7-4 series advantage vs. Rison head coach Clay Totty, but Rison leads the all-time series 14-7 over Junction City, according to Rison historian Stan Sadler..

E. POINSETT COUNTY (4) at Corning: Class 3A No. 26 Corning got past 3-2A member and rival Walnut Ridge 20-8 last week. 3-2A member and No. 5 East Poinsett County committed three first-half turnovers (two fumbles returned for TDs) but rallied past McCrory 36-32. EPC senior QB Aaron Scales (2,600 yards in 2013) completed 21 of 31 passes for 309 yards and two TDs. Senior WR Quinn Young caught nine balls for 122 yards, and junior WR Clay Malone had six receptions for 101 yards.
Cedar Ridge at RECTOR (1): Rector claims a varsity win after a four-year hiatus and gives first-year head coach David Hendrix his first victory at his alma mater.
Earle at RIVERCREST (12): Earle did not look sharp in its opening 36-16 loss at Hazen, but freshman Gerry Bohanon (6-4, 230) flashed his athletic ability with a 20-yard TD run and a 35-yard TD pass to senior Tevin Scott. Watch highlights of Earle's loss to Hazen in Week 1 here.
Cross County at ARKANSAS BAPTIST (14): No. 15 Cross County jumped Harrisburg last week, taking just four plays to score. All-3-2A junior Anfernee Davis then sacked the Harrisburg QB, forced a fumble, scooped and sprinted 43 yards for a TD. Cross County led 42-8 after one quarter. Davis also rushed 10 times for 174 yards and four TDs. Junior LB Holden Byassee (6-3, 225) led the Thunderbird defense that held Harrisburg to 202 yards and one TD. 4-4A member Arkansas Baptist had rallied past CAC last week but lost on a two-point conversion after time had expired 36-35. Arkansas Baptist four-year QB Riley Perkins completed 24 of 27 passes for 331 yards and four TDs in defeat.
Salem at YELLVILLE-SUMMIT (2): Salem dropped its opener to Class 3A Mountain View 42-24. The Greyhounds had beaten Mountain View by an average of 34 points the past years. Salem has beaten Yellville three years in a row, including 42-18.
RIVERVIEW (2) at Walnut Ridge: First meeting between the two schools. Both lost Week 1. Class 4A No. 44 Riverview lost to a solid Pocahontas team by 32 points. Class 3A No. 27 Corning dropped Walnut Ridge 20-8.
Harrisburg at MARKED TREE (15): Marked Tree held Class 3A No. 36 Piggott to 225 total yards last week. Junior end Jaylon Gunn led Marked Tree with 10 tackles and a sack, while junior LB Ramiro Rodriguez collected nine tackles and recovered a fumble. Senior TB Cameron Mitchell rushed for a game-high 145 yards. Harrisburg trailed Cross County 42-8 at the end of the first quarter last week and did not force a punt.
Midland at BARTON (36): Startup Midland's varsity debut ended in a 38-12 loss last week to 8-2A member Woodlawn.
4-2A
HECTOR (19) at Hackett: This game likely decides the 4-2A title. Hackett completed a pair of halfback passes on third down last week to spark a 21-18 victory over Class 3A Two Rivers. Senior QB Jake Walker (6-0, 185) has stabilized the Hackett backfield with sophomore RB Darrick Kellogg and junior playmaker Adriene Lasko, both with 4.6 speed. No. 8 Hector blocked five punts last week in a 52-18 win over Class 3A Marshall. Hector sophomore QB Tanner Gaines completed 16 of 21 passes for 291 yards and two TDs. Gaines ran for 65 yards and two more TDs. Senior receiver and Dover transfer Dalton Haynes caught six passes for 92 yards and a TD, sacked the QB twice and forced a fumble.
DECATUR (35) at Hartford: Decatur senior QB Victor Urquidi ran for 89 yards and a TD and passed for 119 yards and two TDs in a 36-19 loss to Class 4A Berryville. Hartford has lost eight in a row.
UNION CHRISTIAN (8) at Mountainburg: UC won this game a year ago 28-21. Only five players off Moutainburg's talented 2013 junior high team are playing varsity football this fall. UC managed just 7 yards on 13 attempts last week in a 49-14 loss to Class 3A Lavaca. Junior S Jake Phelps led UC with 13 tackles.
J.C. Westside at WESTERN YELL COUNTY (1): This game was decided by one point last year with Westside winning 16-15. Western Yell held explosive Brinkley in check in a 22-7 loss a week ago.
Magazine at QUITMAN (6): Quitman lost at Rosebud 30-25 last week, while Magazine fell 42-0 to Mount Ida. Magazine won this matchup 42-16 a year ago.

Drew Central at CUTTER M. STAR (34): Drew Central loses its 34th game in a row. Cutter Morning Star beat 5-3A member Horatio 54-26 last week.
ENGLAND (16) at Mineral Springs: England flashed the team speed and big-play ability last week at Carlisle (54-22 win) that will put it in the 5-2A title chase. England piled up 437 yards while beating Carlisle for the first time since 2005. Senior ATH Tyrik Harris took a pass 91 yards for a TD and returned a punt 48 yards for a TD. Centerpoint at MAGNET COVE (7): Centerpoint allowed more than 500 total yards last week, including 425 rushing, in a 57-31 loss at Paris. Magnet Cove ran for 209 yards last week in a 26-14 win over Parkers Chapel. Magnet Cove's slanting and stunting defense held Parkers Chapel's talented sophomore RB Dezmon Jackson to 43 yards on 11 carries.
B. Harmony Grove at CONWAY CHRISTIAN (8): Harmony Grove junior RB Jon Johnson ran 16 times for 148 yards and two TDs in last week's 21-7 win over Poyen. Junior Brinson Cornwell raced 24 yards for a score. Conway Christian lost to Episcopal Collegiate 41-0.
Bigelow at ATKINS (10): Bigelow beat 2-3A member Perryville 34-6 last week. Atkins looking to bounce back after a 51-20 loss to Dover. The Red Devils defeated Bigelow 51-20 a year ago.
BISMARCK (6) at Poyen: Bismarck beat Spring Hill 24-8 last week. Senior RB Nick Stancil ran 20 times for 235 yards and three TDs. Poyen lost to 5-3A member Benton Harmony Grove 21-7.
Mountain Pine at DIERKS (10): Dierks hands Mountain Pine its 22nd consecutive loss.
Magazine at QUITMAN (6): Quitman lost at Rosebud 30-25 last week, while Magazine fell 42-0 to Mount Ida. Magazine won this matchup 42-16 a year ago.

Clarendon at HAZEN (11): With all-state RB Trenton Mosby (ankle) sitting out the opener, Hazen still ran for 390 yards in a convincing 36-16 win over Earle. All-league RB Logan Penn ran 23 times for 182 yards and a TD, while senior Lucas Tenison carried 12 times for 88 (first half only) yards. Improved Clarendon jumped Class 4A Brookland and led by two scores early but lost 30-26. Hazen defeated Clarendon 73-0 last year. Watch highlights of Hazen's win over Earle in Week 1 here.
McCRORY (2) at Des Arc: McCrory led EPC 18-6 at halftime last week, returning two EPC fumbles for TDs, but lost 32-28 in the final minute. Junior RB Kaigen Rogo and senior RB Dylan Holiday both topped 100 yards. Class 3A Bald Knob big-played Des Arc with two 50-yard TD passes and a punt return for a TD. Des Arc senior FB Chase Hambrick ran for 105 yards and made 10 tackles. Senior RB Tyler Hill rushed 13 times for 103 yards. Sophomore DE Spencer Wrigley recorded 10 tackles.
DEWITT (10) at Carlisle: Class 4A member DeWitt hung with Class 3A and talented Episcopal last week, trailing 15-6 after three quarters. Carlisle drops 16 spots after losing (54-22) to England for the first time since 2005. England, which amassed 437 yards, held Carlisle to 173 yards. Brinkley at PAL-WHEATLEY (2): On paper, the most athletic team in the 6-2A after Hazen is Palestine-Wheatley. P-W has won consecutive 6-2A track meets. The Patriots topped newcomer 3-2A Rector 34-20 last week.
AUGUSTA (2) at Marvell: Neither team scored in opening losses to Class 3A Marianna (38-0) and Barton (42-0), respectively.

MURFREESBORO (21) at Horatio: Murfreesboro jumps to No. 14 in Class 2A after winning 36-14 at Strong. Murfreesboro senior QB Alex Kennedy completed five of 12 passes for 82 yards las week. Murfreeboro held Strong to just 72 yards.
Mountain Pine at DIERKS (10): Dierks hands Mountain Pine its 22nd consecutive loss.
Gurdon at SMACKOVER (22): Gurdon lost to Prescott 47-14 last week. Smackover senior QB Logan Clark completed 11 of 18 passes for 185 yards and a TD and ran for a score in a 33-19 loss at Junction City.
Danville at MOUNT IDA (8): Danville has lost eight straight games. Mount Ida beat Magazine 42-0 last week.
Genoa Central at LAFAYETTE COUNTY (2): Genoa Central lost to 7-2A member Foreman 33-32 last week. The Dragons have won six games since 2010, including a victory over Lafayette County two years ago. The Cougars beat Genoa Central 35-23 last year.
PARKERS CHAPEL (6) at Spring Hill: Parkers Chapel trailed Magnet Cove 13-0 early last week and pulled within a TD in the third quarter but had three fourth-quarter turnovers. Class 3A Bismarck beat Spring Hill 24-8.

FOUKE (15) at Foreman: Foreman sophomore QB Tucker Hall competed 23 of 33 passes last week for 348 yards and three TDs in a 33-32 win over 6-3A member Genoa Central. Hall's dad is Foreman's defensive coordinator, and his uncle Matt Hall played pro basketball in Europe.

Hermitage at STRONG (1): Strong rebounds from its opening 36-14 loss to Murfreesboro when it managed just 72 yards.
Hampton at BEARDEN (33): No. 2 Bearden ran for modern school record of 457 yards last week in a 31-14 win over Class 3A Camden Harmony Grove. Senior QB Jamond Young rushed 18 times for 243 yards and four TDs. Senior DeVontae Ross carried 18 times for 144 yards and a TD.
PARKERS CHAPEL (6) at Spring Hill: Parkers Chapel trailed Magnet Cove 13-0 early last week and pulled within a TD in the third quarter but had three fourth-quarter turnovers. Class 3A Bismarck beat Spring Hill 24-8.
Hamburg JV at WOODLAWN (2): Played on Monday night. Woodlawn, which improved weekly in 2013, goes to 2-0.
