HOOTENS.COM GAME OF THE WEEK
Corning (4-2, 2-0) at MOUNTAIN VIEW (5-0, 1-0): Both teams sport punishing running games and tenacious defenses.
Mountain View, coming off a 54-12 win over Rose Bud, looks to extend its winning streak to 16. Ladd Cook returned the opening kick for a TD for Mountain View, and the rout was on. Linebackers Maverik Woods and Rush Sullivan led the Yellowjackets defense. Woods notched 17 tackles against Izard County. Corning beat Cedar Ridge 54-6. Junior Payton Cartright scored a defensive touchdown.
WEEK 6 PREDICTIONS (favored team in ALL CAPS and highlighted)
Brinkley (3-2, 1-0) at RECTOR (4-0, 1-0): Rector beat Izard County Consolidated 56-16 behind the strong running of Carter Hill and Drew Henderson. Brinkley got past Augusta 32-22. Jeremiah Harris leads Brinkley in rushing.
Augusta (1-2, 0-1) at IZARD COUNTY (3-3, 1-1): Augusta continues to improve weekly, while Izard County is learning to play with the target on its back. ICC, the defending Sanctioned champion, must win out to maintain its No. 2 seed and host a playoff game.
SUBIACO ACADEMY (5-1, 2-0) at Rose Bud (0-5, 0-2): The Subiaco Trojans busted the Parkers Chapel defense for 401 yards rushing in a 52-28 win. Brody Koch led the Trojans with 196 yards, 2 TDs, and 16 tackles on defense. Rose Bud looks to rally after getting a taste of Mountain View’s potent rushing attack.
GENOA CENTRAL (3-1, 2-0) at Cutter Morning Star (3-2, 0-1): Genoa Central RB Caleb McClure rushed for 250 yards and 3 TDs in his team's 44-20 win over Fountain Lake. Cutter Morning Star outlasted Marshall 60-44 last week.
WOODLAWN (2-2, 0-1) at Hermitage (0-4, 0-2) Woodlawn looks to bounce back after falling to Strong week 5. Hermitage, seeking its first victory since 2021, has forfeited its last 2 scheduled games against Spring Hill and Mountain Pine.
SPRING HILL (5-2, 2-0) at Mountain Pine (3-1, 2-0): Spring Hill steamrolled Dermott 46-0, rushing for 404 yards. Mountain Pine was awarded a forfeit victory last Friday over Hermitage after beating Marvell 64-28 in Week 4.
STRONG (3-0, 2-0) at Marvell (0-1) Strong QB Kaiden McHenry-Jones accounted for 407 yards and 5 TDs last week against Woodlawn, and the Bulldogs should roll over Marvell.
Cedar Ridge (2-3) at MARSHALL (1-4, 0-1): Marshall went punch for punch with Cutter Morning Star last Friday, but special teams allowed 2 TDs, which proved to be the difference. Senior QB Canaan Horton accounted for 267 yards and 4 TDs against the Eagles while senior Daniel Griffin added a kickoff return for a TD. Cedar Ridge fell to Corning 54-6 last week.
