HOOTENS.COM GAME OF THE WEEK
STRONG (1-0) at Woodlawn (3-1) Strong showed no signs of rust in a shutout of Dermott last week, its first game of the fall. The Bulldogs held the Rams to 48 total yards, while quarterback Kaiden McHenry led the offense with 350 yards and 5 touchdowns. Woodlawn bounced back from a Sept. 13 shutout loss with back-to-back shutout wins and led on offense by Garrett Weatherford.
WEEK 4 PREDICTIONS (favored team in ALL CAPS and highlighted)
BRINKLEY (2-1) at Dermott (1-3) Chris Williams was responsible for 6 touchdowns in the Tigers’ Sept. 20 win over Augusta and has been a key contributor for Brinkley, which has a 2-game win streak. Dermott looks to turn the corner behind the duo of Anthony Richardson and Rylan Williams.
CEDAR RIDGE (4-0) at Marvell (2-1) This matchup was scheduled last week with both teams on a bye. Cedar Ridge averages 42 points per game behind the dynamic duo of Aiden Jones and Jonas Elms, while the defense has not allowed more than 12 in a game. Marvell, which put up 54 points in its most recent game against Augusta, hopes its quarterback Terry Bledsoe and the offense can match points with Cedar Ridge on homecoming.
Marshall (2-3) at MIDLAND (3-0): Marshall fell short of pulling out back-to-back close games, dropping a low-scoring matchup to South Side Bee Branch last Friday. Meanwhile, Midland is riding as high as any squad in 8-man led by Jayce Adams, Chase Rascoe and Brayden York. Anything the Mustangs accomplish from here is adding another layer to program history.
RECTOR (1-1) at Augusta (1-3) Rector, which beat Corning twice last fall, fell to its Clay County rival last Friday, ending the Cougars’ 11-game win streak. Senior leaders Grayson Bryant and Dalton Lamar look to get the Cougars on a new win streak as they travel to play an Augusta squad that has struggled in its past 3 games since winning the season opener in the final seconds.
Southwest Christian Academy (2-2) at ROSE BUD (0-5): It has been a tough first half of the season for Rose Bud, which fell 36-0 to Subiaco Academy last week. This week the Ramblers face a Southwest Christian Academy team that also lost to Subiaco Academy, 34-14, in its season-opener.
SOUTH SIDE BEE BRANCH (3-0) vs. Guy-Perkins (0-3) (at Hendrix College): South Side keeps defying the odds as an undefeated first-year program after pulling out a low-scoring victory over Marshall. Guy-Perkins, which is also a program in its first season, is still searching for an identity.
Southwest Christian Academy (2-2) at ROSE BUD (0-5) It has been a tough first half of the season for the Ramblers, who were shutout by Subiaco Academy last week, but their luck has a strong chance of turning this week at home against Southwest Christian Academy.
Subiaco Academy (3-2) at CORNING (4-1): Corning rebounded from its first loss with a win over Clay County foe Rector with Seth Smith leading the way. Smith compiled 200 offensive yards, while 3 defensive players logged at least 10 tackles. Subiaco Academy broke a 2-game losing streak against Rose Bud behind five combined scores from John Crank and Landon Koch.
