HOOTENS.COM GAME OF THE WEEK
No. 1 Bearden at No. 7 Junction City
Bearden won at Junction City 14-12 in the regular season last year to claim the 8-2A title. Two months later, Junction City beat Bearden 24-14 to repeat as Class 2A state champion.

Bearden opened 2010 by losing five fumbles in a 34-14 loss to 3A Camden Harmony Grove. A week later, a fumble at the 8-yard line set up Woodlawn for a TD, but Bearden won 21-18. The past two weeks, Bearden has scored on every possession, hammering Hermitage and Strong by a combined 121-6. Junior QB Defonta Lowe ran 18 times for 134 yards and two touchdowns and passed for two more TDs against Strong. Bearden has cut down on turnovers and two-way players. The Bears, including senior RB Rashad Beets, should be healthy this week.

Fired-up Strong upset Junction City 22-14 last week, defeating the Dragons for the fist time since 1996. Penalties, turnovers and big plays by Strong QB Kenneth Dixon proved too much for Junction City to overcome. Senior RB Rodney Larry paces Junction City with 478 yards, followed by junior Bronte Elliott (335 yards) and sophomore Romunskee Flowers (316 yards). Junction City has lost 10 turnovers while its defense has forced nine turnovers. Junction City allows 160 yards and 14 ppg.

WEEK 6 PREDICTIONS (favored team in ALL CAPS followed by point spread)
3-2A
Marked Tree at WALNUT RIDGE (1): Walnut Ridge sophomore QB Payton Poole accounted for 323 of the Bobcats' 458 yards last week in a 45-26 win at Salem. Marked Tree almost ruined McCrory's homecoming last week before losing 30-26. Junior RB Thadious Moore rushed for 185 yards and two TDs, while sophomore Darius Ivy ran for 85 yards and a score.
MCCRORY (6) at Cedar Ridge: McCrory survived Marked Tree last week (30-26) when QB Collin Campbell completed 11 of 18 passes for four TDs, including two TD tosses in the final six minutes. Cedar Ridge was open last week after shutting out Salem 16-0 Week 4.
Salem at CROSS COUNTY (12): Cross County, idle last week, remains the only team to beat Class 3A Harrisburg this fall.
Augusta at MAGNET COVE (1): No. 3 Magnet Cove chases an undefeated regular season, and No. 15 Augusta may offer the biggest obstacle so far. Augusta senior RB Ishma Clark eclipsed 1,000 yards for the season with 327 yards and four TDs last week in a 67-44 win over EPC.
Hooten's will have highlights 11 a.m. Saturday on Fox 16.
E. POINSETT COUNTY is open.

4-2A
DANVILLE (2) at Mountainburg: Danville lost at Magazine 28-24 last week in a 4-2A showdown marred by numerous penalties and turnovers. Neither team scored in the second half. Mountainburg's defense has allowed three TDs this year. Junior LB Garth Webster and senior LB Tanner Wimberly lead the Dragons in tackles, while senior DE Alexander Balandran has a team-high seven sacks. "Danville has so many athletes," Mountainburg coach Tom Harrell says. "You've got to play honest and sound. You cannot double-team or load up on one side."
HACKETT (3) at Union Christian: No. 34 Union Christian had two weeks to prepare for Hackett, winner of two in a row. UC beat Hackett 6-0 last year.
Hartford at J.C. WESTSIDE (22): Rebels make it two straight, stay in playoff picture.
MAGAZINE (42) at Western Yell: No. 4 Magazine fresh off 28-24 victory over No. 5 Danville. Junior QB Ryan Chambers passed for four TDs last week, including three TDs to twin Cory Chambers.

Hector at QUITMAN (6): Quitman vying for the fifth and final playoff berth in the 5-2A.
Augusta at MAGNET COVE (1): No. 3 Magnet Cove chases an undefeated regular season, and No. 15 Augusta may offer the biggest obstacle so far. Augusta all-state senior RB Ishma Clark (4.5 speed) eclipsed 1,000 yards for the season last week with 327 yards and four TDs in a 67-44 win over EPC. Hooten's will have highlights 11 a.m. Saturday on Fox 16.

6-2A
CLARENDON (35) at Marvell: Clarendon trying to secure the league's No. 4 playoff seed because the fifth seed travels to the 7-2A winner, likely No. 2 Spring Hill, in the first round of the playoffs.
England at CARLISLE (10): This is where Carlisle's tough non-conference schedule (4A Riverview, 3A Bauxite and 3A Barton) begins to pay off. Carlisle lost to both Hazen and Des Arc in overtime last year. Carlisle exploded for 52 points last week over Clarendon. England much improved in its second season under Coach Brandon Barbaree.
Hooten's will have highlights 11 a.m. Saturday on Fox 16.
Hughes at HAZEN (37): Hughes owns a 34-game losing streak and it does not end here. Defending 6-2 champion Hazen dropped its first of four big games two weeks ago by losing to Des Arc 13-12. Hazen travels to Clarendon, England and Carlisle down the stretch.
Pal.-Wheatley at DES ARC (32): No. 8 Des Arc in position to again play for the league title after winning it in 2008 and finishing second in 2009.

Mount Ida at SPRING HILL (14): Mount Ida improving weekly and led No. 12 Mineral Spring Week 4 before losing 40-28.
